The Dimensions of Black Art exhibit was beautiful but if you are Black do not come here, you will be uncomfortable. Security followed my friends and I (3 Black women) the entire time we were at the exhibit (an entire hour) even though there were other parrons present viewing art work. We confronted the front desk and the "manager " just defended security and told my friends and I we were being irrational and taking things out of context. The "manager" said he was just making rounds but the security guard stood across from us and watched us talk to the "manager " about our experience so we were confused on how he was making rounds if he stood there watching us with other patrons in the exhibit freely admiring art. The security guard was clearly racial profiling us and the manager sucks at customer service because he didnt even acknowledge that we were uncomfortable he just said "fill out a comment card" and blew us off. We will not be returning.

Another museum in the San Diego area besides the major the ones located in Balboa Park. But unlike the Art Museum in Balboa Park, this one is just strictly contemporary art.The building itself is beautiful and there are some lovely arched windows which only enhance the experience. Overall a great place to chill for about 30 min - 2 hours depending on how long you like to look at art. Also the staff was very kind and helpful which again, is hard to come by in museums. MCASD is great in general, but the down side is the lack of available parking. Because it is located in downtown, there is no free parking and you just have to get lucky with the street parking. ****

There is a creepy guard there who stalks patrons through the museum. The only possibilities I could think of was that he was stalking my young nephew for whatever vile reason he might have, he is racist (were all various mixed races), he is sexist (we are all male), or he is ageist (we all appear younger than him). I loved the exhibits, and the museum staff were generally okay (a few came off as a bit snobbish), but everything was tolerable except for that guard.

The guard followed us the ENTIRE time. He said not one word to us but went to every area in every room we were in. There were other guests in the museum but he continued to follow us around. The manager did absolutely nothing but expressed how we are overreacting and made uninterested/disrespectful facial expressions the entire time we expressed our concerns.

I have only been to one exhibition in my 5 years of living in san diego that was good. Not a fan of the programs. The staff is always excellent and I like their gift shop, the building is gorgeous, the location cant be beat but the art.....not so much.

(Updated) They closed for their multi-expansion project from Jan 3,2017. --------------------------------------------------------- Amazing place. There are some events every month. So check it out before going there.

We browsed through collections of photos with placards that gave good context to them. The boys enjoyed going through the stories and looking at the pictures. The garden outside was also beautiful

Like most contemporary art this place can be hit or miss. Its also a little pricy for what you get. However, they put on some really good music and film events. The museum cafe is also a must try.

This place is great ... really interesting. Especially if youre not an art fanatic. Plus its free if youre under 25. My only issue with this place is that I wish it stayed open a little later.

Offers free admission to UCSD students. Not really part of the art, but the back room of the museum has a super beautiful view of La Jolla. Watching sunsets here is just breathtaking.

This place is an awesome stop if youre in downtown La Jolla. Bonus if youre a student and free entry for youth under 25! The views from the deck are also quite amazing.

We hosted a special event here for clients. The A/V guy (young dude) was a rock star. Super proactive and helpful.

Vast open space for the display of "art". They had a red string on a wall corner and called it art. OK then.

I enjoyed it, but the free student admission was a big part of that. Not sure if it was worth $10 otherwise.
