The park is named for Kate Sessions, a San Diego schoolteacher, horticulturalist and chief landscape designer of world-famous Balboa Park. Its 79 acres has a great view of the city from atop Lamont St. between PB and La Jolla. Kids love the open grass areas and the play ground equipment. Families use the barbecue pits, picnic tables and enjoy the beautiful water fountains. You can see Mission Beach and Fiesta Island with downtown views on the clearest days. Katherine Sessions (1857-1940) started a commercial nursery in 1885 on Coronado. In 1892 she made a deal with the city of San Diego to plant 100 trees a year in Balboa Park, in exchange for 30 acres to use as a nursery. She did a great job and we have her to thank for importing and popularizing the jacaranda, now enjoyed by everyone in San Diego. Thanks Kate!

This is actually my favorite spot in San Diego. It has the best view of the bay, it actually has trees, so If youre from somewhere with more green like I am, then youll love it. Also if youre a dog lover, this is a great place for you because there are tons of dogs playing and running and doing tricks, so if you have a dog they can join the fun, or if you just like watching dogs, youll be in heaven. This is a great park for a romantic, or even just fun, picnic, which is what I usually do when I go there. Hands down my favorite spot in all of San Diego.

Very small but special park. The park is named after Kate Sessions who is the one person that influenced the beauty of San Diego as she brought in trees from all over the world. Thank you Kate. The park is gently slopped toward the coast with beautiful views of Pacific Beach and the ocean. Favorite of many locals to walk their beautiful pampered La Jolla doggies. Also a great place to picnic or chill on the green well cared for lawn. Very small but very enjoyable!

Beautiful park with some of the best views of the coast in San Diego! Large grass area a top a hill with picnic tables and benches for a relaxing afternoon or watching the sunset. Youll get great views of downtown San Diego, mission bay, point loma, piers and the coastline. Well worth it for anyone to make a visit here to relax or take some photos.

Secluded park with beautiful views of mission Bay and San Diego. Lots of people with dogs (off their leashes) despite numerous signs that require leashes. We were even informed by a local that animal control randomly shows up several times a week to issue fines... Still, amazing park with tables and wide open space. Just leash your dog.

What a gorgeous park! It is literally huge and boasts an incredible view of Mission Bay, Fiesta Island, Mission Beach and downtown. With plenty of trees to go around, there is enough shade to enjoy this space on even the hottest days. Its dog friendly, has a parking lot and concrete picnic tables.

Awesome view of ocean and bay areas. Great for picnics, relaxing under the tree with a book or just walk around. I wish I had brought my dog when we visited. Everyone had their dogs off leash (its not gated) and the dogs just looked like they were all having a blast.

Great little neighborhood park. Technically dogs arent supposed to be left off-leash at the park, but dogs are frequently playing off-leash. Its not a problem though. All the dog owners seem to be responsible and keep an eye on their pets while having fun.

42 years ago my (now wife of almost 40 years) and I had our first date at Kate Sessions Park. Unfortunately, we have not been back sense. I will take her there on our 40 year anniversary at the end of this year. This is a special place.

Wonderful park ruined by selfish dog owners. DOGS MUST BE KEPT ON LEASH AT ALL TIMES and you ARE REQUIRED TO CLEAN AFTER YOUR DOG. It seemed I was the only dog owner with her dog on a leash and a poop-bag. Where is law enforcement?

Meh. Nice views and all, but everyone built this up as an amazing experience when indeed its cool, but not that noteworthy. Stop by a sweet take-out spot and come sit while you eat amazing food. Then, its totally worth the trip.

Some of the best views in San Diego. Unfortunately self entitled dog owners treat it like a off leash park. Feel free to call the posted numbers and report them to animals control to keep the park safe and clean for everyone.

Came to watch fireworks for the 4th of July. View was sweet and could see multiple shows at the time. Park was crowded and leaving in a car looked terrible. We parked on Garnet and walked (10 minutes) to avoid traffic

The perfect park!! This grassy knoll has a beautiful view, plenty of space for all, trees with shade, and a nearby restroom. Remember Kate O. Sessions when thinking of a cute location for your next date or picnic.

Beautiful park with the most amazing panoramic views from the east to the west. Plenty of parking, lots of grass and dog friendly. Park at the top of the park if you want to walk down through a canyon. Very nice

Great park to relax. It has a nice view. It has multiple areas (place for the kids, flat area for sports, walking loop, hilly area with the view) to appeal to different people, restrooms and lots of parking

The nicest park Ive been to in San Diego. Hidden gem up in the hills of La Jolla. Beautiful views of mission bay, the ocean, and of downtown. The park is large but fairly steep so not a lot of flat ground.

visited this park for the first time for a wedding. Great views of Mission Beach, Ocean Beach and the Downtown Skyline. Looks like there are some hiking/mountain bike trails to enjoy as well.

The most unparalleled park for sunsets, picnics, weddings, date nights, fetch, kids soccer, meditation and inspiring views in the city. Go here if you ever need an instant pick-me-up.

This park is beautiful. There is a great grassy hill and open spaces to play. The hillside overlooks Mission Bay. You can see the beaches, downtown, and even the Coronado bridge.

This is my favorite park in San Diego, the view just cant be beat. Its not technically a dog park, so if you have your dog off leash be careful! But its gorgeous either way.

Hung out at the giant hill with a great view and a lot of dogs. Such a beautiful area to hang out with or without a dog and check out the beautiful San Diego view.

Beautifully maintained park, great view of PB and the bay from up on the mountain. Dogs often run around this park freely and plenty of space for other activities.

Terrific view, lush lawn, great dogs. I watched a policeman walk up to a woman, playing ball with her dog, to give a ticket for not having her dog on a leash.
