Muir woods too far for you? Never fear for the majestic redwood trees reside here also!!! Its actually decently size too! Its a rather amazing place to go and get away from the city! Now to get there, there are multiple entrances and multiple trails to get here. As you are driving up north, you will see parking lots every couple or so miles. The redwood forest easily envelops you into a beautiful get away. There are camp sites here and sometimes the trails can become confusing as they start blending in with the surrounding area. Bring some water although for most of the trail, you will be in shade so it is not too terrible. I like this redwood forest and kinda prefer it because you dont really pay anything unlike muir woods where its about $10 per person. Be careful for poison ivy/oak!!! Dont get attached to this place too much unless you want to look for pete the dragon

My 2nd time hiking here but first time doing it in the Spring. Completed the full loop of 8.7 miles through the below trails: - West Ridge Trail (starting at Chabot science center) - East Ridge Trail - Canyon Trail - West Ridge - Golden Spike Trail - Montiero Trail - Baccharis Trail - West Ridge Trail (ending at Chabot science center) Ive realised Redwood is really good but its not great, mainly because the views are limited especially if you compare it with other parks like Tilden that offers great trails paired with breathtaking views. But its still a great spot thats nearby. 1st time we explored: - Dunnn Trail from Serpentine Prairie - West Ridge trail - Bridle trail - Stream trail - Fern Trail -West ridge -Dunn trail end at serpentine prairie

Redwoods in the east bay! This park is easy to overlook compared to places like Big Basin, but its much more convenient to get to, and still some great hiking. Its very dog friendly, people are allowed to unleash their dogs if they are responsive to voice commands and Im always amazed at how well behaved the dogs are. In the winter there is an area that is literally crawling with ladybugs, look for the signs warning you not to step on the ladybugs, last time we were here there were a dozen or more ladybugs right on the sign! Besides the ladybugs, my favorite part of the hike is stream trail, in the winter it feels like a magical place.

10/9/14 From this park on Redwood Rd in Oakland, to Willow Park Golf Course on Redwood Rd in Castro Valley, East Bay Regional Parks District looks after the operations of a lot of our East Bay lands. Redwood Regional Park has a lot of pretty walking areas. We explored this place with a friend who was visiting from Houston. We paid to park in the lot and were surprised there was only one or two other cars parked near us. There is a public restroom (and even a pay phone, since cell service is pretty spotty.) We didnt walk far but found some pretty spots for pictures and enjoyed seeing the pretty trees and trails.

Enjoyed this park. Being able to see Redwoods in my backyard is a big plus. It has a number of trails of different lengths and difficulties including a loop that can be done in an hour that takes you over hills, down in redwood shaded creekbeds etc. Also most times Ive been it hasnt been super busy. Theres a great bench right near the end of the hike that overlooks the hills and sits on a little hilltop in the sun. What a great touch.

This place is amazing! The amount of nature you can get is undeniable especially its so close to the city of Oakland. The place looks big on the map, however the routes are actually pretty short and with 4 hours of hiking, you can probably walk around the entire park. I strongly suggest you come in early in the morning as the traffic gets bad towards noon even during the weekend.

The trees cancel out the noise of the city, and you can be in cool dark quiet without going to far. We took the Sequoia and Wild Rose trails, and I recommend the experience to all Nature lovers or anyone looking to leave the city behind for just a few moments. A little busier than ideal, and also seemed popular with joggers and trail bikers, though we only saw a handful.

My lord this has got to be one of the most well kept parks I have ever been too! Beautiful trails with plenty of picnic areas and bathrooms. There are not many maps on site to keep you updated on your progress, so grab one for the entrance booth or have one on hand! Parking inside the park grounds is $5 per car, but lots of people park just off the major road.

Such a serene park tucked randomly in the middle of the east bay. You wouldnt even know you were right next to such huge metropolitan areas if it werent for the occasional plane flying high above. Perfect for a relaxing or moderate level hike and you could easily spend a half day here exploring some different trails. Dog friendly too. Will be back here soon.

Love this park, and will come back again with my friends. Parking is $5, or you can park outside "on Street" for free. Trail closed to entrance is paved, There is a creek next to the trail, make hiking a little more comfortable, tall red wood trees make the trail not that sunny. Bathroom, drinking fountain, BBQ tables can be seen in the park.

Beautiful park that you should see if youre visiting SFO. It will save you the trip of driving up north. I went to the main entrance on redwood road (had free parking the day I went - Thursday), a lot of parking, restrooms, etc. You have to go deeper into the forest to see more of the woods as opposed to the one by the stream.

Beats the pants off of Muir Woods. Avoid the crowds, parking, and the cost. The best part of Oakland...hands down. Peace and quiet within the streets of the greatest city on earth. Skyline Trail is highly recommended, however the moonrise over the entire United States is well worth the planning and timing!

I Love this park! Its so quiet, pretty, and chill. Ive trail run a lot in here, taken visitors for basic or more challenging hikes, and also its a great place to bring dogs. If you go early in the day like before 10am you have the place mostly to yourself and may even see dear or small rabbits.

This is a great hiking and picnic spot right in our midst, and yes there are lots of redwoods. Be prepared for climbing if you take trails outside of the center of the valley. Poison oak can be a problem if you wander off the trails, so make sure everyone knows what it looks like.

Great park with a good number of trails for hiking and biking. There best part is that the trails are all at least partially shaded. Be aware, while dogs are certainly permitted on the trails, there are a lot of those spiky seeds that can easily get caught on your dogs fur.

Beautiful redwood forest with expansive and well-maintained trails. There are sunny, easy trails for biking and dog walking. Or you have the option to go down into the dank depths for mossy, mushroom adventures. Love it and will be a long-time visitor.

Good all year long, many trails from scenic to strenuous, short loops to all day hikes. Extraordinary forethought from the founders of EBRP, and the voters for supporting continued maintenance and expansion of this natural resource in our back yard!
