Woodminster is the ultimate theater experience for those who like professional quality musical theater in a unique, historic outdoor amphitheater and for affordable prices. For those not in the know, the amphitheater was built by the WPA in the 1930s, is in the Oakland hills and affords a great view of the Bay. The parking is good and concessions offer delicious snacks. The theater has been upgraded with comfortable seats and nice restrooms. Picnic tables are provided for before performance dining. The current play, previewed last night, was a sleeper for me - Legally Blond. I didnt know it but was delighted to find it was fun, witty, had good songs &, as with all Woodminster shows, incomparable choreography. This theater is truly a Bay Area gem!

This is a gem of history in the Oakland hills. Joaquin Miller was a friend of John Muir and was pivotal in founding our East Bay Parks District, one of the oldest in the country and an inspiration to Teddy Roosevelt in creating the National Parks. This park contains the Bay Areas only second growth redwoods left. Filled with trails that weave through the forest that also provide sweeping views of the bay that one could explore for years, this park also plays host to an annual gathering of ladybugs. Thousands of these insects gather to keep warm during the fall and winter months in the upper part of the park. Considering the wildlife and the location this is also a photographers paradise.

Loved downhill biking here. I used to do a lot of shuttling with friends. Cinderella and Chaparral were the trails we rode most. Cinderella is fun and flowy with some small jumps and a nice rock garden. I wasnt quite good enough to enjoy Chaparral the time I rode it... I remember it being all railroad ties and being totally clenched the whole ride down. If youre hiking... Listen for bikes! If youre riding either of those trails or he West Ridge trail in Redwood, its probably wise to avoid hiking with headphones in.

This park has very nice trails and is great for new trail runners, not too much elevation gain and trails arent too technical. Downsides: lots of smashed windows, make sure NOTHING that looks even remotely valuable is visible; also, lots of foot traffic and most hikers Ive met are none too friendly. They refuse to move aside, forcing runners and bikers to almost fall off a cliff to avoid them. Nice views and beautiful redwoods make it worth it though!

JMP is my all time favourite. It has flow as well as steep gnarly rock gardens. The pedaling section is not crazy either, so you can hit the trails a couple times before calling it a day. Even in rainy days the trail is not that muddy, thats a big plus considering what I experienced on other tails in Bay Area to name a few Crockett and Tamarancho. It has everything for a beginner to an intermediate rider. Cant wait to ride it again tomorrow lol

Joaquin Miller Park is my go-to spot for a hike. You can get lost in there for hours, or bang out a quick hike and run. The view of the Bay is the best at the near end of the Sunset trail. The cascade stairs are a great place to work out, and if you park on the street and walk up the stairs, it is a great way to warm up. Its a good place to have a picnic, and the plays at Woodminster Amphitheater, attached to the park, are pretty awesome.

With beautiful views, walking trails everywhere, and animals, its easy to let your guard down and waltz wherever you please. Beware of the poison oak! Theres a ton of it on the trails, poking into the pathway and even growing on it, educate yourself and what it looks like and dont touch it. If you do, wash with soapy water ASAP, including all your clothes, shoes, shoe laces, anything that may have touched the plant.

Great place to hike with your dogs Lots of nice shady trails, not very crowded at all on weekdays, but does warm up on summer days if you get out to late. Watch out for the occasional bikers on the turns. I hike a lot of different places in the east bay and this is one of my favorites. A pretty good dog park here too if you dont like to hike. Dont forget water for your dogs.

Joaquin Miller is our go to park for taking our pitbull to the dog park or for a hike. The dog park has a large dog and small dog pen - really friendly regulars -- lots of space and water, surrounded by trees. You can choose to take a short hike or a long hike in a nice forested area - see some quirky monuments, nice picnic areas, and excellent outlook views of Oakland.

This park has a lot of hiking trails that are great for trail running. Most of them are compact dirt roads without too many roots or rocks to watch out for. The signs can be a little confusing but youll find that most of them intersect with each other and youll eventually end up where you began. Theres also a beautiful view of the bay that you can also drive up to.

The boyfriend and I would go workout on the stairs. Best workout ever! It is a popular spot for families, tourists and owners of pets. There is a playground and a dog park nearby. There are numerous short trails in the park. Should definitely check those out. Makes you feel like youre not in Oakland. People also go mountain biking on the trials.

Went to my sons graduation at the amphitheater from EBIA. The venue was spectacular. In the Oakland hills the sun shinning on the crowd. The acoustics were excellent. Parking wasnt adequate. The stairs from street parking were step and long not suggested if you can avoid them. That would be my only complaint

A large park with lots to do. There are a lot of trails to go on walks and various grassy areas for picnics. Beautiful wildlife and in the summer they have goats roaming around eating the grass. Sometimes people can be loud in the popular areas and it can be hard to park but everything else is well worth it.

A nice park near Oakland to enjoy trails with your four-legged friends. The park is dotted with playgrounds and cool features - reflecting pool, theater, horse pen. Lots of trails, not overwhelming and well-maintained. Can get a little gooey when it rains so dont wear shoes you want to keep clean.

Im a portrait/headshot photographer and only recently learned about Joaquin Miller Park from a client who suggested it as a location for photographs. I have yet to explore much of the park, but what Ive seen so far is lovely. Its rather quiet and peaceful and not overrun with a lot of people.

“Great hiking!” This is a great place for dog walking, since parking is usually free and they dont charge for dogs. They also have a fenced dog park that separates big dogs and little dogs. The cascades are beautiful, even when theyre turned off and there are some great views of the city

Wow, this park is huge and with plenty of trails! I was hiking for about 2.5 hours until I realized I had hit the edge and just used my gps to find my way back (Im not really the most directionally inclined...) Breathtaking views! Plenty of free street parking.

Enjoy beautiful views of the bay while breathing the delicious air under a Redwood forest. Lots of trails for everyone. Please be careful with those downhill bikers, they are fast and silent, and some of them dont care about other people.
