What can I say that hasnt been said of Los Angeles beloved Hollywood Bowl? Easily on top of everyones "Favorite Music Venue" list. Hollywood Bowl is crackin during the summer time when they host their amazing musical program for all kinds of music lovers. This is one of the places that everyone who resides in the city needs to experience at least once and need to bring their visiting family members and friends to when asked to be a tour guide. Seats of all kinds are offered at varying prices for people who are either on a budget or have no budget. You can save yourself the hassle of waiting in line for food and drinks by bringing your own in coolers or tote bags. But there is one thing to be aware of. There are two kinds of events that happen - LEASED and NON-LEASED concerts. If its a LEASED event, that means a separate vendor has leased the venue for their own event. This means they usually dont allow you to bring your own glass, cans or alcohol. They are trying to make money inside the venue by encouraging you to BUY the alcohol offered. NON-LEASED just means that its part of the Hollywood Bowls program, therefore, you can bring glass, cans and alcohol. Getting to the venue is also a challenge but with many options to choose from to make it easy on yourself. My personal tip is to NOT drive and park at the venue or near it. Its easier to find shuttle information on how to get there. There are MANY locations that offer shuttle services to Hollywood Bowl so you dont have to deal with parking and the traffic. Easier to understand and find on their website than including it in here. Go forth and enjoy!!

If you can afford to purchase tickets at the floor level, this venue is top-notch. For those of us living on a budget, were forced to sit at a distance that is much further from the stage than a real music fan would care to be. Unfortunately, the seating for cheaper tickets means you are forced to sit on a rickety wooden bench with almost zero back support. Although I prefer to stand during most concerts, this venue does not lend itself well to doing so since people behind you may opt to sit for the duration of the show. I dont want to be perceived as the insensitive concert-goer by standing directly in front of the seated patrons behind me (Im 64"). And the parking is horrendous! If you need to leave early, you better have parked in a paid lot because the parking Hollywood Bowl offers is stacked parking, which means your car is stuck until everyone has left the show. Ive seen Vampire Weekend, The Shins, and Belle and Sebastian at The Hollywood Bowl. Im sure they all had great shows, but I wouldnt know because I failed to bring my binoculars. This venue has a rich history and has seen thousands of legendary musicians grace its stage. Unfortunately, this is not enough to bring me back. Since I prefer to actually see the performers on stage, coupled with my ability to only afford the cheap seats, I will NOT be returning to the Hollywood Bowl. If they ever offer GA tickets, Ill be the first in line.

My very first trip to the Hollywood Bowl on September 20th for the Sound of Music Sing Along! I had won my tickets from TCM and was very excited to go, we drove up from San Diego - traffic was a problem on the way there, but not on the way back. What a great venue! - the sound system was fantastic and there were so many people - they said about 16,000 for the event. I thought the staff was great and it was a lot of fun. One drawback and disappointment is that their bathrooms are unacceptably inadequate for the amount of people that they can pack into that place. Lines were extremely long and then you get to the ladies room and there are only 3 stalls!!! NOT GOOD. That was the CLOSE restroom, the one further away from the venue was up a very steep hill and the line was twice as long during intermission. So 4 stars just for that reason. If they improve the restrooms, they would get 5 from me! One tip - PACK A PICNIC SUPPER! The food choices are ok, but limited and of course costly as you would expect from a tourist venue. Parking was a bit strange, stacked , cost at $17 - $30 depending on how close you wanted to be and you have to wait for a bit when you leave, but if you go to the restrooms before you leave, as we did, the wait is done there and by the time you get done, you can easily exit parking.

I have had amazing concert experiences at the Hollywood Bowl, but there are two recurring sound problems to which the Bowl seems to be oblivious: 1) If one is sitting in the F sections, there is a constant noise disturbance from the giant air conditioners in the nearby building. Of course, if the music is LOUD, you cannot detect the added noise, but when the music is SOFT, the air conditioners cause a constant roar that drowns out the soft speech or music. The closer you sit to the F section entrance, the louder the sound. Recently, at the Prairie Home Companion Show, our group was so frustrated with this noise, I got up and requested that Bowl staff turn OFF the air conditioners. They succeeded in doing so, and then the sound in section F was FINALLY clear ...at the high quality I expect at the Bowl. Shame on the Hollywood Bowl for cheating so many audience members of the fine quality sound they pay to hear -- and should be able to expect! TURN OFF THE AIR CONDITIONERS TO YOUR OFFICES DURING THE SHOW! 2) Three times the speakers have been OFF in the upper regions of the bowl. Having been to concerts where the speakers up there are definitely ON, I am sure they were OFF those occasions. Twice the speakers suddenly went ON the second half of the concert, but in the case of REM (2009?), they never kicked on.

My girlfriend and I went to see Bon Iver here the other night. The show was amazing and the open-air venue is awesome despite the light sprinkling during the beginning of his performance. It was my first time at the Bowl, but my girlfriend has been multiple times in the past. The one thing we were disappointed by were the rules against bringing any alcohol or glass into the event. Which meant that we stayed outside the gates to finish the bottle of wine and the 22 oz. beer we brought and, unfortunately, missed the openers for the show. Having been to other concerts here before, my girlfriend had told me multiple times that we could bring glass containers AND alcohol into the venue (I even confirmed this on the website). So I am not sure if there was a special rule for this show or what, but it made the night a bit more difficult, logistically, as we also had to check the water bottle and mason jars we brought at a customer service tent because they were made of glass. Side note: we also missed part of the opening performance because the ticketing system was not scanning cards correctly and we had to wait in a customer service line to re-scan. So, overall, we still had a great night, but I was bummed we missed part of the show because of this change.
