My wife and I recently got addicted to skating, and having been to both The Rink (closer to home,) Foothill Skate Inn (closer to school,) and Sunrise Rollerland, Sunrise is the best, hands down. Better, cleaner floor + better rental skates + more arcade games + better snacks and pizza + great (why Medieval though?) decor. Being across the street from the Mall is great too.
Their lighting is a bit dated but I dont skate for the lights. There are at least a few of the newer disco lights for lots of colorful dance-skating, but it doesnt get so dark things get dangerous. Their sound system is a big bonus though. At The Rink, it can be hard to hear the DJ because their speakers arent calibrated or something, he sounds like hes underwater. At Sunrise, the sound system is crisp and clear and the DJ is easily understood anywhere in the place.
Yesterday we visited during the Friday Afternoon session, skate rental was included in the admission for $4.50. They even put our shoes on the skate rack so we didnt have to pay for a locker, which is a plus. Both of the other rinks weve visited nearby had older skates, often with maintenance problems. Sunrise has fancy Reidell boots and they clearly take very good care of them.
They did several fun activities besides the regular all skate. These included the Cha-cha Slide (dance skate) Red/Green Light, Reverse Skate (clockwise instead of counterclockwise) and the Friendship/Slow song at the end. Some of the better skaters got out for the dance and were amazing to watch.
The wife signed up for their "Million Mile Skate" program running right now, if she skates four sessions she gets one free. Combined with their midweek adults-only morning sessions (10am-12pm, Tues & Thurs) its a great deal. No other rink weve found has daytime sessions during the week. Makes it possible for her to skate while the kid and I are in school.
I dont know how the reviewer below can prefer The Rink (formerly Kings) over Sunrise, even considering the unfortunate accident. The people who skated over her probably didnt have any better control than her, good skaters would rather not hurt someone. Anway, Ill gladly skate at The Rink when its convenient, but given the choice between the two, Id pick Sunrise.

Its sad that I have to leave a bad review for the place I loved so much as a child; but man, I hope my mom never had to deal with the ridiculously bad customer service this place hands out. I love roller skating, so once Im into the place Im fine with the rink, but its getting in that is the actual trouble. I have free admission tickets, I still have to pay for everything inside but Im supposed to be able to get in for free. Ive had these tickets for 2 years now because I can never use them when I finally have the opportunity to take my kids skating. Its either not a regular session or, as in my last attempt which was the one that really cemented how much this place bugs me, the place is closed to the public for a special session during a PUBLIC session time with no posting of it on their website or even the building itself. The girl at the front window could only say "it should be on the front page of the website." Well guess what, honey, it wasnt, and Im pretty sure you knew it wasnt; in fact, I knew you knew it wasnt when you said it. I should have called your bluff right then and there and brought up the site with NO NOTIFICATION OF THE RINK BEING CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC DURING A PUBLIC SKATING SESSION ACCORDING TO THE WEBSITES CALENDAR!! But what would that do? Its not like I could force you to replace my gas wasted driving there or to pay for the ice cream I would need to buy to cheer up my devastated kids. Its not like I could demand free vouchers, I mean, I could, but I already have 4 that I cant even use because the rink never accepts them. So as I walked back to my car with my incredibly upset children and with zero apologies from the establishment and I had to listen to my babies cry and realize that I am as equally angry as they are and I knew that I must come on yelp to warn people of this horrible customer service. But whats really sad, is that people already know how bad the customer service is! And this place is going to keep getting business because they cater to a certain group and that group gets special priority, whoever they are.

The workers all look miserable. The black girl handing out skates was a smart ass and complaining about work with another white female worker. Seriously? At least have the decency to whisper, maybe you wouldnt be complaining so much about being given extra tasks if you actually worked. Hardly ANY smiles. Arcade games were off, which I dont understand, but I guess its a good thing bc there wasnt many workers on the floor to assist anyways. Everyone was just behind counters looking miserable, or talking amongst each other. Luckily the most help you need at a skating rink is paying at the front and getting your skates. But I can say that the girl that was on the mic did a pretty good job. Kudos to her for her enthusiasm (whether real or not) especially being surrounded by misery.

The name says it all: "Rollerland". Somehow, engineers found a way to simulate continental drift by reconstructing a scale model of Pangea atop a 4-acre bed of industrial lucite roller-bars. I went grudgingly, expecting to be disappointed as I have been by so many other high-concept tectonic showrooms (hello, "San Andreas Follies"!). Instead, I was gratified to find ample parking and a good number of indoor halogen light bars hung at an optimal height of 11.4 meters. On the downside, they have only Diet Coke at the snackbar (Diet Pepsi is clearly the superior choice). Overall, I would probably go again, if for no other reason than to skate repeatedly over some kids arm until it broke. Kids are so lame, especially after you break their limbs ;P !

I took my daughter there and given the age of the building, didnt expect much. I was pleasantly surprised at what a great time we had for such little money. I found a coupon on their web site which helped save a couple of bucks. The staff was young, but they were all very nice and professional - they are clearly selective in their hiring. And despite the age of the building and even with what appears to be much of the original decor, the place was VERY clean. As we left a young man was cleaning the glass door, which he held for us and wished us a good day. Very impressed!

I have visited Rollerland twice in the past month. Both times the DJ decided to play what he wanted rather than what would be nice for everyone to hear. The job of a DJ is to know what to play. Multiple times the music cleared the floor. At one point, a manager entered the DJ both and stopped the music because kids werent skating, but were off the skates floor. Excuse me?! How is that everyone elses problem?! Obviously management has become careless about the experience of paying customers.

my family and i really loved it the atmosphere was great it was like stepping back into a 1980s roller rink. the staff was nice, we went on saturday night during all-you-can-eat pizza night. the pizza was okay, but for the unlimited drinks and unlimited pizza, it was well worth it. the roller skates we rented were very nice and not at all old or beat up ones your mother probably used in her day. we will definately come back again.
