Please keep your pets on leashes. This is one of California’s premier birding areas because of the variety of habitats. It has open salt water, fresh water ponds, brackish ponds, mud flats, salt marshes, grasslands, riparian, and small evergreen woods. Each habitat has its own assemblage of birds and small animals. On a yearly basis over 200 bird species are present here. I have seen weasels, river otters, bobcats, deer, fox scats, bear tracks, small rodents, and insectivores.

Great place to walk with or without your dog. There are always birdwatching opportunities, and I have seen river otters several times. The trails are very low difficulty level and it is so close to Arcata and HSU that its the perfect place to stroll for someone just needing a quick mental break from work or studies.

The Arcata Marsh is a model of using constructed wetlands to treat wastewater. Instead of concrete, metal, chemicals and an probable eyesore, this wastewater treatment plant is an ecosystem replete with refuge for birds, fish, people and more.

Nice hike with the kids. Eduventure site. Would have given 4 stars except the information area was closed when we arrived due to staffing issues. Open again before we left. Would have liked to ask questions before our hike.

The center isnt huge, but its interesting and has a bathroom. The real draw is the numerous trails in the surrounding marsh. You can pick up the trail with various interpretive signs here.

Beautiful! Love the quick reprieve of the mash when its only a short drive (or walk) from the plaza. Go for a stroll, run or bike, no matter what you will be happy that you did!

Awesome biodiversity and lots of fresh air. P.S. Watch out for the poison hemlock along all of the trail paths.
