We were so looking forward to this part of our day. We paid the $54.00 for two tickets and boarded the train. To our disappointment, the train only went up the tracks & then reversed itself to come back to the station. We were NOT informed that the open air car was taken out of commission 2 weeks prior to our trip & that we would NOT be going into the tunnel. I understand that we have had storms that have been particularly rough this winter and have taken a toll on the tunnel & tracks BUT we would not have paid $54.00 to take a ride we could of hiked. We feel like we were completely ripped off, taken advantage of. Maybe this review will serve as a warning to anyone else planning to do this activity because you will NOT be informed by any of the staff waiting to take your money for a ticket!!!

The Skunk train was a great experience that my daughter got to share with not only her grandparents, but great grandparents as well. They have been riding this line since my mother in law was a young girl. Now my daughter can talk about the gorgeous views and wildlife she saw on her adventures with them. If the weather is nice I would highly recommend the open air car. If you prefer to sit there are some lovely bench seats that easily transform to face forward or backwards with just the slightest touch. The only thing I wish was more convenient was the concessions. They only take cash on the train. So if you happen to be feeling a bit peckish I recommend hitting the ATM before you go. All in all it was wonderful being able to make memories with 3 generations and the views are great!

I really enjoyed the ride out to Northspur and back. It was a nice quiet, fun trip. You get to see a lot of trees and beautiful hills. The train singer was enjoyable, and they had drinks and snacks on the train. The things to be aware of: 1) The steam train is being rebuilt and is out of action for the year 2) The steam train ONLY runs from Fort Bragg when it is operating 3) The tunnel between Fort Bragg and Northspur is closed, so there is no train from Fort Bragg towards Northspur 4) Bring a picnic as there is no food service this year (2017) With all that, the cost was a little high for me. I was expecting the steam train, not the diesel train, but I had already purchased tickets and hotel, so did it anyway. The staff is nice and friendly and they have a good souvenir shop.

I have been a rail enthusiast my whole life. Tried 6 times in the early and late 80s as a kid with the family to ride the skunk train and always not running after are 500 mile trip down from oregon. Now Im 36 years old and as of 2015 my wife bought advanced tickets 2 months before setting out to ride the train only to find out they wont be running for another 2 months down the road. Never got notice till we arrived at our hotel. I wonder how this company makes any money. The passenger cars look like they havent seen a paint job in a long time, and why is the G scale layout only to be viewed when the train is running. We could have at least looked at that. I gave up on these guys, if I go to fort bragg and it runs Ill ride but not going to make another special trip for nothing.

Everything but the price. My son just LOVES the sound of this train. We dont live too far away from it. He always wishes he could be on it but we couldnt afford it in a million years. What a dream come true to be able to take him on it, too. Someone said it was owned by a big corporation....no. It is not. Its been hit with a couple of tragedies lately as well, getting the bridge cleared out, the flood water....etc. I love the train. Keeping the paint up is an ongoing job, like the GG bridge, on a much smaller scale of course lol, but its never been left so long that it looks like ghost town train. The Skunk is wonderful. I love it. I just need to not be a disabled local artist so that I can afford to go with my son and husband on it a couple times a year.

I came from the east coast and was certain that I was going to see some majestic trees and be close to them..............first of all, the trip was to be four hours and then two days before I was called and told the trip would be only two hours long...........it was nothing short of just a slow train ride through the trees and maybe there was a sequoia tree here or there, but no one announced it if there was. I was SO sad to have come so far and really saw nothing. The sign driving into Willits said it was the "Gateway to the Redwoods....." I was very disappointed and sad.....wrongful advertising as far as I am concerned.....

Went with a group of 4 adults, 5 children, and two dogs. It was so fun! They were extremely accommodating, the food and drinks from the vendor on board were good, and the outdoor car was awesome to ride on! The kids really enjoy doing this. Would bring a sweater for the beginning, but once inland in the summer time, its perfect t shirt weather. This was our second trip on board and I would do it again. The first time we did it it was when it was running to the break stop. This time it was just an hour total. I thought it was perfect for our small children. Not too long, and still exciting by the end of the ride.

This review is in regards to the one hour loop along pudding creek. Just terrible. This could be fun if you are under the age of 12. As an adult, it is a miserable experience. The commentary during the ride is intolerable (like being stuck on a bad Wikipedia article and not being able to navigate away). The multiple plugs that they make for their half off cocktail hour and purchaseable group photos are annoying. The ride itself is tolerable except feeling packed in like a can of sardines and not having much fresh air moving through. This was not worth 27 dollars. It was not worth 10 in my estimation.

Most boring thing Ive ever paid for. For $27 I could have taken a hike through the wilderness park in town and seen exact same thing. Trees, bushes, poison oak, and a stagnant creek. Apparently the highlight of the trip is the tunnel which collapsed last year. They only way youd get any enjoyment out of this is to drink yourself silly and make your own fun. I heard that they are working on the tunnel and once opened will up the rates to $87 per person. So glad that wasnt me! I bet they will begin seeing a huge rise in unsatisfied customers at that price. Its not worth $27 let alone $87!!!!

Wanting to relive the skunk train ride I enjoyed as a hild we booked a weekend here to ride the train and relax. The train crew anounced that the skunk train used recycled engine oil as fuel.... this was the nasty black smoke we took into our bodys the whole train ride... burning bunker-oil is banned elseware , im not sure how they could get away with it here.... our lungs hurt for four days after the trip , nice trees on the ride , but come on burn something cleaner.... like moonshine or wood.... train is owned by a big corporation.....
