I went camping here in the fall and was pleasantly surprised that the weather was as nice as it was. The campsites here are really close together, but there are trees and brush to separate the sites so you dont feel like youre peering into your neighbors campsite. We had a huge problem with racoons when we were here. They broke into our ice chests and ate most of our food on the first night there. The "bear box"/cabinet they provide isnt very big so make sure that you have a cooler that has a lock on it. The racoons are pretty ballsy and would start to come by when we were around the campfire. Luckily there is a small store close by so if you need anything and dont want to drive all the way into town its not too far. Highlights: walking trails.

This place is one of the seminal experiences of the Mendocino Coast, and is woven throughout the fabric of my life. Whether you want to get some sun on the beach, stand in the surf to catch the summer runs of smelt, cast a line on the banks of the estuary, or just set up some chairs and use one of the many free-standing grills, you should expect to leave with a smile. There are an abundance of clean, private campsites available for a reasonable fee, and just across the highway is a horse stable where you can select a steed and take that epic horseback ride through the forest and along the beach. If you dont enjoy your time here, I suspect the problem is you and not the park.

this is a popular park, so make reservations if possible. We stayed here mid October and it was pretty full. Great camping, although limited site lengths. Longest sites are 35 feet, and there are only a few of those. We stayed in site 121 and it was close to the beach. We were able to hear the surf all night! Wonderful beaches and hiking trails, very dog friendly. The sites are arranged in circles and have a lot of room between them, so you dont hear much of your fellow campers. I also want to mention that the Ranger at the gate is the most helpful and so very welcoming! This is one of our favorite parks on the California coast!

Great campsites. Incredibly dog friendly and amazingly handicapped accessable. They have raised wooden trails making it accessable for wheelchairs. Most of the park rangers were accessable and friendly. We could hear the waves on the beach from our campsite. We had a great firepit with a swing over grate for cooking on. We had a hard time getting tent stakes into the ground at the handicapped site (nice and smooth ground). The campsite host loaned us a heavy axe and even offered replacement tent stakes if we needed them. We hope to return here for a longer stay.

This was one of our favourite State Park camping spots on our whole 6 week trip. We were in T95 which was huge and grassy and flat. It is right beside the trail to the beach so you can easily nip out for sunset. It had a few big trees which made it possible to put up a tarp. It is walking distance to a very kid friendly little Cove and harbour seals viewing area. The only draw back to the campsite was that the showers had wood bugs on the walls? I guess they just really like it in there.

This place is so pretty! When I went, day use was free. They even have whale skeletons! There is parking across from the beach that is surrounded by flowers and a lake. The sand was black, which was super cool. This place has a a pathway way that leads you up to seal watching areas. There are fat little squirrels that run up to you, they were just so cute. Dogs are allowed on the beach too. WARNING: The bathrooms were absolutely horrendous.

I have been coming to this park since I was a child. My family and I return every year and have the time of our lives. It is a beautiful place! Come prepared with warm clothes, food, and an adventurous spirit. I would definitely recommend camping at Mackerricher State Park, however please remember to make reservations asap. This park is very popular and if you expend to just walk-in, you may just have to find an alternative...

MacKerricher State Park is a wonderful campground. The campground is well groomed and facilities are in good repair. There are miles of paved trails and walkable beaches. As a landscape photographer I found endless interesting scenery to photograph including a boardwalk that leads to a viewpoint above the edge of the water. There were lots of people in the campground but we didnt feel crowded as the sites were a good size.

MacKerricher State Park has a number of great sights and walks you can do all for free, with highlights including seal viewing and tide pools. As the park ranger described it to us when we went in, you can go north up the coast for "romantic sandy beach walks," or south for "adventurous tide pool exploring." Either option is a ton of fun! Make sure to bring binoculars for the seals if you can.

We passed through here as cyclists. It was inexplicably twice as much as all the other state parks and their idea of hiker/biker camping was to shove everyone into the same spot and hope we figure out how to sleep on each other. Dirty bathrooms and gross showers. Bring earplugs. Kids raced through the campground screaming until after 10pm and started again at 6am.

The glass beach in MacKerricher consists of 3 separate areas, all part of a former trash dump. The amount of glass is minimal, but there are tidal pools containing interesting creatures. The walk on the clifftops is nice, and there are numerous areas to stop and enjoy the view. Also check out the fox squirrels in the coastal prairie.

Weve been here twice now and both times stayed on the south side of Lake Cleone. The camp host is really nice and the sites are clean and well maintained. The bathrooms were cleaned every other day and we were there mid week. The showers did get a little cool if there was more then one person showering. Its a nice quiet family campground!

It is a beautiful park. The baby seal hatchery is awesome. Laguna point and cleone lake is beautiful. Worth checking out. But camping is like a mobile home park bumper to bumper sites. Rude staff. Dirty bathrooms and cars driving very fast through the park dangerous for kids on bikes. They do have campfire meetings and beach walks .

Mt absolute favorite beach! Gorgeous views from every angle. Beach squirrels. Sea Lions. Tide pools. Aqua water. And the boardwalk around Laguna Point. Absolutely breathtaking. If you dont go anywhere else, make sure to at least stop here. Day use is free! No fee for parking. Camp grounds, there is a fee.

There is a wheelchair walkway out to the whale watching deck. Great camp spots. If you choose a walk in camp space you will have a very private campsite. They also provide a cart to carry you camp gear. Great whale watching. Rangers have activities for kids like tide pooling and hiking.

Ive never officially camped out at MacKerricher, because Fort Bragg is my home away from home, and we have a house there... However, weve taken many day trips through the park. There is a fun learning center out front that the kids love thats interactive about whales and sea life.
