Worth the drive. Ak-Chin Southern Dunes golf course is a peaceful place...no matter how well or poor youre playing. Golf is not an easy game as every skill level of this wonderful game can attest to. However, every hole at Ak-Chin is unique and well taken care of. It is not difficult to find this place as the mighty eucalyptus trees that surround this golf course stand out among the flat desert floor and farmland. I will never grow tired of the smell of eucalyptus in the air. The look and play-ability of the golf course gives off an Australian outback or American midwest feeling throughout the round. Yes, there are a lot of bunkers out here. But unless your golf game is way way off you will not be in more than a couple... if any at all. Golf is about having fun outdoors and enjoying good company...not making the PGA Tour. Ak-Chin Southern Dunes golf course helps you enjoy this great game by trying to help you relax with its peaceful surroundings and fun course layout. Again, worth the drive. **Fair-warning: bring deet/bug spray to the course as the tall grass encourages bugs. You put on the bug spray properly and they will definitely leave you alone.**

I Will Say This, That In 30+ Years Of "Golfing", This Was By Far The "Hardest", And Most "Unforgiving" Course I Have Ever Played !!! Who Ever "Designed" This Course, Was Not A "Golfer"...Yes It Is "Beautiful", But That Is Where The "Good" Stops !!! The Desert Between Tee Box To Fairway(on ever hole) Is Unfair, And Not Necessary. There Is At Least 50% More "Sand Traps" Than Needed, Plus The Sand In Them Was "Terrible" !!! The Greens Were Pefect In Looks, Fast, And Putted True !!! BUT...I Dont Think They Had Been Airriated In 3 Years...In 18 Holes My Foursome Never Hit A Green On The Fly, And It Held !!! To Tell You How Hard They Was.....I Never Once Saw A "Divot" !!! To Say I Was Very Disappointed With The Course, Is A Understatement, And Having To Pay $150 For The "Privledge" To Play This "Death Trap", Makes It Even Worse !!! Thanks For Listening !!!

My only complaint is the amount of bunkers on this course. Its tough, so be prepared to spend a lot more time in the sand than David Hasselfhoff. If you cant hit out of the sand, well then youre pretty much out of luck. There is, however, a really nice chipping green by the driving range to practice on before your round. Otherwise good luck because I shot my highest round of golf at Southern Dunes this year. The management is awesome here. They do a great job at keeping up the pace of play when things get slowed down. Also, the Arroyo Grill has some amazing food and refreshing beers on tap if you need to relax after your (terrible) round.

we played here the weekend of the open and had a great time. out of the 4 courses we played i liked Southern Dunes the most and would highly recommend. Conditions, staff and pace of play were excellent. our only complaint was being nudged by the marshall at the turn...we were 4 minutes behind pace of play and there were no group in sight behind us for a least 1 probably 2 hoes. otherwise, it felt like we had the course to ourselves. i would definitely return and would probably try to fit in 36.

We just played in the southern dunes scramble and won the event at 18 under. The prize for winning was a foursome of golf that requires me to pay $25 per person for a cart fee. So winning this event cost me $100 and will still cost me $100 to play again. Oh..and i cant play until after noon on Saturday our Sunday...are you serious?? They should be ashamed! Not only will i never go back here, but i will tell every person i know who plays golf in the Phoenix area what a disgrace this place is.

Highly over rated! Nice layout/design, greens are in good shape. BUT, the surroundings are as ugly as the desert gets, fairways and rough have a lot of burned out areas. Most importantly are the millions of biting flies. They built this place close to some dairy farms, if the wind blows at all you will spend the day smelling cow dung. Without the wind, you will be covered with flies all day. They are everywhere and Im talking millions of them. Wouldnt go back!

I paid $75ish for a early twilight tee time (1:30pm) the first week of February. I thought it was very good value. I was blown away by the quality of the course. Tough, but a really neat design. Lots of bunkers would be an understatement, but the greens were generally pretty large fast and true. Keep it out of the bunkers and youll be fine. For goodness sake, keep it out of the bunkers!!!

Ak-Chin Southern Dunes is one of my favorite courses in the country. The staff is incredible, the practice facility is world class, and the course is ALWAYS in great shape. That, and #miniDunes, the short course on the floor of the driving range, is unique and really fun to play. It doesnt get much better than Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club.

Good conditions TEE to green including bunkers. Greens recently aerated as advertised, still a little bumpy. Good pace of play. Always challenging. Everything was up to our expectations.
