I recently stayed at the Hilton in downtown Scranton earlier this week and until this stay I would have referred it to anyone, but my opinion has sorely changed after my recent experience. Ive stayed here multiple times in the past and swear by it when I come in town on business. My check-in and first evening was fine. I had booked the room over the phone a week earlier with their reservations office and had a verbal and automated confirmation on a room from the 11th to the 14th. The morning of the 13th my girlfriend and I were awakened by a fire alarm at 5am. Moments later we are told there is no fire and we should not leave our rooms. The alarm proceeded to blare for another hour before it stopped a little while after 6am. Later that day as I prepared to go to work at noon the maid asked when I would be checking out and I said "tomorrow" and she said she must have been mistaken. Out of curiosity I checked with the front desk and a women said "you only have a room till today and check out was 2 hours ago" I told her my confirmation and my credit card billing statement that the room was held from the 11th until the 14th. She then just said I was wrong and they were booked and asked if i was still paying cash. i said there was a mix up and i need a room and she said disregarded my statement. i went up to get my stuff together (now being late for work) i came back down and angrily pay my bill and the women walked away and shuffled papers ignoring me and left another sweet girl to deal with me. When I finished my transaction and the nicer women at the counter stepped away to answer the phone the other women just said "thank you sir" smugly and disregarded me. I may not look like lawyers and business people who were staying for whatever conference was being held. Myself, being a heavily tattooed professional who spends money at your establishment because I usually enjoy the service, i felt i was being cast aside as trash by the smug and unhelpful women at the front desk. Almost as if I was less then her for how I looked, I left infuriated. Especially by the establishment that houses an annual tattoo convention I so avidly attend. Later then night i scrounged Scranton for a decent hotel with a vacancy, I found it at the Courtyard in Moosic about ten minutes away. When i gave them my card to hold the room the told me it had been declined. When I called my card company they had told me the Hilton was holding the full length of my initial stay and a deposit and it hasnt been lifted although they had cut my stay short and received a cash payment. Its three days later and they have still yet to lift the hold. I called and all anyone can say is "the manager isnt here, can u call tomorrow" and tell me they cant help me. I will NOT be attending the Hilton Scranton in the future, It was a terrible experience and I was treated as trash disregarded into the streets of Scranton, out of site out of mind.

Stayed a week, had no issues the entire time. The Front Desk staff has been helpful, the housekeeping does a great job doing what they do. My only complaint would be in the restaurants. It would be my opinion that service lacks there. On two occasions I waited longer than what I think is reasonable to be seated in an effectively empty dining room. The second time, I made eye contact, explained that I need a four top for space to work, and then followed the wait staff through the dining room, spotted a table and asked if it was okay. Then the whispers start, "He seated himself." Silly. I recommend proactive seating of yourself until this is ironed out. Otherwise, you will wait for 5 to 7 minutes to sit in a dining room that is essentially empty. Parking can be slightly confusing, but not terrible, you will park in a garage about 50 feet down the road. This is a very old city with narrow streets, the parking garage is your best bet. I would also mention that the photos on Local are outdated. The rooms and lobby have been redone and are very nice and modern. Opinions expressed are those of the author and are not intended to assert any fact.

I booked this hotel for my sons graduation from University of Scranton because they were the closest to campus and offered a shuttle to campus. I left a request for a wake up call, but the hotel lost it power. They do not have a back up generator. I never received wake up call and the woman at front desk was so busy answering the phone she did not assist with calling the shuttle . The shuttle driver, Bernard, saw me in the lobby and he asked me if I needed the shuttle . He got me to the graduation with 1 minute to spare and I saw my son receive his white coat . If not for the shuttle driver Bernard I would have missed the graduation. I would recommend that any one from the University of Scranton stay in the Radisson and drive to the campus and not just stay here because of the shuttle . YOU MAY NOT GET THERE. The hotel front desk people were not helpful at assisting with the problem at all . When I went to address the problem later in the day the front desk manager, he just handed me the manager card and walked away . Needless to say I will never stay at another Hilton and have told everyone that I know at Scranton not to either.

My experience at the Hilton, occur with a last minute option to get a room for day use only. The hotel was clean as well as my room. The staff seemed to be friendly yet my day wasnt over yet. The bathroom shower drain water didnt go through when I took a shower. Then when my girlfriend and I went to eat dinner. The waitress took our ordered but took more than 40 min to bring our food to us. She was busy talking to other people at the bar area. And hadnt noticed that our food was ready until I mentioned it to a manager. Which he didnt do much for us. Finally our food came to us, the food was good but my girl friends cheese on her burger seemed like it had been sitting for a while. Finally when we were about to check out. I advised the front desk about the issue we had. They didnt seem to care at all. Overall it wasnt a pleasant experience specially when my girlfriend had been a ex Hilton worker.

There are some shady things happening here. My husband and I booked a room for one night as a little get-away. Everything was great-- until they credit card bill came. Even though our check-out receipt was what we expected, the credit card bill was $400! They claim we extended our stay and ordered room service on the second night. We did NOT stay a second night. I dont know what shady dealings they have going on that someone else extended our stay, stayed in our room, and ordered room service on our bill. We are still in the process of working this out, and the front desk staff have been very rude. Not helpful. The only help weve gotten is through the 1-800 hilton service line. Well see if the 1-800 staff can get us some money back. This is ridiculous. DONT RISK STAYING HERE.
