Hickory Heights easily is one of leading public courses in Western PA. To the novice golfer, Hickory Heights may be challenging: out of bounds on both sides, longer rough lengths, and significant sand traps. However, the course is absolutely beautiful- especially in the fall. If you are able to control your shots effectively, this might become your favorite course. For beginner golfers, I would make sure you get your practice in before attempting the course. I recommend playing the back 9 first, as it generally is less challenging than the front nine. Play does get backed up at peak times, but the crowd generally is easier going than St Clair or Lindenwood. The greens are excellent- proper Kentucky Bentgrass, and unlike other courses in the area, the course stays watered season-round. The fairways are very soft. Lastly, the service here is phenomenal. The staff up at the clubhouse generally care for your needs, and its a very nice culture. Not overly casual and not country club pretentious. Truly a great place to play for all levels. If you play 18- plan to have lunch at Sammys Pin High Club. Its a fantastic overlook of the back nine and the level of food quality for a golf club is pretty solid. The one thing that was a downside is the convenience of the course. It was 90 the day that I played, and water was hard to come by. I understand that golf courses are going away with water coolers, but there definitely should be some ways to innovate. The beverage service is nice but definitely should come equipped with Square or some sort of card payment. Additionally, the cart software was pretty cumbersome. If you deviated from the path just slightly, you would have to reverse your way back at turtle pace. This course is very tough to be cart path only when you have to walk 30-40+ yards uphill to the other side. If drainage is the issue- I would definitely resolve it in time. I understand there will always be trouble spots, but seeing the entire hole draped off is a tough sight. Being able to drive up to at least some shots would have made the course an easier battle. Ive been playing golf for 7+ years throughout Western PA and this remains my favorite course.

As an advocate golfer and member of the PGA, I have never been so embarrassed by a local club/management. Complete lack of respect for their patrons. Ranger and local pro (who I believe is part of ownership) demanded that our group "skip a hole" with no group behind us. I understand slow play, but a complete round on a Sunday morning in less than 4 hours does not constitute the overly aggressive attitude we received. The pro, wearing hot pink/fuschia pants (perhaps a claim for attention?), jumped from his golf cart and charged at our group when we inquired as to why we were being asked to skip holes. I have never seen or heard of such outrageous behavior from a "PGA Professional." Should be ashamed of their "customer first" attitude as described on the website...

Payed $46 in Greens Fees for a 9:44am Tee Time on a Sunday. We pulled up to the first hole at 9:42 with 10 carts in front of us (kudos to whoever was scheduling that day), we decided to tee off on the 10th hole to save the hour wait of teeing off on the front. When we finally came around to the first hole we had a lovely view of three bulldozers in what used to be the pond. Detours, mud, more holes under construction led to a terrible front nine. If 1/3 of your course looks like a construction site then give a heads up or lower your greens fees to the standard. Ill stick with Quicksilver or Lindenwood if Im going to fork up over $45 in greens fees. Its a shame because I was a fan of Hickory Heights until this last experience.

Prior to the round even starting, there was a 45 minute delay on the first tee because the pro shop overbooked a handful of tee times, including ours (booked 5 players instead of 4). There were 16 players yet to start ahead of us, and we arrived at the first tee box just moments before our tee time. Once out on the course, tee boxes were very uneven and chopped up. Very disappointed and will not be returning.

Nice course, but.... GPS constantly reminded me to speed up play even though we were never more than 2 minutes behind. Geofencing seemed arbitrary with no physical indication where I could drive cart and where I couldnt. I had no choice but to find out the hard way when the alarm went off. Biggest problem: A 93F day and not a drop of water to drink on any of the 18 holes. Not safe.

This course just eats up golf balls. You have so many elevation changes and blind shots that its impossible to play a fast round or truly enjoy yourself. Its kept in decent shape but nothing spectacular for the relatively high price. If youre either South or West of Pittsburgh, go play either Quicksilver, Lindenwood, or Village Green instead.

Course is going through some changes yet it is still the best public course around I only anticipate it getting better. The grounds crew does a great job friendly staff and the food is good. The prices are fair and when you get on the course you will understand that it is worth it for a public course.

Played here recently and the greens at Hickory Heights are better than most country clubs in the area. Course condition was superb for a public course. Pizza was great too! Will go back again and again.

Great place to play, albeit very challenging if you are not a "great" golfer The staff is always very friendly and there is never too much of a delay. Weekday pricing of 28$ to ride 18 cant be beat

Truly challenging course. This course can change your mind, on how well you think you play golf. Staff was friendly, and helpful. Not for a beginner golfer.
