Im reading reviews about this place complaining about the service being unfriendly and Im kind of scratching my head...we recently visited and the people couldnt have been nicer. We started out at the bar waiting about 15 minutes for a table for two. The bartender is known for his Old Fashions made from scratch and they were delicious. We were seated promptly and at first, service was kind of slow. But once the room cleared a bit, they were quick to fill a glass, to bring dinner, and were very attentive and nice. I ordered the Prime Rib King Cut (20 oz) and after eating all the breadsticks and the garlic cream cheese butter, I couldnt finish the whole thing. Ive eaten lots of prime rib in my time, but this one, hands down, was the best cut I ever had. Melt in your mouth deliciousness. With a side of wild rice pilaf, it was perfect. My date ordered the Almond encrusted Walleye, and she loved it. Flaky, the topping crunchy and not over breaded, it was served piping hot. The place itself is quintesential northwoods supper club, and you feel like Al Capone could take the seat right next to you...charming! Dinner for two, plus drinks, was less than $80 and for the food we had, it was a great deal. We almost went back the next night, but decided to save it for another night. Soon. If youre in the area, and hankering for the northwoods supper club experience, this is it. Look no further.

Drove by Golden Pines on vacation many years saying as we pass, gotta try this place. The sign out front says "Prime Rib Everyday" So we finally stopped in. It has an extensive menu ranging from German food to seafood, steaks and of course the prime rib, which my wife and I both had. It was hard to make a choice with so many good things on the menu. We had the Queen cut, 12oz., it was done to perfection and melted in our mouths. The king is 22oz. We also had a couple appetizers. The breaded and fried duck strip with a sweet and sour dipping sauce and the shrimp and crab stuffed mushrooms were both excellent. Service was very friendly and timely. It was a little on the expensive side but I never mind paying for great quality food. We will be back to try the German food.

Absolutely horrific experience, from the poorly prepared food to the supremely rube hostess/ manager (Diane) it was the worst dining experience I have ever had!!! They ran out of some food, our meals were either overcooked or cold and we received very minimal assistance from the staff to rectify the issues that came up. I will NEVER recommend this place to anyone, and I will contact the owners as best I can to inform them of the very rude and unaccommodating hostess Diane

This place used to be GREAT! Unfortunately not any more. I ordered Ribs which used to fall off the bone and were excellent... That was the past. On my recent trip, the ribs were actually COLD and after eating them it would have killed for dental floss. Getting the meat off the bone was more like chewing corn off the cob! I will not go back. Thank God that we didnt have guests with us...that would have been embarrassing on top of having a bad meal!

Hit and miss. When its good, its beyond great. When its not good, its really bad. The staff are astoundingly grumpy. Restaurants in tourist areas cant have angry staff. Unfortunately, the reputation is spreading via word of mouth and its too bad. Ive been visiting this restaurant monthly for 3 decades and it would be a shame to have this St. Germain institution lose its good-standing on regulars and tourists alike.

The food was OK; our waitress was nice. The hostess was a different story. We tried to order an appetizer while sitting in the bar waiting for a table. The hostess told us there were so many food orders ahead of us in the kitchen that we wouldnt get the appetitizer until we were at the table. Then she walked away... without taking our order. It was the first time someone wouldnt take my order in a restaurant.

I just had dinner at Golden Pines, and it was EXCELLENT! From the super friendly staff, the fast service and the BEST steak I have EVER had, this place is worthy of a five star review! The rather new steak chef Gordon is obviously a veteran professional and I hope he gets congratulated on his wonderful ability! I will be back, and I will tell everyone to visit Golden Pines! FANTASTIC!!!

This used to be my favorite place to eat, went for the fish dinner they did not have a childs option for fish so to pay the adult amount a little too much our food came and the deep fried fish was over done. Was early enough so that cant be the excuse Service was great. Wont be going back any time soon
