Tired of the sophomoric movies featured at the mega cinemas? The Grand Cinema is refuge your brain is looking for. There is always an interesting feature and most of the time more than one you want to see. The theater takes me back to the small theatres we went to as children. A not for profit operation that is supported through memberships and volunteers. The selection of movies usually 4 rotates every couple of weeks, staggered so if you have to choose between a couple you have another chance to see your 2nd or 3rd choice. They also offer many special and educational events through out the year. The Grand Cinema is a treasure for movie lovers.

I recently bought movie tickets through their website and due to my own stupidity I bought them for that very night instead of the future date that I intended. I called the theater and Dennis promptly resolved my problem and left me passes at will call for the next day when I originally intended to see the show. The burden of my own mistake should never fall on the shoulders of a business and I am sincerely appreciative of the gesture Dennis showed by helping me correct the issue. I have loved the Grand since I was a kid and I will be frequenting it for many years to come. Thanks guys! Cheers

The Grand Cinema is a real gem in Tacoma. I dont know the history of the building but currently it houses at least four small theaters where current mature movies are shown. A lot of movie buffs like this place because in addition to current movies they also show vintage movies every once in a while. Ive also heard that on Wednesdays they caption all (?) movies for the hard of hearing. Definitely a more mature crowd comes here. Many of the help is volunteer to keep costs down. You can also purchase a membership that provides a discount on tickets and free parking. Neat place.

I love theaters like this, and I really want to give them a better rating. But I have to express my criticism due to the lack of leg room. Ive only been there once, in theater one, so I dont know if the others are the same, but where we sat, there is less leg room than there would be in coach on an airplane. Im only 5 11" and my knees were pressed up against the seat back in front of me while I was sitting straight up the entire movie. Taking out just one row of seats and spreading them out might make a world of difference.

A True Gem of Tacoma. The Grand is largely staffed by devoted volunteers. Most of the people you see working are there because they love film. Typically the only paid staff person is in the box office. The Grand brings hard to find independent, foreign, art and second run films to our city. There are 4 screens. Tickets are $10 each, with the usual discounts. Members get $2.50 off their tickets. The Grand is also known for having particularly good popcorn....!

The Grand Cinema Tacoma is the definition of a diamond in the rough. This down-town gem is one of the last worthwhile sources of entertainment in T-town. Not only is the customer service warm and friendly and the experience quaint, but the prices are more than reasonable and they make a valiant effort (through movie selection) to interject some art & culture into an area devoid those things. I believe The Grand Cinema Tacoma should be declared a landmark.

This Theatre is quaint, quirky and just perfect for downtown Tacoma. Tonight was my first time seeing a film here. I was pleasantly surprised by the family feel as soon as I walked through the entrance doors. The seats are comfortable, sound adequate and staff very pleasant. Biggest surprise was the cooler of to go cups from Ice Cream Social. Including two choices of dairy free flavors. I cant wait to go back!

The Grand Theater is an incredibly unique art-house theater. The movies shown here are not your standard summer blockbuster fare. Rather youll see foreign and independent films. Movie posters line the walls and the concession stand is excellent. Everyone who works there is passionate about film and you can have great conversations while just waiting in line for popcorn. This is one of my favorite places to go in Tacoma.

This is our "go to" theater in Tacoma. Small, but with appropriately - sized screens, this theater has a "family feel to it and fits like a comfortable old shoe and, yes, it has great popcorn, to boot. Become a supporting member and enjoy some extra perks, including free parking. They always have an interesting assortment of films and they support families and local artists, as well. Whats not to like?

This cinema offers interesting movies, but less so than in the past. Current popular selections are the norm, whereas not that many years ago, foreign productions held the screen more often than not. Its clientele are like me, of the older variety, so movies are more easily enjoyed without outbursts of loud talk, or laughter unrelated to the film. Prices are better than they are at a chain theater.

I really enjoy watching movies here. This isnt your same old movie theatre! The films they choose have meaning and a message. I always feel like I am part of a community when I attend a show in this theater. Plus, the concessions are wonderful and unique! My favorite is the Earl Grey Tea Ice Cream. On the downside the seats are very close together and there is minimal leg room.

I miss when I lived a block from the Grand. Id see movies I could see nowhere else in Puget Sound. Though I live a dozen miles away, there is still some features that just demand my return. Largely volunteer-run, the Tacoma Grand Cinema also has a number of programs, way too numerous to mention here, that bestow Grand on community and entertainment alike.

Saw David Gilmore (Pink Floyd guitarist) movie live at Pompeii here and it was fantastic. First time Ive been to this theater. Enjoyable, small screen & its all volunteer. They serve wine & beer (usually only Friday thru Sunday) & use "REAL" butter on the pop corn. They are known for showing independent & old films. I suggest you check it out.

My family has been a member of the Grand since it was established. It is the highlight of our week. You can blindly go and you will always find a great movie that will make you think and grow. The Grand is the best thing in Tacoma for those who live here. Keep it up!

Theres a reason this place has such high reviews and praises. A great independent movie theater, deeply connected with the community, and constantly improving. They bring in a great selection of movies and offer a competitive experience to the "big box" setting.

My husband and I are members. We love this place. Quality, award winning movies are a staple. If youre an artsy film lover and having a variety of cinema/film related activities to participate in or volunteer for (they are a non-profit), this is your place.

Historic movie cinema that shows artistic documentaries and limited release films, as well as rescreenings of Hollywood classics. Old fashioned concessions and small (by todays standard) theaters lends a nostalgic feeling that you cant get at chain theaters.
