I love this theater but the reason Im only giving it to stars is because AMC recently purchased this location. It used to be Sundance 21 and up serving great cocktails and a pretty extensive dinner menu. But thats pretty much gone by the wayside now its still 21 and up but everythings been scaled back the drinks are smaller the beers are no longer bombers and the food menu is going to be changing. A pro tip that they are still honoring for now is every Monday night movies are now $6.75 with an orca card. Make sure each person has an orca card because they will not allow you to use the same ORCA card to get the discount. With AMC if you pay $15 for the year you get Premier access for ticketing and concessions plus you dont have to pay the online service charge if you buy tickets in advance period so it pays for itself if youre going to go to the movies more than 2 times. Theres parking available in the lot just north of the theater that you can pay via phone but I highly suggest driving around for a few blocks youll find free parking. Make sure everyone has their ID otherwise you cant get in for 21 and Over and realize even though youve been carded your going to have to show it again if you get anything from the concessions. Sign up for the AMC Rewards program which is free so that you get discounts and special offers. But again if you pay $15 for the year you get four points for every dollar you spend so its well worth it. Still one of the best places to watch a movie cuz you can order food and get a buzzer and Ill let you know when your food is ready. And if you dont want it screaming kids which who wants a screaming kid at a movie probably the best place to go in the U District.

Want to enjoy this theater more, but the film selection has gone down hill since AMC took over. Now it shows the same (often bad) Hollywood mass produced films you can see anywhere. While I enjoy the reserved seating and the food is a notch above, due to the film selection I now have less need to visit here. Pro tip: Buy reserved seats online, and show up 20 minutes late. This is because AMC shows 25 minutes of previews+commercials that you must sit through before the actual movie. The mark of a theater worth visiting is inversely related to the number of commercials/previews they show. Edit July 25, 2017: Lately, the film selection has been a bit more varied, so Ive revised my review upward. Still a long way from an independent movie house, but I hope this trend continues. As other reviewers have noted, the food lines can be ridiculous. The special lines for "members" (which I am one) serve absolutely no purpose. They should be abandoned. Another cash register would be helpful. The fact is it simply takes too long for each customer to get through the process of ordering+paying - especially when half the time is spent trying to figure out if the customer can use a "rewards" number - which often doesnt work.

Our first experience under the AMC flag was a huge disappointment. I doubt if I will return. My friends and I were frequent attendees when this was Sundance. Primarily, I enjoyed the adult food and beverage option with art house or big new blockbuster movies being shown side by side. It is a short Uber ride away from most of Seattle and so it was pretty ideal as an adult movie venue. The seats are still comfy. It is still and over 21 theater with no screaming kids , etc... However, the food and beverage service has changed substantially. The food is marginal pub fare; costs have gone up; and there is now a 2 beverage limit. For a 3-4 hour stay (1 hr prefunction; plus movie), 2 beers or 2 glasses of wine; or even 2 cocktails is overly restrictive for most adults in that time frame. In addition, it has lost the "boutique" ambiance and become more of a common mall Cineplex (yawn) with more previews ,higher prices, and definitely fewer amenities. Im afraid Ill be looking for a new venue for my dozen or so movies that I see a year . Sigh...

This was Sundance. Now it is AMC. From my perspective the service got worse and the prices went up. I fear the movies that are screened here will be less interesting as it falls in line with AMC and less with an independent theatre. Also, I agree with all the reviews that talk about the ridiculous line for the bar. Crazy long and slow lines. Managers solution was to bark at people in line to cozy up and close the space. I counted 3 tills and 8 people behind the counter. An empty "Premium Members" and "Snacks" line. Not blaming the staff, they were working hard, but they have to figure out how to bust those lines down faster. Yelling at us to stand closer together is not really a solution. Maybe have a mobile point of sale like In and Out for folks who want something simple like beer or wine. Bit of a tangent there, but waiting in a long slow line in a time sensitive context like before a movie start does matter.

AMC bought out the Sundance dine in cinema. Everything is pretty much identical inside. However the upstairs bar was closed. I went three times to the downstairs bad and counted 16 people in line the third time, and about 8pm last night 7/13/2017. There were 4 people behind the counter. The barkeep at the register was superb, and the cook was excellent. The popcorn maker had to be told twice to put butter on the popcorn and it still came without popcorn. The third woman did nothing much to help, and should have opened the second register. Also there should be a beer only line, and they did away with the 16 oz size beers. The theatre itself was clean and high quality. This is still my favorite local cinema, and I will come again. But they missed out on about half their revenue due to poor management of their employees. And why do you need 3 people checking tickets?

It used to be my favorite place to see a movie in Seattle. The drinks were expensive but it had a nice atmosphere, cheap movie tickets on Mondays, and I liked that it catered to an adult crowd. However, AMC acquired them and are in the process of AMC-ifying the theatre, installing commercial soda machines, butter dispensers. While this is objectively improving the theater, its taking away from the atmosphere. They charge a LOT for parking now, 8$ in the lot right north of them for 3 hours. Apparently this is a "deal" but its much more expensive. Its much better to find street parking a few blocks away & walking (just give yourself extra time for the movie. Since its becoming just a regular AMC I think Ill just go to the other theaters in the Seattle area for most movies from now on. Goodbye Monday movie nights!

Went to this theatre for the first time yesterday and LOVED IT!!! No kids, a good menu, comfy reserved seats, great movie selection, easy parking etc.... We are going back today to watch another movie! Update on this theater. Sundance is now owned and operated by AMC. What a change and what a disappointment. I dont think we will be back. The food was not made well, the people working there were not helpful. Its a 21 and over establishment so they will check your ID on the way in. Buying drinks at the bar they required to check your ID again which made no sense. Bought our ticket online and had it on our phone but they required you to print a paper ticket out. A waste of time and inconvenient when you are holding popcorn and a drink to get in to be told to print out a ticket.
