Ive been to Seattle, WA many times over the past 15 years and had never been to Gas Works Park. Before leaving for SEATAC for my flight home to Ontario, CA. my cousin recommended we visit the beautiful, scenic, multipurpose Gas Works Park to get some clear pictures of downtown Seattle. The park is mostly covered with grass and has a sloping hill facing downtown and waterfront. Park goers can sit and take in the surrounding beauty (The vacated gas works machinery and pipes that were left behind decades ago remind me of a Mad Max movie set. There is also bird and duck watching, sailboat watching and people watching). While walking through the grass and on the few paved trails around the park beware of duck and goose poop! It is abundant throughout the park. I recommend anyone looking for great views all around, and a peaceful place to relax and enjoy a picnic lunch (bring a blanket to spread open on the grass as there werent many picnic tables), stop and visit Gas Works Park.

I dont know what the deal was when I went today, or if this is a normal thing. The ratings seem to be pretty good here, which doesnt make sense to me because my expirience today made me want to never come back. I thought Id have a picnic with my best friend since its finally warming up. We arrived at the picnic tables to find that the place was taken over by homeless people. Trash was everywhere and we did not feel comfortable eating right across from tents... Perhaps the place is better during the summer when more people are around, but I dont recommend having a picnic on a slow day in winter or spring.

I noticed this place from the Space Needle top... I thought it is a gorgeous brown Palace surrounded by big green backyard.... (LOL my bad vision) Amazing thing happened... Thanks to my friend who lives in Seattle! Without any planning he drove us-tourists exactly to that place to watch sunset after visiting Space Needle. I discovered: Huge brown structure was not a Palace... it was The old Gasification Plant. Sunset time was wonderful there. We did not see sun itself but we saw Sunny road on the water. Downtown buildings windows reflected sun and made virtual golden road on the water.

I love the view sitting by the lake (Union) across from the reflecting city lights glistening on the water after dark. Some days there are events going on, all days are nice to watch kayakers, duck boats, yachts, and wildlife. Gasworks rusted structures are interesting, colorful structures are like a homeless hotel! Once youve seen them, no need to again when you go back, and you dont notice the little campsites otherwise. New playground, decent bathroom, very nice under cover bbq cooking area, fire pit, great for events/parties. Ample parking.

Sitting on top of some of the most chemically polluted soil in Seattle this land fill of a gem is a super spot not to go swimming and enjoy the graffiti. Watch where you step or lay a towel on a nice day as irresponsible pet owners love to take their dogs here to cop a squat. It has a great view of the water cops that have nothing better to do than yell at boats over the loud speaker for going over the speed limit. Make sure you use the restroom before you go here as the facilities are a chance to see how long you can hold your breath.

This park is small, but great. Beautiful views of Lake Union and the Seattle skyline, and nice little areas to walk through--including on the beach at some points. My only word of caution: When I was down there, I unknowingly stumbled upon the bum hideout that is the covered pipes area of the park. Apparently its sort of a campout for several homeless people. Not a knock against them, they gotta sleep somewhere--but not exactly family friendly. If you take yours kids to this park, you might be best advised to keep them close by.

Gas works park is one of the places which reflects the history of Seattle. Seattle government has acquired a rusty obsolete piece of land and converted it to a wonderful public recreational space. Gas works has many perks, including easy access, a panoramic view of the Seattle city skyline and an unobstructed view of the Space Needle. It would make for a perfect place for a family picnic with kids and dogs (leashed) on a sunny day. Also it is a perfect place to watch the fireworks at the Space Needle on New years eve.

Always beautiful no matter what day you visit the park. One of the three places that really speaks of Seattle to me regarding the flaky-and-clicking psudo-Seattlites and horrified traffic problems that might take another decades to fix. Bring your camera or smartphone, you can get amazing photos as well. P.S. Just a little disappointed by the massive among of visitors come here to smoke joints. I think it should be kept at private home, not a public park. Not everyone need to share that smells.

Like the name suggests, this is located on the site of an early 20th century natural gas conversion plant. Some of the machinery is still on site though fenced off. Situated on the north shore of Lake Union it provides an excellent view of the lake, its surrounding neighborhoods and downtown Seattle. Widespread grassy areas allow plenty of space for picnics. There is also a hill that is a popular space for kite flying. The park is a very popular place for Seattleites and its easy to see why.

Wow Wow Woww!!!!! I love how they tied something historical with a scene so breathtaking. Theres so much to see here. The mound on top of this circular upward maze where you see a 360 view of Seattle, the huge Gas... things (what are they??) laid throughout the park, and in this huge shed, the body of water where people kayak and paddleboard, the weddings going on there, the celebrations, the kickball games happening, the kites people are flying.. this seriously is a great place to visit!

If you visiting from out of town or want to go to a popular park, this is the one to bring that picnic blanket to. Known as an outdoorsy set of residents, its no wonder that this is the place to see Seattle out on the town - itd be too New York of us to want to be seen shopping at the theatre. But as such, its the park that can develop New-York-style crowds on sunny weekend afternoons. One of the early high-concept reclamation parks, its worth it to see what inspired the High Line.

The old gas refinery structures have been reclaimed to make a fun, funky backdrop that attracts everyone from sunset watching students from nearby UW to fire jugglers and parkour groups! Because of the old refinery, you CANNOT get in the water at this park - the sediment isnt safe. But theres plenty to do outside the water - the view of Lake Union and downtown Seattle at sunset cannot be missed!!! Pack up a picnic or just stroll through to enjoy one of Seattles most iconic parks!

Gas Works is one of those places that can be described as the constant adventure. Every time I visit I have another great and new experience. For starters there is the 4th of July and running into friends while exploring the transformed park, or kayaking and stopping by on the grassy hill. Gas Works is a location that lends itself to the adventures that are possible in life. If you live in Washington, this place is a must see.
