Appreciation of customers should be Jeffs first priority, not Appeal, Facilities, and Service, which are the labels "Review Reef Chief" put up for us to use to post reviews. I live in Hampton, one hour from my house to the Chief and have only had my 250g reef tank for 18 months. I have been in Reef Chief three times, the first time as I was checking out Jeff voluntarily walked up and told the cashier "give her 10% off". Very nice. The next two times I just picked out my corals and left very happy as Jeff had helped me and my "fish guy" pick out our purchases and then we went on our way. Then awhile later I was on HRRC and saw a post saying that he was closing. I called and asked him if what I read was true and he went berserk, asking me what the hell kind of thing was I spreading around, I assured him Id just read it and he was my first communication after reading the post, you know, I was just verifying because I wanted him to know that I hoped it wasnt true. Then he went on a rant about how I always tried to low-ball him, that I wasnt a regular customer, it got so ridiculous and he acted so spaced out that I put it on hands free because my "fish guy" was standing there wondering what in the world I was reacting to. Jeff was absolutely screaming and cussing me and out of control. I apologized for even calling, "fish guy" got on the phone and tried to reason with Jeff, he also apologized, and for what we apologized for is now not apparent to either of us, I think we were just trying to calm Jeff down but he just wouldnt stop, it went on for about 15 minutes. When Jeff realized I had it on hands free he finally quit and hung up. As I later found out Jeff himself is the person that posted that remark on HRRC but being not in on the "joke" I believed it. Three trips to Reef Chief at minimum of $500 spent each time. By the way Jeff, luckily Im in a financial position where I dont have to low-ball you, nor did I need your 10% although it was nice of you to do it. I just put you in my outbox here in the office along with one of my tenants, Chris at Reefer Dynamics. Get that joke?

I have been a loyal "buy local" customer for Jeff and his company Reef Chief. For a few years, I have enjoyed his knowledge, equipment and fantastic livestock. However, make sure you dont spend too much of his precious time, or call him if something dies a little more quickly than you would expect! He may just cuss a blue streak into you. I have spent thousands and would hope that would earn some loyalty from Jeff too. I will not be returning to Reef Chief again. Sadly.

Brian Cox. Best in the 757 hands down... I would like to make a comment on the first unhappy hobbyist that posted a one star rating.. If the Reef Chief or staff are busy helping others.. JUST TAKE A NUMBER ... The guy is the best Ive seen locally.. Hes not going to tell you what you want to hear ; hes going to tell you what works.

I used to frequent The Reef Chief when he was located in Virginia Beach. I had nothing but great experiences. It was a very "happy" place. The quality of his corals rivaled Dr Mac in MD. All his licvestock seemed healthy and well maintained. I cannot believe any of this has changed in the new location.
