When I heard Confederate White House I was thinking it would be similar in stature to our Current US White House and Im not gonna lie before I read the plaque I saw the Capitol Building and figure this was it. Sadly I was disappointed in much of the White House Tour and found the Museum much more interesting. First off its at the end of a historic street with great informative signs and really great architecture. The put off is the massive contemporary building built next to it. Really liked the Anchor, and other steel artifacts (not the colorful fish). Th tour prices caught me off guard. $15 per person for the dual access and white house tour. Audio at the museum was an extra $2, which if you have AAA is the discounted amount. Funny how that works out. Active duty gets a discount as well. Kids under a certain age, certain aged seniors as well. Due to the age the ventilation is classic, be prepared for a lot of standing, some of the things are really cool and interesting and others creepy. Perhaps a blueprint would have been better with all the rooms they have. The anecdotes and interesting facts didnt catch my attention, but perhaps that was the tour guide who I couldnt help but notice his pants and shirt were not his (2 sizes too big). The museum is much more well laid out with placards, glass, in a modern building and an audio tour available. Self guided to go at your own pace. Nothing wrong with the guide, but maybe 2 questions were asked our whole tour. The gift shop in the museum is full of trinkets, none worth buying. Swindled by the lady in the elevator of my hotel who told me this was a must see for Richmond. There were a dozen other museums I should have checked out or perhaps just done the museum audio tour.

The last time I had a guided tour of the White House the guide, presumably something like a retired hairdresser or accountant, made a fatuous comment that was deeply offensive. He said that one of President Daviss descendants lived in Texas which was in the west. As a native Texan I found this un-historic and insulting. Texas may not be Mississippi but then neither is Virginia, the top third of which is now about as un-Southern as one can get. I protested to the CEO but got nowhere although the exchange of letters was interesting in showing a lack of historical perspective and sensitivity of understanding. Geographic changes in the old Confederacy are not limited to Texas: has anyone on the staff of the W.H. ever visited Florida, north Georgia or Oklahoma, not to mention northern Virginia? Why the W.H. should employ people who make comments that annoy guests, and guests who want to leave money in their wills, is beyond my understanding. J.E.B. Munson, M.A., D. Phil. (Oxon.)

As a student, I was hoping for a student discount. They do not have any. The museum was nice, it was a self guided tour. Walking though the museum I came across 3 floors filled with primarily civil war clothing and guns. It was nice to see the maps about the civil war battles. There are many versions of the confederate flag on the third floor. The tour of the White House was very nice. It was a good length of time and covered a great amount of history. I would recommend coming here if you are an older person, young child or someone interested in the civil war. For me, I was a little bored of the museum after the first floor of the museum. For the price, I wished it was a little cheaper. I enjoyed the White House tour very much.

This was very interesting. All of it. Hayden was our tour guide and he was great. Incredibly I formed and knowledgeable about Jefferson Davis and the tour of the Confederate White House. An interesting part of our history that I dont think as many people are aware of as they should be. I hope everyone finds a way to take a tour through this mansion. The museum was nothing special, just the same as any other Civil War museum. There arent any notable artifacts that they have there that make it special. I was hoping they would have the bonnet they captured Jefferson Davis in, but no. :)

If you have any interest in the Confederacy as an institution this is a must see. The "white house" tour is very well done, and the house has an incredible amount of originals. Its a fantastic portrait of how one of the greatest American traitors (or patriots) lived on a day to day basis. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, but also knew when not to answer questions, because she was not an expert, which is equally important. Highly recommended.

I moved to Richmond Virginia from Northern New Jersey Bergen County in 1980 and I am totally sick of the capital of the Confederacy crap every time I have to go to MCV I shake my head at the stupidity of capital of the Confederacy building the Civil War is over. When our son comes home from grade school talking about the war of Northern aggression we can only shake our heads and correct him.

The tour of the White House was exceptional. Never felt rushed and details were in just the right amount. The conductor of the tour was black and handled the whole tour with professionalism rarely seen. He was attentative to all questions (our group has children in their mothers arms thru 95 years) and never rushed answers to questions from any of the attendees. A must see tour.

I did a tour of the civil war battlefields, Gettysburg, Antietam, Bull run and Harpers ferry this summer and I must Admit The Museum of the Confederacy was at the top of the list. The tour of the White house was awesome, but the Museum was incredible with all the Battle flags and artifacts. Having some family ties to General Sterling Price, seeing his sword was great.

Its fantastic with the best collection of civil war artifacts around..the flags are unbelievable and the mansion is breathtaking. The tour guide was good but could have been a little nicer. He seemed to think we all should know certain things..he was funny and entertaining but could have been more patient. Not everyone has worked there for 18 yrs.

There was nothing impressive about "The White House" expect the history as it was a dull house. The museum and tour prices are a bit high if you do them both, so I only did the tour. Other than that, its nice to see the other side of history. But they have free parking at the VCUHS patient visitor parking garage.

As a member of the military, I received free admission. However, I feel like the actual admission is a little high for what they have, though what they have is nice. The main exhibit is a timeline of the famous battles. The house is an additional fee, but the tour guide was both knowledgeable and entertaining.
