I maintain a membership despite living in New Jersey. My favorite aspect of membership is getting to use the research library when I visit. Getting to read personal accounts of historical figures during the civil war deepens my interest in the subject. My perspective of Civil War history has become much more personal after reading eyewitness accounts, IN THEIR OWN HANDWRITING! The displays in the museum are also wonderful. One can experience the uniqueness of Virginias history here, especially Richmonds.

Place is decent for a compact museum. It holds an incredible amount of treasures to be discovered by its visitors, child to retirees there is something for everyone. From the outside, you would assume to be lost in time inside but with a decent walk around and in-depth reading of items you can spend 5 hours and be educated about Virgina and a few other exhibits.

Beautiful, and informative ( ok, it is history- so sometimes the beauty is subjective or hidden). Wonderful static exhibits, and they do a great job rotating exhibits, also. If you are a student remember your id! There is a discount. Overall, I think everyone should check it out.

seemed to have a serious left wing bias. celebrates pro choice activists, criticizes whites account of pocohantas etc. some decent paintings/murals

Being a simple walk away from the Fine Art museum this gem is 100% worth the walk over. Very engaging exhibits.
