Ive been coming to this recreation center ever since I was little. I took swimming lessons from multiple teachers. I did ice skating lessons and performances with various students. I also had the opportunity to take tennis lessons and participate in a tennis competition with my classmates. When I got a bit older, I had the chance to take Zumba and yoga classes for a certain amount of time. There are so many learning opportunities given to you at this recreation center. There is a variety of membership cards available for purchase. I had the "highest" card (premium maybe? not sure anymore) for over ten years and my family always used it to great use. The membership card gave us discounts on lessons, free entrance into the outdoor and indoor swimming pools, ice skating rink admission and rentals were free, and more. We could also reserve racquetball courts and tennis courts for no extra charge. It may be a bit pricey, but if you use the card to your advantage, it is totally worth it. I currently do not have a membership with this rec center because my siblings and I have gotten older and have had less time to take recreational lessons; also, my family believed we werent using it enough to make up for the cost, so we just ended the membership. I mostly come here to work out in their nice weight-lifting and cardio room now. I dont work out at the rec center often though because I have to pay about $5 every time I come here. The weights room is fully stocked and at certain times, it is not busy at all. The machines in the cardio room look clean and sturdy. I havent had any problems with both rooms yet. Overall, I dont have many complaints about this place. The place is clean, big, harbors many opportunities, has a friendly environment, and has informed staff to answer all of your questions. Ive been coming here for years and have experienced various different opportunities given by the rec center, and each opportunity had been worth my time. Cottonwood Heights Rec Center is as good as it gets :)

Im thankful they have a rink, and that its so close to my home. However, for those going to play hockey, beware that the locker rooms are frightfully small. So small, in fact, that you have to rush to get dressed so others can squeeze in after you. Actually, sometimes people will just give up on that nightmare and get dressed in public seating areas instead. What disappoints me most is how the staff tends to treat female hockey players. They make terribly inaccurate assumptions about how many women are going to show up to play, and only unlock one, tiny locker room (it would fit 3 girls kinda-not-really comfortably; any more than that and you have a girl getting ready in the shower while another is hugging the sink)... then when you go to ask them to open another room, they scoff and take their time getting downstairs with the key or they just forget about you altogether. I also wish theyd enforce their rules on the ice during scheduled Stick & Puck events; you know, like the one about no drills being allowed. I mean, theres a coach that frequents the rink, and hes always taking up *at least* a quarter of the ice practicing with his team, hogging a net, and just making it generally unpleasant for everyone. With the number of people paying to be there on a regular basis, itd be cool if their employees cared a little more. On another note, I watch many of the mens rookie league hockey games and a few of the referees who are employed by or volunteer at Cottonwood act like a bunch of 12 year olds—doing things like repeatedly trying to see who can blow their whistle the loudest, or yelling so loud at players that their immaturity and poor attitudes can be heard from the back row of the stands. Overall, if youre looking for a better hockey experience (at least), go to Acord, Murray, or the Oval.

Overall rating is 3 stars. Breakdown below: Customer Service: 1 star. Calling the number on their website takes you to a really long recorded message that doesnt give you any information thats not on the website. Entering codes the message tells you to enter gives an "invalid code" message. Finally just hit 0 to get to someone, was transferred to someone else who apparently wasnt there and had to leave a voicemail. Very unhelpful. Customer Service In Person: 4 stars. Once I actually got there in person they were fairly helpful. The person at the desk seemed to have no interest in taking care of the long line quickly, but the other two persons I dealt with were friendly and helpful, and even went out of their way to answer my questions. Facilities: 4 stars. They hit all the basic points of a rec center - pools, lifting room, cardio room, locker rooms, ice rink, etc. Their weight room isnt super-impressive; not very many free-weights and they only go up to 60lbs, and a smattering of machines that cover the basics but wont satisfy the hardcore weight-lifter (e.g. no free squat rack, just a Smith). Cardio room is good, just a bit stuffed with machines so theres not a lot of elbow room. Locker rooms are good but also not very roomy. Ice rink seemed fine (though I havent used it) and the options for swimming laps seem quite sufficient. Overall, its a decent place but they make a horrible first impression. Parking can also be pretty annoying, and the wristbands arent great either.

I am never coming back to this place. I am 19 years old and came to this pool with my other 19 year friend. We were there for about 15 minutes, and as we were sitting by the pool at a table, 3 lifeguards came over to us. They said they had had a complaint that our swimsuits were too revealing, and we would need to cover up because this is a "family place." This is the most sexist and rude thing that has ever happened to me. We were both wearing normal black bikinis. Why were we singled out against all the other women wearing bikinis? Why is okay for men to wear speedos but somehow our bikinis are too revealing. I will never go back to this sexist and discriminatory place.

This review is only for the outdoor pool, as it is the only part of the facility that we checked out. I was disappointed by the height and age restrictions on the water slides and the platform diving boards. No kids under 48" can go on the water slides, even with an adult, and no kids can go off of any of the platform dives unless they are 10 years old, regardless of their ability to swim. We went there with our family because of these features, which we were unable to use. The parking lot for the pool area is way too small too. We had to find a spot at the middle school around the corner and walk a distance. We are not likely to return.

I was solidly disappointed with this place. The people working there were stern and disappointed we were there. They wont recognise my family Of 3 because Im divorced and remarried - per their rules "a family must be related" The rules were arbitrary, Sitting on a concrete slab while supervising kids was not okay, but leaning on it was okay. I was supervising 2 10yrd children indoors without cost, outdoors it was with cost. They also closed down the outdoor pool for 4 hours for SLIGHTLY cloudy weather. While I understand the safety of shutting down due to weather, it was uncalled for in the circumstance.
