When I arrived at the Phoenix Saloon, there were 6-8 bar customers and about 4 tables with customers. Food has to be ordered from the bar, so I took my menu to the bar... and waited... and waited...... finally, the bar-maid waited on the couple next to me... then went back to her regular bar customers. I waited some more, thinking I would get noticed since there was no other customers close to me, and I was standing holding a MENU! I took into consideration that she had customers, regulars, who you kiss a$$ for and ignore all else. My order would have taken 15 seconds of her time, but she was unable to spare it. I stood there for about ten minutes,. ... when she decided to make another regular a drink and not take my order ( for 3 people ) I was done. I have no idea how the food was since I was not able to get waited on. She was not friendly, no hello or "Ill be right there... ordering food?"... nothing. I left without eating, and since it is now 9pm on a Tuesday in NB, I have missed my chance to eat. I have not been ignored like this in quite some time. Having over a decade in the bar business as a bartender and finally bar owner, I gave every consideration and excuse to this Saloon.. they chose not to wait on my party. No other explanation.

We were in for drinks and burgers around 8pm. They had a girl on stage playing guitar. The performance was wonderful but the acoustics of the saloon are honestly awful, and really took away from her talent. If youre specifically going to see a band, Id wait for the next venue. The food was good, not excellent like some restaurant/bars are on the square. We ordered chili cheese fries, the blue cheese burger, and the white shirt burger. The chili was great but the chunks of beef instead of ground beef was a little odd to me. Especially when Im trying to eat my chili cheese fries with my fingers (like a heathen, I know) and I cant get a good bite of all three. The blue cheese burger was kind of dry and my husband said he couldnt taste or see any blue cheese (its supposed to be stuffed inside), my burger was moist but I ordered a double-shot and it ended up being too spicy for me (oops). I usually like spicy foods but I was under the impression that the chili seasoning had different levels of spicy-ness when really they just threw a bunch of chopped fresh peppers on top of the cheese. Our friends from in town love this place but we tried several other places on the square that wed rather go to.

Skip this place. Its become a dump full of wannabes and fake country hipsters trying to find where they belong. Their drinks are way overpoured and they charge you hard for that. The floor is greasy and the capacity of this place needs to be re-evaluated by NBFD. Order anything from the menu and it will take an hour to get to you. Like girls? Great. Be prepared for an entire bar full of married white women throwing their drinks on each other,"accidentally," and snorting from laughter until they pass out. Guys are no better. Hair gel and shiny shirts with no clue why they are there. Got a girlfriend? Dont bring her here my friend, treat her right, and take her elsewhere. Do yourself a favor, dont go here. This isnt a dive, and its far from historic at this point. I had the worst experience here with three friends and the noise was unbearable. The staff shouldve done something about some unruly guests on the other side of the bar, but began mocking them and only made it worse. Thankfully, we quietly made our own exit. Plenty of nicer locations in walking distance my friend. They had a good thing going years ago. Not now...

My first time at the Phoenix Saloon and it was a good one, for a second I was a bit confused but a friendly bartender educated me that there is no table service since they dont employ a wait staff. You order everything at the bar but they do bring your order out to your table or wherever you sitting. I saw a couple outside and they took their food to them which I thought was nice, I will have to remember that next time Im in town and when the weather cools down a bit. Food was great, best Chili Dog I have eaten and the sweet potato wedges (I dont think Ive had fries quite this good) were amazing especially with some dipping sauce they recommended. They have a good selection of draft beer and from what I could tell a good selection of liquor so you should be able to get anything a full service bar can offer. Anyway, my overall experience was a good one and I will recommend this place to my friends when they come to town.

What a great place to be. The Phoenix Saloon has been revived in style. This building has a lot of history and the owners have kept so much of it in the remodel to make it feel like a Saloon, great job. Long bar, huge bar back, lots of exotic beer on tap, and of course all the liquor you can drink. The food is EXCELLENT, burgers, hot dogs, CHILI (this is the building Gebhardt Chili was invented in), you can get it mild or extremely hot. They have a BLT that is wonderful, and the chicken sandwich is also a treat. We have eaten here often and NEVER had a badly cooked meal. They have 2 stages for live music, almost every night of the week, Thursday is karaoke, big screen for movies and sports. Large dance floor in front of each stage so you always have room to get your groove on. A must see when visiting downtown New Braunfels.

My parents told me about this place and went to check it out. It was a drive to get there from my location, but figured since I was heading that way anyway that I would give it a shot. First glance from the outside, considering where it was at, was most aesthetically unwelcome. Upon entering, it was unfortunate to see the layout. Please understand this next part: We were told beforehand that you need to go up to the bar and order. This is not a sit down and wait for the waiter type of place. I had ordered the "ring of fire" chili on my burger (because I like my chili very spicy). The order came within a reasonable time. I was amazed. The chili was fantastic, so much so that I needed to copy the recipe. I was able to see and taste which ingredients were used. I highly recommend people to try this place out.

Nice place to visit! Plenty of room at the bar and tons of tables to sit at. Theres always good food being served and a good selection of craft beer and Texas beer to choose from on tap! A little spendy but well worth it as the service is fantastic and you are well taken care of. Ive had the chili, chili fries and burgers . All worth the little bit of a wait. The kitchen area is open to see so you can look over and see food being prepared, the only thing that comes out of the basement is the secret spice recipe. Met some very neat locals here! Plus theres live music with a stage and dance floor. Also I like theres no smoking inside! Its also within walking distance of some other places. I got tshirts but they were out of tank tops
