We joined for the opportunity to swim year-round and learned after joining the large slide is almost always closed, the pool is always divided into lanes and roped off into sections (with the swim team using up half the pool in the evenings for practice-the other pool on the side of the bldg. is exclusively for swim lessons and never open to the public), kids must pass a swim test each time they want to swim in the 6ft deep sections even though pool rules require swimming with a parent, and no floats are allowed. Its not really designed for open swim fun. The swim tests are administered by any staff present, including teenagers, and depend on their perception and individual standards for passing. My sons friend was forever traumatized by failing the test one day after he was told that his arm motions werent large enough as he was swimming forward. My son failed one time because he took breaths forward instead of turning his head to the side as the professionals do. It is an extremely controlled and strict environment..and not for everyone. The gym has MANY unmarked non-working TVs on the aerobic machines that have been broken for months so check the TV before you choose a machine, if you can find an available one as the Y gets crowded in the evenings. Also, make sure you understand the cell phone rules as you are not allowed to text or make calls in the gym or in classes. You must go into the hall and I overheard staff getting onto many members about this. There are signs posted everywhere reminding members of this rule should you forget. The final straw for us and the reason we cancelled was the rude, dismissive, condescending attitude of the director. Another reviewer mentioned $75 per month...we paid $88 for a family membership.

Weve visited this Y as an alternative to the Westheimer location. We have only used the exercise equipment and free weights. The patrons are nice and the staff are too. Things are clean and others seem cognizant of your presence. The only issue Ive had with the YMCA of Houston overall, is similar to the pool issues others have had - ours is the use of the training rooms. My sons have been practicing both with bo staffs and other martial arts (and that for several years), other than what the Y sponsors. There are times that the practice rooms are empty but they dont allow anyone to use them unless youre signed up for one of the classes, and even then you can only use it when an instructor is there. Thats not about liability thats pushing a product and is NOT fair. If you pay to use the facility, you should be able to use it without incurring further expense or going through unnecessary "hoops". Someone needs to rethink their policy and realize not everyone is the same and some young people are more disciplined that others.

We use the Clay Rd. Location mostly for the heated indoor pool. My mother had back surgery and has C.O.P.D. so diffIculty breathing and exercising can be a problem. She can however do aqua aerobics andv swim for more than an hour without any difficulty. Her cardiologist said that exercise is nearly equivalent to have a cardiac stress test, and he was very pleased. NOT TO CONFUSE ANYONE; THIS DOESNT MEAN THAT YOU CAN AVOID HAVING CARDIAC TESTING IF YOUR DR. REQUIRES YOU TO, SO PLEASE DON`T TAKE THESE STATEMENTS AS MEDICAL ADVICE. The Langham Creek location is where we signed up though, and the staff at both locations are just phenomenal. My mother was ill for two months with bronchitis and my husband had surgery so he also missed using the facility for a lengthy amount of time. The staff at the Langham Creek location said that we would qualify for a refund due to health concerns. Myself, I have lost nearly 30 pounds doing aqua aerobics. Great staff and great immediate attention in regards to any concerns.

My kids are in the day camp and they always love to be there since four years ago. But this year, they are letting me know that many of the activities that they suppose to have are not happening. The new young counselors are not having the activities with the kids like capture the flags, stem, archery and arts and crafts. Instead, they are hanging with each other of them and be on their phone majority of the time and letting the kids just run around in the pavilion gym and studio. I think this is not fair because I am paying a lot of money weekly for them to be having productive activities at ymca instead of being at home watching tv and boring. I hope the director take actions about this situation very soon. Otherwise, I will have to take them out of that place. They dont let the kids bring electronics which I think is fine, but they have to be a good example for the kids instead of being ignoring them just being in their own phone.

Its a pretty good place for a work out or a class. Big negative is the pool. Its connected to the kiddy pool and all the nastiness that floats from there. Its out doors which is fine but they are just itchy to close it down the second a black cloud floats by and will say its because of thunder even though nobody hears it but them. So after about ten trips to swim and only able to swim twice I went to Clay road pool which is MUCH better if not further away. There the pool is separate from kiddy pool, adult section is CLEAN, and never closes for rain. So if you are looking for a good swim, dont go here...looking for a decent workout area, its okay but even on this point broken machines stay broken for a long time....

Fun, family-oriented, friendly place. Antibacterial wipes and spray are provided - and the germaphobe part of me does like to wipe down machines before and after. Childcare workers are friendly and my kids like it. I like how the area is glassed in and children are separated by age - no more big kids trampling my babies like at previous gyms! Spin and swim classes vary in quality depending on the instructor, as do the youth sport programs. So far weve been pleased with all. If you want a place with 5-star amenities it may not be the best, but for a low-key, upbeat environment I love it!

The customer service at this location is poor. Ive been standing second place in line to get checked-in as an away member for 20 minites and there are several others waiting behind me. There are only two staff people working the front desk who seem inexperienced - they keep stopping and seeking advice from other staff which takes up a lot of time. They probably need more staff at the front counter to accomodate customers.

Beautifully landscaped fields and playgrounds and plenty of room for kids to play outside in a safe environment. Newly renovated swimming pool area. Lots of activities and camps for children & adults to participate. Staff is always friendly and helpful. Patrons are also friendly, courteous and looking out for the kids. Awesome child care room and huge fitness & weight training area.

Needs to be updated....BADLY! I worked out at the Cypresswood Y and that one is SO MUCH BETTER and cleaner. The staff at Langham Y are very friendly and helpful, but the gym is too hot, it smells bad and there is no towel service like the one at Cypresswood. Also, I did not see one person wipe down their machines after they were done using them. GROSS!
