I am a HUGE fan of art museums, and contemporary art is one of my favorites, so I was excited to see that this museum was on the list for the Houston City Pass. Getting to the museum is a relatively pain in the rear process, but once I got there I was really looking forward to a nice afternoon viewing all of the contemporary art. What I found was a small, and underwhelming collection of art. It took me less than two hours to complete the entire museum, and in my opinion is wasnt worth the trip. The cafe food was lifeless and way overpriced. Do yourself a favor, choose something else in your City Pass to enjoy, and ONLY do this one if you have some spare time.

Yknow, I pay to be a member of the MFAH, and the Contemporary Arts Museum is always free, but I think I might sneakingly like the CAM better. I never know what Im going to get when I visit - I have only once or twice visited intentionally for a specific exhibition - but I dont ever feel like my time is wasted. Some of the things I think about for years afterward. And, in addition to the exhibition space, they have one of the best little museum shops ever, crammed in under the stairs. No, you cant waste your time if you visit the CAM - therell be SOMETHING to enjoy, and odds are it will be everything.

No se puede decir que el arte contemporáneo este representado en éste lugar, únicamente se encontraran piezas de arte postconceptual que básicamente no entiende nadie. El 95% de lo que hay aquí es basura y aunque sea gratis, sigue siendo basura.

The museum shop downstairs is a great place to find well-designed gifts for your cultured friends and a lot of fun just to browse. A lot of unusual alternatives to desk sets to hold your pens, flower buds, staplers etc. line the cases. The childrens plush toys have a European style and the childrens books emphasize beauty and are mentally stimulating. Their purses, jewelry, accessories, ties, and art/design books all make good gifts.

Deplorable. What do you expect in an ugly cowtown like Houston? These dumb rednecks really think they got em some culture here. A scrap yard contains more interesting "art." What a depressing waste of space in such a nice building. One "sculpture" exhibit featured a stack of plastic fire logs wrapped with christmas lights that flashed on and off. The intellectually corrupt morons who curate this kind of crap should be prosecuted.

Very cool place with thought provoking exhibits. Theres only two floors, so a limited collection of items on display. However, its nice that many of their pieces are interactive. Its good to visit because its free but Its not something Id spend money on. Could spend less than an hour there. Parking is free along side roads. Gift shop is super cool with unique finds.

Small, but worth the trip. Saw an interesting conversation with a Houston photographer, along with a gallery of her work. There was also a breast cancer sculpture exhibit, an algorithm produced pattern drawing exhibit, and a huge exhibit with rolls of recycled paper in the shape of the ocean. Check it out while visiting the museum district.

The upstairs this past week was incredible. This place is a must see for those who are interested in something differnat, while also on a budget. I would subject parking across from the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, and then just pop in there quick before you explore more. Its not very large, but its free and worth seeing.

An honor to those who involved themselves in arts. Everything surround us are art, we almost forget. These artists try their best to bring them alive, nevertheless they might bury themselves in this utilitarianism society. So, set our demanding mind aside, open our heart to these arts and feel them.

It is a free (donation) museum. It is smaller so you can dart in if you only have a short time to spend. The shows vary a lot. Have seen wonderful things and things that made me scratch my head. But thats a good thing. Contemporary art is often made to make you think or unsettle you in some way.

Ive seen some really fascinating exhibits here, and some that I didnt relate to at all. What is great about this museum is that it is free and right next to the Museum of Fine Arts. It is a perfect place to pop into after the MFAH because it is modestly sized and brings you back to the present.

I have been a few times and most of the exhibition are very interesting. Great gift shop and awesome location. This and MFAH & Sculpture Garden all at the same corners of Montrose and Bissonnet. You can make a day or weekend out of seeing what these places have to offer.

As of May 2016, the lower level is being renovated, so there is only one gallery on the main floor featuring one artist. Quick trip (less than an hour), and all modern art. Always great to find a free museum though, and some of the pieces were pretty interesting.

Es un museo pequeño pero atractivo a la vista, esta vez solo tenia una exposición muy corta pero bastante interesante

Entry is free with no food or drinks allowed beyond front desk. Contemporary art is available to be viewed on floor level as well as downstairs. This is a very small museum compared to MFA, but it is free and within walking distance from parking and the MFA.

Pretty interesting exhibits usually. When I went they had an exhibit on artistic grills for your mouth. Some of the stuff is a little too artistic for my taste, but its a great place to go if youre looking for something to do and dont have any money

Not a very big place with loads of works of art. However, it is always free. I thought it was fun that they had likes placed in the middle so you could move and put wherever you prefer to show you liked the work of art.

A great place to explore the human mind through artistic expression. I just wish there was more staff to assist you if you have a question or would like to know more about a specific artist. Otherwise a great place.

Love the way the place is laid out, with an almost secret entrance. Always cool and interesting art installations to check out. And it operates on donations so worth your time.

Very good entertainment and it doesnt cost anything to get in. 2 levels and sometimes interactive pieces. Im not much of an art expert, but the pieces are interesting.

Its a neat place to visit every once in a while. The art can be hit-or-miss, but at least its free. They have fun events periodically, too. Even the gift shop is fun.

If you like contemporary art, its a good place to go. Not every exhibit is going be spectacular, but its great that theyre giving these artists a place to show.

Free admission and based on donations. Located diagonally across MFAH Current artwork this summer 2016 is Mark Flood and Flow by Jae Ko. I personally liked Flow.

A beautiful place inside and out. I loved everything I saw, but I spent most of my time in the gift shop because I wanted to buy everything that was there! Haha!

Nice museum, though very small and only 1 artists work on display. Free all the time, so if you like contemporary art or the current artists work its fantastic!
