Potentially great museum/event venue being held back by horrible management/staff. Dont even think about having a event there. I own a events and production company that produces over 200 events per year(ranging from 20 people, up to 15,000 person festivals). We helped out with a small event at the Buffalo Soldiers Museum(I saw it as a chance to scout out a potentially new location for events.) I scouted out the location, and found it severely lacking. First problem: Only one hour allotted to set up for a dinner of 50. So the time frame was really rushed, and I had to hire/bring more people than normal to be able to get everything done in time. That heavily increased costs of the event. Second problem: No really good way to load into, or out off, the building. We had to either carry everything up a steep flight of stairs(that has no landing at the door at the top of the stairs, which mandated having a person just stand there, and hold the door open(additional cost)) outside the front of the building.(extremely dangerous with hot trays of food, and heavy equipment), or go to the side entrance, around a corner to a elevator, up to the second floor, then DOWN another set of steep stairs!!(slightly less dangerous than the first option.) Third problem: Incompetent, power hungry, staff The staff had no idea what had been contracted for the event.(tables chairs, etc. had not been set up, they had no idea where things were, etc.) When we asked about them, the staff were rude, and aloof. After we got everything set up, I decided to try to check out the other event spaces of the building, in case I could recommend the building for some of my clients. The staff then proceeded to tell me, "NO! you cannot be in this room!!!!"(I have NEVER had any other event space in Houston not want to show other spaces to paying customers! Most of the other ones that we use are usually falling over backwards to show off their space, in order to generate more business.) Fourth: No support equipment/facilities This may be another staff issue, but a attendee at the event wanted to show a slide show. NO ONE on staff even attempted to show where the outlets were, where to project to, and there was not a projector screen/surface to be found anywhere! There also was no Kitchen to stage/prep food. and the bathrooms are inefficient for more than 50, or so, people. The building is not set up any real events management, and the staff is lacking in customer service skills, and knowledge of their own facility. Needless to say, I will not recommend the building to any of my clients, and since the way the events side is run is mediocre, I expect the museum,(which I saw a little part of), to be mediocre also.

This was my very first visit to the Buffalo Soldiers Museum and I anticipated the visit up until I met the non customer service having Manager as she called herself. As everyone filtered in the doors of the museum she watched with an Eagle eye as if someone was trying to get over on the business. May have been a better experience had she not been so negative. Maybe in about 10 years or so theyll have better management in place. Just keep in mind that not all African American is out to get over on society. Thanks and have a great day!!!

Cant take pictures of the exibits, not that you would want to. Four-five room of random artifacts with little to no context. The museum lacks any clear focus and has little purpose. Has a petition to pardon some black troops who were executed in the 1910s, utterly fails to give any background and what info they did have was presented on the results of five minutes in Word and a home printer. Embarrassing amateur museum. Black troops deserve a museum actually capable of presenting their story in a coherent and engaging manner

I have heard several good things about Buffalo Soldier. Unfortunately, Im having a hard time gathering information for my family to attend. I called two days in a row and information hasnt been provided. There wasnt anyone available to speak to me who knew the information either. My father is Retired US Army and loves Buffalo Soldier. We thought it would be a good idea for our family reunion and werent aware of the additional fees for the reenactments. My family may not even get to see it and they have traveled so far.

This museum is rich in history and charm! Expect a humble establishment with gems throughout the museum. In fact, see if you can find the following: 1. What year were African Americans allowed to join the military? 2. How and where did the term "Buffalo Soldier come from? 3. Had the Buffalo Soldiers not existed, what effect could that have had on American society? 4. Name one Native American Tribe that were considered Buffalo Soldiers? Enjoy this piece of history many will never know!

My family and I truly love The Buffalo Soldiers Museum. Visted with my grandson & husband an Air Force veteran. To watch the proud look on my husbands face and the excitement and enthusiasm of my grandson was worth it! The time spent exploring the exhibits and listening as the story teller educated us on our history, left us speechless and extremely proud of what The once Unsung heros "Buffalo Soldiers accomplished for our country". Please dont miss this fantastic part of our history.

Buffalo Soldiers National Museum is a great place for families to step into a time machine and witness the great contributions of African-America soldiers throughout history. There are many pictures, exhibits and periodically historical reenactments for your viewing pleasures. Also the museum is free on Thursdays along with the other museums in the museum district. Accessible by light rail if you dont mind walking one to two blocks.

You owe it to yourself to check this place out! African Americans have such a rich history and establishments like this ensure that future generations wont forget our story. Its also a great venue to use for an event. The Houston Area Urban League recently held their Casino Night fundraiser here. Support this business!

I liked the tour. The staff was friendly and informative. They do a great job in showing how people of African descent have made great contributions in making our country great. Most of the information that they share will not be taught in our school systems; but it is a part of our history.

It was great to learn about not only the Buffalo Soldiers but how they were connected in history to other military regiments. The museum and artifacts came to life through our tour guide Captain who kept things educational and engaging. Definitely a place to visit when in Houston!

A man gave an EXCELLENT 20-30 minute live theatrical reenactment. Truly great and entertaining amateur acting, definitely the best part of the museum. Staff were friendly, attentive, and eager to answer any questions and have a discussion.

Thoroughly enjoyed the history of our soldiers and the Underground Railroad presentation. I had no idea the trail also went South into Mexico. Learned a lot and where to donate antique tools. You guys are great. Thank you
