Absolutely love this place. The collections are wonderful and worth paying for, but they also have family days a few times a year when you can go for free. Weve been on July 4 when they had a fife and drum band and someone in costume reading the Declaration of Independence; on election weekend when they were running a colonial-style election; weve seen some of the hidden sides of furniture, when they had drawers pulled out and certain items turned over to show labels and more, and weve been on special days like at Christmastime for the candlelight tours and on Mothers Day, when it was free for mothers. Oh, and one excellent visit had every room done up for a different holiday - there was Easter, Christmas and Thanksgiving, but also celebrations like christenings, weddings, Valentines Day, and more. EVERY visit is different and every one is enjoyable. And in recent years with the new gift shop it just gives me an excuse to stay longer!

They have remodeled and rebuilt the swingy bridge to the Hogg Mansion and Gardens.It is beautiful, with stained wood and a more secure feeling, without losing the bounce! Absolutely stunning gardens: secluded inside of the city, with gorgeous foilage and towering, mature trees. I have never seen such massive Magnolias! The sculptured gardens are reminiscent of England. There are bathrooms in the little visitor building where you pay the small price of $7.50 per person for the garden tour. The mansion tour is another price. Well worth it..spectacular view between the back of the mansion and thr fountain. Total immersion in quiet and noble beauty, you forget you are tucked inside the city of Houston. Little benches everywhere. If you want a peaceful interlude from reality, go way back in time and place and walk the gardens. This tour literally becomes otherwordly and affords an escape from even your own self.

September is not a good time to go. Even though the garden is decent, there were no flowers anywhere except where you park (next to the green house). The place was under renovation, so there are places are blocked off, scaffolding, and giant dirt patch where the steps in the back use to be. I normally wouldnt be so disappointed, but my friend and I have been turned back several times in the past two years, because it was almost 4 oclock or due to weather. After paying full price for admission we were told the bridge is under construction, and to drive around to the back. Still excited, we made our way to green bushes next to green grass, and dirt. Nothing really nice, like from the reviews or pictures seen online. I guess the only good time to go is in spring/or events.

Located in the heart of the subdivision River Oaks, Bayou Bend is a wonderful place to come see one of Americas art museum gems. The house tour will open your eyes to early american (colonial) decorative arts. Each room is set up as a different time period. Learn a little about Ima Hogg, the lady who lived on this property. I would suggest scheduling a docent tour. Staff is incredibly friendly, especially the guards. The best time to come and see the property is in March when the azaleas bloom. Look up: Bayou Bend Collection on YouTube and you will find many short clips of people here.

The best time to go is mid March when the azaleas bloom. The rest of the year is more green than flowery, but I never regret going. Whenever I come here, I just fantasize bout being able to live there with such an amazing garden as my back yard. The lawn is beautiful from the house, and several of the trees are amazingly enormous and stately. The house tour isnt really worth the money, but you could do it once just to say you did.

The fantastic 1.5 hour "study tour" really allows you to get up close with the history, significance and importance of bygone cultures. During the tour you will be encouraged to ask about the furniture, home architecture, art and garden details that most interest you. You get a glimpse of life in Houston during its early years and a taste for American industrialization, Southern formality and Texas frontier lifestyle.

This place is, in my opinion, the most beautiful and stunning location in Houston.The best time to go is during their azalea and tulip season, which is early March. This is when the garden is in full bloom and youre able to experience it fully. Its such a lovely place to go on a date, read a book, or anything really. Its a historical gem in Houston, and one not to be missed out on.

Great place to spend a couple of hours, the gardens are nice but the house and its collections are the winners, it really gives you an insight to how folks lived in the past and the guides on hand know their stuff and are able to point out interesting facts not on the pamphlets, they also provide an audio tour.

It used to be a beautiful garden. It looks like the people are not taking good care of it, the front of the house used to be green and covered with grass. Not anymore, lots of green not many flowers any more and entry went up

Great outdoor views. Especially the Buffalo Bayou Bridge that you have to cross to get to the place. It is nice to take a stroll during spring. Other than that the house is typical Victorian style with a few interesting rooms.

Bayou Bend is a great place to take family and friends when theyre in Houston. The tour of the house is worth the nominal donation/fee. The best time to visit Bayou Bend is March, when the azaleas are in bloom.

My family and I went and as soon as we got back out to leave, all our purses (4 purses) were stolen. Our window got broken into, glass was everywhere, and the parking lot didnt have any cameras.

These are seriously beautiful grounds. Come here for a relaxing stroll through the gardens. The house is amazing as well, with amazing detail in every room.
