My family decided to go to Sandy Lake Park to relive our childhood summers at Hockley Park. We went on Saturday, it was 108 degrees and this small out dated park was not what I imagined. First the office where they conduct “business” looked like something from Napoleon Dynamite; I was waiting for Uncle Rico to show up at any moment. Their website states anyone 3 years and younger would be free, but if you purchase a package kids under 3 aren’t free. I thought it was silly but oh well. Everything was going as planned until it was time for my family to go swimming. When you leave the swimming area they stamp your hand with a generic, dollar store stamp. Being that most of my party was using sun block it caused the stamp to come off. I inquired with the pool attendant (man stamping people we will call him Bubba) if there was an alternative way, explained the situation and it was like talking to a tree stump. So I went to the 1985 business office and of course the young lady (we will call her Daisy Duke) who I signed my contract with couldn’t assist me so she had to call in another lady (May Bell). This lady stated she was one of the owners and in the 40 years and stated “In the 40 years I don did business, I have never had a problem with the stamps”. This was hard for me to believe. She suggested we not use sun block, this is just the way it is and she wouldn’t be changing anything for one group. I suggested we use a piece of paper they could stamp, her rebuttal was that we could just pass that around to get people in without paying. She spoke over me several times and at the end of the conversation thanked me for being “civilized”. The conversation between her and I was going no where and I wasn’t going to waste any more time talking to someone who thought stamping a person’s hand in August heat was an effective method of keeping up with who paid. Oh did I mention you pay $5 to swim in a baby pool that doesn’t go over 3ft?? We went to the paddle boats a few times and there was never an attendant there, so we had to walk back to our “pavilion” tin hut in the heat. The paddle boat “pond” was absolutely disgusting, not to mention half the boats were filled with muddy green stuff and broken. Honestly I could have gone to Traders Village and had a better time. I could have over looked a lot of things if the customer service would have been there, but these people do not care about that. They are too worked about someone cheating them out of $2. They would have to change owners and give the “amusement park” a make over before I give them my business again. I am going to make sure I tell everyone I know not to waste their time going there.

it was august when we felt inspired to finally visit this quaint place. heat index 118- but were native texans we just go on when its hot. went on a sunday afternoon with two kids 3 and 5 perfect ages for this park we were there 2 hours spent $30 on rides and had the place to ourselves no lines no waiting. the place was old and not terribly sophisticated or "slick" like modern designs would be but every ride had current inspection posted, they were all clean and freshly painted nothing was out of order, and my kids were happy to be there. the rides for little kids were grouped together and were under large shade trees- not so hot for them or us.Reccomendation: visit the website- i did and found a coupon for free admission to park saving us about $10. also i knew which rides my kids could get on based on height req. if i could improve the park at all it would be to maybe help the staff be more enthusiastic- they were nearly wordless as they were operating the equipment and ushering us onto and off of the rides. even a simple "welcome" "you picked a great ride" or a "have fun" would have put the experience over the top in my book.

My band took us to Sandy Lake last year, and I was excited. When we got there though, all of my expectations fell. The bus was pulling in and I saw an old fashioned place. Walking in the park, there was two trees, one was labelled "gum tree" and it was covered in chewed up gum, and the other was labeled "vomit tree." I didnt see that one. The rides were okay, but really out of date. The rock-o-plane was fun, if you can figure out how to go upside down. The swings were okay, I guess. The "roller coaster" looked dumb, and so did the kiddie area. The mini-golf course is really long and un-kept. I didnt try the food, nor did I go over to the paddle boats, but I heard two girls talking about the "haunted house" ride, and how it wasnt scary. My friend got the ticket book, and didnt use them all, unlike the ticket pages, where I used them all up. Over all, I was kind of bored, but its better then being in school all day.

Took our whole family this weekend in celebration of my granddaughters birthday. We all had a wonderful time and only spent about 60 bucks for 6 of us. After leaving the park we were at a toy store and upon checking out my husband realized his wallet was gone. Well he and two other family members went back to the park to see if they could find it. The Tilt-A-Whirl operator had found the wallet and was just about to go turn it in when my husband talked to him !! He was so overjoyed at this mans honesty that he gave him a reward which the man didnt want to accept but hubby insisted! We will definitely be back to Sandy Lake...the whole family is still talking about what a fun place it was !

A nice family place. Inexpensive until you start riding the rides. You can usually get in free with a coupon but everything in the park is extra fare. There is a fun train ride and a great large swimming pool. Bathrooms are outdoor and not great. Take water with you. The small concession stand serves decent food. A great place to picnic. Dont waste your time or money on the mini golf. Its in horrible disrepair and needs a complete overhaul. Very frustrating to play on as the course sits on an incline and there are few even surfaces. A note to other ladies: wear comfy shoes!
