A Cover Charge to Eat DINNER??? On 2/12/2011 a group including myself and seven friends decided we wanted to go to the Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie Bar for dinner. We were in town from Cincinnati for a friend’s 30th birthday celebration. Two out of our group went down there a little bit early, about 5:45p or so, to have a few drinks and grab a table large enough to fit all eight of us. The establishment told those two that we needed to be finished with our dinner by 8:30p because they had another large group coming in at that time to use the large table. We got to the restaurant at approximately 7:00p figuring we had plenty of time to get a meal in. The remaining six of our group, upon entering the door, we were greeted by a large man who looked like a bouncer. We told him we already had a table waiting for us and pointed to our friends who we could see about 20 ft. away. He then told us that it was going to be a $10 cover charge to get in. We tried to explain that we weren’t there to go to the bar, that we were going to be eating dinner and that our friends were holding a table for us and they didn’t have to pay a cover. “$10 is the cover charge tonight guys”, he explained. (Ridiculous.) After, again, explaining that we were there for only dinner and our other friends were already there, he said “I’ll see what I can do…” He then steps up to the bar and asks the bartender if they could cut us a break for the reasons aforementioned. She said “Sure. You can charge them half.” That’s cutting us a break? We have to pay $5 to even be able to look at your menu? That’s absurd. That doesn’t make much sense from a business perspective, either. You’re turning down what could amount to $300+ in food and drink sales over a $30 cover? Not to mention the bad word of mouth publicity you’ve created by ruining our plans for a birthday celebration. Any time in the future that I find myself in a conversation about Nashville, I will be sure to mention Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie Bar as a place to be blacklisted.

I went here with my husband for a couples night out on St. Patricks Day weekend and had a great experience. There was a live band & an amazing performance by Crystal Shawanda. We had a reservation which I recommend you make one too if you decide to make a trip so that you may be seated upon arrival as apposed to standing around like a lot of the other visitors. We had in my opinion, the best seats in the place, at the he bar, where you could see all the guest come and go. And we were in good hands with a bartender name Lisa. She was great! Ask her about a fruit punch drink (non alcohol) and I guarantee youll enjoy it. I wont discuss the food because Im a very picky eater so I wouldnt be able to help in that department however my husband seemed to have enjoyed his alligator ______. The crowed was a mixture of all nationalities which I could appreciate. Everyone seemed to be having a great time. We only stayed an hour and a half but it was very worth it! If youre wanting to plan a future trip to this location just to see what the city of Nashiville has to offer, I would suggest you go at an early hour 8-10 p.m. The later it got, the more crowded it became.

What happened tonight is unforgivable. The night was going great until the waitress selling jello shots told us, "Im selling this last tray $1 per shot, I have to get rid of it". Thinking we ran into an end of the night deal we bought 4. Get the bill and we were charged $3 a piece ($12 total). Money was not the issue. The problem occurred when I brought it to attention, the bartender that sold us the shot stated , "Oh, you didnt hear me right because its so loud in here". WTF!! I wasnt as drunk as she thought I was and I wasnt the only person in my party to hear the statement. The manager didnt do anything about it, but that might have been my fault because by the time I spoke with her I was livid, not only did they steal from me but they also insulted my intelligence, and I didnt use the best language

If you want to hear some blues while enjoying good drinks and bar food with a southern flair, be sure to check out Bourbon Street. The house band, Josh Garrett and the Bottom Line, consists of some highly energetic and talented guys from Louisiana. They play blues and Cajun music with a modern flavor, which purists may find unsatisfactory, but there is no denying the fun factor. I was surprised at the $5 cover on a Thursday night, but the music was definitely worth it. The bar serves up decent mixed drinks (they had some $3 specials), bourbons, and Louisiana beer. You can get staples like burgers and wings as well as fried catfish. Service is decent, though it can be hard to get a servers attention (an advantage if you just want to sit, listen and not be bothered). Definitely a winner.

Awful experience... dirty tables, chewed gums are under the tables, the waitresses seems to be soliciting especially the bleached blonde hair one. The management left the entrance door opened for 5 hours on a cold and rainy night with the air conditioning so high that all the customers wore jackets and still shivered. I requested for it to be closed but the waitress lied about the customers complaining it was too hot .... everyone was literally shaking ! Finally , I found out that it was a marketing strategy to attract customers walking down the alley. The door was left open so people could hear the music ! How low and inconsiderate can the management be to customers at hand...

Visiting Nashville for the first time, we wandered Broadway, visited the Station Inn on free Sunday Jam night (dont bother) and hit Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie Bar. By far this was the best place for a great music experience. Not all the glitz of some of the large venues on Broadway and the afternoon we were there (Sunday I think) Fritz Hester along with Joe (forget his last name...sorry Joe) on Tuba, were playing from a huge repertoire of songs, took a few requests and made for a great time. The food was fine, the beer was good and Fritz and Joe were a revelation. I highly recommend stopping in at Printers Alley for a visit. Very cool place.

Decided to make a last minute trip to Nashville so I looked up blues bars as Im not a huge country fan. This was by far our favorite bar we went to over the weekend. Great atmosphere, music, food and service. Most of the other bars we went to seemed more like tourist traps. Many of the tables were reserved for 8, 9, and 10pm but you could sit anywhere until the reserved time or longer if nobody showed up. Im not sure if that was due to the headliner but I would recommend making a reservation if you want a guaranteed seat all night. I will most definitely be going back next shotgun trip to Nashville!
