Really interesting place, Ive never been anywhere like it. Although it feels more like a fortress than an actual house, and its completely empty except for a few plumbing items and a closet here and there. Did the audio tour, it was very good quality. I appreciated that it wove you in and out of the house, so you didnt have to be in the hot sun for long periods of time. Heads up, to pay for admission at the castle, you need cash. Otherwise you need to go to the Visitor Center/Gift Shop first to buy your tour. And you need to specify if you want audio. They were running guided tours in May, but I didnt want to wait an hour for the next one. And I preferred not being in a large group when wandering around. There is a $5 per person fee to get into the park itself. There are plenty of restrooms, though no soap or hand drying options are available. There was a hand sanitizer dispenser available.

Absolutely breathtaking with the views its a very historical site. When you walk-through the castle you can read the plaques in every room to help explain what the room was used for. Some rooms even have some artifacts within the rooms and its neat to see how their bathrooms were back in the day with the shower stalls and the way the plumbing work as well as the Gardens and the quarters were all the staff had lived and worked. Plus you have the wonderful ocean right there I did see people swimming and laying out on the beachfront. Plus the paths around the grounds are just absolutely gorgeous. Such positive vibes from this day trip.

As a child, I remember our family reunions were held at the state park. I remember going into the, "Castle", as we called it, but never realized the importance of this special place. It is an amazing place to visit and follow the footsteps of some great history. Parents, if you take your children here, please explain to them the history part of this place. As it was never a place in my heart as a child, it has a special place now that I am older. Being a South Carolina native, things like this is important to me. It is part of our local history that I know you too, will enjoy.

The history of Atalaya Castle, the connection to Brookgreen Gardens, all go toward making this an outstanding place to visit. I was so awed by the interior of the house, tried to image it furnished and how it must have been, back in the day. Archer and Anna Huntington built a beautiful place to live and work. I highly recommend you take the time to walk through this historic home.

Very nice to visit! Information center is just enough...not to pushy, informative enough and helpful . The house is beautiful, plagues on the walls explain what the rooms were used for and the map is well laid out and easy to follow. Our 4 year old was able to "guide" us, which he loved. Fantastic glimpse into the history of the area, people and home. Courtyard area is gorgeous!

This is a very cool and historical place to walk through. It is 2 dollars a person. When you hear castle dont think European castles, because this one is more fortress like. It is small, however its very fun to go through each of the rooms and read their descriptions.

Interesting place and well worth the $2. It doesnt take long to tour and has some pretty interesting parts. Itd be more interesting if they had some of the original furnishings, etc but its not climate controlled so I can see why they dont.

Was not happy about the $5 charge to get in, then the $2 to see the inside of the castle, but it was well worth it. People are very friendly and knowledgeable, and the place is gorgeous.

Interesting house - different archititure. Worth seeing. Good to see at Christmas time when the interior is decorated and there are actors as Archer and Anne.

Interesting place. Not as old as most other historic sites in the area, but fun to walk through the "castle" structure.
