Though it may not match up with Gettysburg (what can?), Manassas is quite the place in its own right. There are numerous tours offered that explain the events of the first and second battles. We did the Henry Hill tour that describes the events of the first battle. The ranger gave an excellent tour. I always enjoy learning more than what videos and visitor center museums can provide. We also went on the Deep Cut tour. This was also informative. I dont think you can go wrong with an NPS-led tour at a Civil War battlefield. The video, while long, was extremely detailed and informative. Probably more so than any other museum video Ive ever watched. The exhibits at the Henry Hill Visitor Center were great, especially the diorama that shows the first battle. Make sure to visit the house at Brawner Farm to see the diorama about the second battle and more informative exhibits. I always find battlefields to have an eerie quality to them. Manassas is no different. Make sure you visit!

Great place! The battle is interpreted well, there are several tours throughout the day and informative exhibits as well as a 45 minute film. I found this place to be a little packed compared to some of the other sites Ive been to but Im sure that is because of its proximity to D.C. and other metropolitan areas, and of course the fact that it was a pivotal battle. There is a lot of nature and a driving tour as well. The only complaint I have is that I wish they were more clear about the distance and time it takes to complete trails, as well as a little bigger sinage for their auto tour stops but other than that It was really good. It definitely deserves a stop if you are in the area!

I really enjoyed the Manassas/Bull run Battlefield. The park had great trails that walked all around the battlefield and had great information at all the important spots. This battlefield is definitely an all day event esspically if you do the driving tour around Manassas. The park rangers were incredibly helpful and the museum at the visitor center was very helpful in learning the history of both battles. The driving tour can be very long and honestly there are some things you dont even need to get out of your car to see. I highly recommend that everyone come see this park because it is such an important part of the history of the United States.

So interesting, so much fun, so much to see and do. First off, however, historic places kind of have to be "your thing" if the above is going to apply to your experience as well. If you come expecting a mindless experience than youve come to the wrong place. If you want to learn about our nations history, however, and walk around the actual battle grounds of the 1st and 2nd battles of the Civil War with a very knowledgeable tour guide, and, if youre up to it, go on a really scenic 1.4 mile hike that takes you across the historic "Stone Bridge" (all for FREE!), then the Manassas National Battle Field Park is for you!

A well-maintained battlefield park that can provide anyone with historical perspective. I just wonder, however, what the poor souls who died during the Civil War would think if they knew that Americans today bragged about Virginia being home to the most battlefield sites and parks. I also wonder what they would think of knowing that Americans visit these parks as part of their leisure time activities--for picnics and such. I mean some 20,000 people died at that site (over two battles) and so its a killing field and that should command ones respect when visiting it.

I was at Henry Hills today walking around the park learning history. The people were friendly on the ground but as I visit the visiting center and as I was attending to leave and I said you guys have a nice day no one even respond at the counter they looked at me like I was just disgusting . Also, keep in mind slavery is over and Im African-American. Something that need to be addressed at the counter in the Business Center if you are African America ,white, Chinese or any other race you are to respond back you are in customer service.

Of all the Eastern battlefields in Virginia,I would say Manassas or Bull Run is the best. It has a comprehensive museum,re-enactments an of course their were two important battles fought here. With Spotsylvania,Fredricksburg,Cold Harbor, the two Wilderness battles,Saylors Creek,Five Forks, the Petersburg Siege plus the many Shenandoah Valley battles,id have to say its a bragging point of the state!! Its a nice spot for families to Civil War buffs, make it a pic-nic or a field day trip for schools-theres room here for anybody!

Absolutely thought provoking. To think that you are standing on the field where thousands of young men died and where their blood was spilled. I have two complaints, however. 1.) Visitors do not show enough respect. This is not a playground for your children to run around and play on. 2) This was a confederate victory, however, the focus of the battlefield is the union army. I know the Union won the war, but more respect needs to be shown to the confederate men who lost life and limb on this battlefield.

My husband and I love Manasseh National Battlefield Park so much (and the adjacent Stone House and Stone Bridge) that we decided to do our first look wedding photos on the site. It was important for me as a history teacher to bring one of the most amazing historical sites into an important day. The national battlefield park provided for a great backdrop and the scenery captured in the photos was too beautiful not to share. Thanks for providing Virginians with a great historical place to visit!

This is a great historical site, but one the is surrounded by an ever encroaching modernity.. This civil war battlefield is very threatened from over development, but due to the efforts of many this park has improved over the years. The grounds are well kept, and the learning center is fantastic. The staff is also very first rate as well. As far as civil war battle sites rank, this is a very good one. The missing star is simply because traffic to the field can be horrid.

To really understand a culture or a people, you need to understand their history. Walking around Manassas Virginia brought the Civil War to life. With all of the baggage and ugliness of our own past, and the fact that men and women years ago stood up for what is right. They paid for freedom for all people with their lives. If you have a few hours in between flights out of Dulles Airport, strongly recommend visiting Manassas National Park.

This was worth the drive out - its not as large as other parks nearby, so its something of a hidden gem. If you can, make sure to visit the visitor center and get a guided tour! Ours was wonderful and clearly very knowledgeable. Also theres a drivable tour of other nearby sites, so if you can, make time for those as well. Go when its nice out but not when its hot, as the main park has very little shade. Also very wheelchair-friendly!

Home of two battles, The Manassas National Battlefield Park is a quentisentual piece of American history. Starting with the marauding chaos and unreasonable expectations that culminated in the disaster of the first battle, you can progress through that maturation of organized combat in the Civil War and explore the strategic brilliance of Jackson and Lee in one of the greatest turning maneuvers in the history of warfare.
