First, the golf course conditions are better than any of the public courses ending in "Valley" and Ive played mostly all the public courses that end with "Valley" in the area. Tees, fairways, greens and rough all great and better with the exception of the bunkers which were not that great though placed very well- challeneged you to zero in on the green- I like that. So you ask why only 2 stars? heres why... Pace of play is timed by clocks and tee times are packed WAY too tightly to the point of uncomfortable play for even a 20 handicapper. Not to mention that there is a rifle range right next to the golf course, it is LOUD and for someone with PTSD it is not a great setting. In addition, inspite of the conditions, the vistas are simply only okay and yardage markers hard to find. Also, NEVER get a tee time close and before noon- there are two groups at noon and 12:06 who are scratch golfers that go off every Sunday, there is a marshall that bothers you every hole if you are not playing to their pace of play, this forced us to play best ball. You are not allowed to let them play though only quit, which we did not do, or be hassled then thrown off, which nearly almost happened. The business model of Locust Valley is backwards. To gain more business and retain customer loyalty for an increased revenu stream, Locust Valley should charge more and spread the tee times out. I have never ever been rushed like that or dealt with such rude people as well as other tensed 20 handicap golfers. The experience is not worth the conditions. Find a more amicable place to play. Final note- according to the pace clocks, placed every 4 holes on the course, we finished just 7 minutes off our time. We will not be playing there again until their business model changes to the above suggestion.

Havent played here in a number of years and heard it was under new mgt. Very pleased with the course. Besides the rain yesterday, the course was in excellent shape. Greens were excellent and very consistent, grounds crew was very respectful of players (shutting down machines for us, etc). If youre considering Locust, I definitely give it a Thumbs up! I like it better than the 2 other local courses that I typically play. The clubhouse from the outside is shows its age but once inside, its clean and neat and all of the recent work is apparent. I definitely recommend. Enjoy!

Course conditions were quite good - especially greens and fairways. Bunkers were inconsistent (hard-pan on one and fluffy one another). It is obvious that they are doing work to the course (some caused by Superstorm Sandy ripping apart trees (but it is only for the betterment of the course). My only complaint was a lack of marshalls on the course. We had some slow play in front of us and having a marshall would have been helpful. All in all a good day and I will definitely go back.

I played here with my friends today. There are many sand bunkers close to every green. It was not easy for such a weekend golfer like me. I got the worst memory in #8 green side sand bunker. My thumb was cut by the rake whose plastic rod end was vertically split. It is almost plastic kitchen knife. I could not play well with the bloody thumb. Watch out the dangerous rakes in Locust Valley. I saw more in the second half. Please replace them.

Im a member. Coarse conditions are always very good, tough well bunkered greens and tight fairways make this not a beginners golf coarse! Slow play at peak times prevent me from giving a five star rating. The coarse needs a Ranger out there at peak times to keep things moving!

Played around Labor Day 2013. Course was in very good shape and we had no issues with slow play (I think my foursome finished in under 4 hours). The greens are challenging and were quite fast the day I played. Ill definitely go back.

This course is a good test of your golfing skills. You better hurry if you would like to play here, because this is the last year for the course building lots and homes will replace this great course.

Old time PA Golf course: hilly, wooded, nothing fancy, challenging but not tricked out.
