Dont bring groups here, apparently the White Eagle does not consider itself a pub but rather a recording studio. Ive been to this place many times in my 20 years as a professional in Portland and have never been treated as poorly as tonight at any place in this city. I work at a very large software firm in the area and we had visitors in town from out of the country and they wanted to go to a pub and see some live music. White Eagle seemed like a great place to bring them. There were 5 of us, we arrived early, sat at a larger table by the sound board and spent plenty of money on food and drinks. A woman at the bar got very drunk and started taking pictures of our group, calling us a*holes, and complained to the bartender about us being loud. The music was quite loud so of course we had to chit chat above our normal level but we are not rowdy at all. I mean come on, were software engineers in our 40s and this IS a pub for gods sake. The bartender came over to tell us that she complained, but he said he had cut her off and he was just going through the motions so as to not upset her. When the young, ill-equipped bartender came over the second time and asked us to move to the back we were completely offended. He should have thrown the drunk stalker out of the pub but instead he was appeasing her and ruining our evening. Horrible experience for us and our out of country guests who expected Portland to be a tolerant place full of good energy and great music. Ive never been so ashamed of Portland, and at a McMenamins no less. Ill never go there again.

weve always had awesome experiences at this and all other mcmenamins during the many many visits weve made- but we mustve rolled snake eyes during this particular visit with friends yesterday after getting our drinks and orders started- well half of the orders we made were either forgotten or wrong unfortunately. besides all that, while my side of the table had some pretty good food while my friends who ordered the chicken strips on the other hand were brought out what literally looked like 3 chicken nuggets with tails, with maybe a handful of tots. i dont blame them for being upset and not wanting to pay for a little nibble of food, so they proceeded to order another meal to atleast be half filled- and althought brought to the attention of the staff, no such support or compensation was made for the bit. to top it all off, we ended up being surrounded (on the outdoor patio area) by a dozen chain smokers who we were unfortunate enough to be perfectly downwind and in the middle of their lingering cloud. i thought smoking wasnt allowed in or around eating areas, but apparently i was wrong. bummer day for us, and worse day for some good friends we were slowly opening up more so to the mcmenamins experience.. heh that balloon popped quickly

We drove 40 minutes for an open mic our friend was playing, the manager Morgan, asked me and my wife to leave because her drivers license is slightly bent along the crease where it can be snapped in half, Iowa license, he didnt card any on else at the table and after we left, refused to serve alcohol to another friend after already check in his ID and allowing him to order both Tater tots and a cider. He brought the food but said he couldnt serve the a lchohol. If his ID was in question, it was after all ages hours, i feel their is an inconsistency. He also failed to card any of our 8 other friends at the table be fore we got there. He apparently has done this a number of times. Their should be equal treatment and application of law or youre being discriminatory. Until I hear back from the mcmenamins headquarters and they take advantage of the ability to make up for this and reprimand this employee of theres, no one present wished to go back to a mcmenamins. There were three people there other than our group, you ruined my even I and I missed the performance.

As a first timer in Portland, without anyone to give me guidance in where to stay, I was very pleased with the White Eagle. I travel a fair amount, but I usually stay in big chain hotels just out of convenience. Since I was trying to get to know the area a little, the White Eagle fit my needs perfectly. I could understand how it might not be for everyone though. Since the rooms are overtop the saloon, there was some muffled noise until late, but nothing you arent warned about when checking in. The hotel itself is very charming. It looks almost like an old boarding house, alhoughi havent looked into the history of the place. The rooms are small, quaint yet very comfortable as well as reasonably priced. I stayed in the full room and had more than I needed. Some of the facilities are shared, such as bathrooms and showers but they are well maintained and have none of the downsides that the communal space might suggest. Service was excellent, parking unproblematic. Overall it was an awesome experience.

Just had another fantastic 2-night experience at this McMenamins location. Brought my son for his first visit and to see a band, and had reasonable expectations from past stays with friends. I must say that the staff made our stay very memorable, and we very much appreciate the kindness that was extended. Our room was perfect (as they always are at the Eagle), the bar is so amazing, and the band for our off-night (a Friday) was perfect. Thanks to Emulator for the entertainment. The guitar and keys were simply amazing. Too bad the crowd was so small, but hey, more room for those who showed. Not sure if Ill ever make it back to Portland, but if I do, this is where I would stay, hands down. Its my kind of place. Sorry I cannot remember all the names, but hopefully you remember us. I made sure to remember Stacy, who was great throughout. My son loved the late-night burger you made after our Goats show, and it left us with the best impression, though you had us from the start. Thanks so much, everyone!

My experience is with the bar/restaurant only. TLDR: Great service and atmosphere. A good "Portland" experience for those who seek the eclectic culture of the area. I went to the White Eagle to play Pokemon Go! a while back. I did not intend to stick around long, but i ended up getting a beer and eating their house-made french fries and locally sourced and made ketchup and ranch dipping sauces. The staff is very affable and easy going. We discussed the swing of business with the release of Pokemon Go! as well as the local bands that would be playing soon. It was a very immersive experience as a whole. The bar is gorgeouz and the lighting is low enough to be relaxing but not so low as to discourage visiting with the staff or friends. I fully intend to visit regularly based on my experience there. Prices are a tad high but it is worth the experience in my opinion.

I have NEVER been treated so terribly! Been here like 100 times. I used to rave about the food here. I tip EVERY time! Than, ONE TIME I didnt tip cause I was not happy with the service ONE TIME... a week later the manager, some dude with a ponytail, takes issue with me cause i didnt tip that one time. I said he waS being hot headed and asked him to calm down. He started getting furious, kicked me out cause I asked him to please calm down! All of this started cause I didnt tip ONE TIME! I will never come here again! I raved about this place to friends, family, my youtube subscribers, all sorts of people. And I am ALWAYS nice! I felt terrible after they kicked me out cause I loved this spot so much and been here so many times. It was like being spit in the face after giving someone a helping hand! What trash!!!
