Id like to think of myself as someone pretty well versed when it comes to visiting different casinos, as I have frequented Las Vegas and have played at all 3 in Detroit, Firekeepers & Soaring Eagle in MI., Horseshoe in Cleveland, JACKS in Cincinnati & several in Indiana, Colorado & even Florida. Hollywood Casino, Toledo would have to be on the bottom of this list which is very unfortunate because its local. Im writing this review as being a fair & honest customer of this business. Not looking to slander anything, just looking to bring truthful issues to their attention in hopes that it can be bettered for everyone. Ill start with the positives as there are a few: (not enough to prevent a 1 star rating though) the building/casino floor is kept clean, nice big, clean restrooms (hey, Im being fair & its true!) & the food all around is pretty decent. Well start with all of the fees/prices. Nothing is competitively priced & everything has a fee. $5.00 fee for valet (NOT including tip). Has this prevented me from valeting? Not necessarily, but extremely unnecessary as valet service (minus the tip) is complimentary at almost every other casino Ive ever been to. Not to mention, the $5.00 valet fee does not ensure that your vehicle will be brought up quickly by any means as the valet booth is typically understaffed. Moving on... you need to have some cash to play, so lets stop by one of their many inconveniently located ATMs. It seems like they actually have more ATMs located outside of security/off of the casino floor than on it. So if you did need to use the ATM, chances are youll either wait in a decent line or have to walk passed security at either exit to use the ATM. Oh yeah, well when you find one, the ATMs will hit you with that $5.00 fee again. So now, you are out about $10.00 & you havent even played yet. Fair enough, Lets go get a drink! There is only 1 bar here, so chances are you will have to wait in line again & I hope you kept your cash out because youre going to need it! $4.00 bottle domestic, $5.00 draft in a plastic cup & thats about your entry price for any adult beverage (dont think youre getting hard liquor any cheaper). What bothers me is the plastic draft cup... typically if Im spending $5.00 for a pint, Id at least like it in a glass. Its like that old saying "if youre going to do me like that, at least take me to dinner first". And they seem to have all of these excuses like, "what if someone drops a glass, or steals them, or whatever". Thats the same concerns every bar/restaurant has and its called "the cost of business" and Hollywood Casino is saying "yes were being cheap, because we can" with a wink & a smile. Well, so far weve spent a minimum of $15.00, havent gambled yet & have a nice refreshing plastic cup of sometimes cold beer. Lets not even waste time with getting a players card. Hollywood, lets face it... the comps are aweful! The slowest, worst comps I can say Ive ever seen! You will need to drop some serious serious coin if you think you are going to get a meal (just for 1) comped in a single outing. Being local, I know this. Next, please dont think youre going to earn Freeplay from your Players Card, you will be disappointed. I get emails from casinos Ive been to once or twice in my life and have more Freeplay on my card than at Hollywood. Its actually pretty sad & Im sure those with Players Cards at other casinos & Hollywood know exactly what Im talking about. Dont think that the table games will be any better. Blackjack, while always dead, has tons of rookies playing, no-one plays by the book and the side bets (perfect pair for example) pays 15 to 1 whereas MGM Grand Detroit pays 30 to 1!! Why in the world would you place a side bet on something half the value as another casino? Hollywood is banking on people not knowing this and taking advantage of them. Oh yeah, continuous shuffle machines? Seriously? How rigged do you want to play?

H Lounge - rude, sarcastic, short, slow service. We arrived at the casino around 10:45pm and the doorman directed us to the H Lounge. I spoke with the host and hostess and asked where our seats were located and they pointed behind them and said I should ask one of the girls walking around. I approached one of the servers and without making eye contact, she said, “Your seats are over there” and vaguely waved an arm in some direction. I asked again to clarify and she said she would take us there, but it was very awkward standing in the middle of the floor with 15 girls. We walked over to an open area and sat down. Adam, one of the managers, I assumed, was a bit sarcastic and gruff in manner (definitely not manager material). We waited for 12 min for a server in the mean time and finally got up to get our own drinks at the bar. I did not realize there was a one drink rule and I completely understand. I am writing to you today to bring to your attention how unprofessional this entrance had been so far with hardly the hospitality that I am accustomed to at a casino. Next, the servers looked frantic running around trying to accommodate all the tables and were not able to do so in a timely manner. I got up and briefly said to Adam (the manager), “We’re leaving” to which he rudely replied, “ok” and turned his back to me and walked away. I would have expected for a new business or any business for that matter that he would have asked me what the problem was or how it could be rectified or even a simple apology for the hassle we went through to get to the casino in the first place only to leave an hour later. This was a very important event in my best friend’s life and am very disappointed that she had to experience such poor customer service on this day. Final Cut Steakhouse - Service is mediocre for a restaurant trying to portray such a high calibre. Menu is bland..nothing creative...no gourmet food items. Food was excellent in terms of taste. I had the seabass. No ice cream. Needs to improve on creativity and add a few gourmet items. Servers are not very knowledgeable and sound uneducated about the menu and food. I have dined here three times and it has not improved. Dessert is dry. I have had all desserts on the menu and all appetizers....the most gourmet item is the truffed french fries.

I was SO looking forward to a new casino coming to the area. Ive done my best to give them the benefit of the doubt BUT they seem to shoot themselves in the foot more times than not. I play table games and poker. The wife plays slots and table games. Lets start with Table Games. When you play $100 per hand or roll of the dice you would think they would bend over backwards to accommodate you. Their comps suck and I absolutely HATE the feeling that I have to beg for a buffet for me and the wife. Get a clue Penn - keep us fat and happy and we keep coming. You get most peoples $$ in the long run. I was going 3-4 times a week and now you are lucky if I’m there twice a month. The Poker Room. Peter does a great job IF YOU PLAY NOTHING BUT CASH. But, in their infinite wisdom the poker room designers screwed the pooch. They will NEVER have a great tournament calendar as they do not have enough tables. Not to mention the aforementioned Peter holds back tables for cash which limits the tournaments even more. HINT PETER - if you use more tables and you have cash guys there THEY WILL PLAY in the tourney. Many of us were really hoping this venue would be able to host WPT or HPT events but due to the POOR PLANNING and lack of banquet facilities for table overflow that will never happen. And FINALLY, fix your blinds. Start at 25/50 even in the MEGA and ADD a 500/1000 blind. The jump from 400/800 to 600/1200 is TOO BIG. Half the players at each table become short stacked and it turns into an all-in fest which sucks. Its nice to have a casino close but due to the ABSOLUTELY PITIFUL COMPS and lack of a hotel (not that they would EVER consider comp’ing a room) its better to run to Detroit or Windsor where they know how to treat their players. BOTTOM LINE: We have nobody to blame but ourselves. Constitutional Amendment - what a joke. Can you say M.O.N.O.P.O.L.Y ? Our ONLY HOPE is that somewhere out there is a casino owner that can figure out if they built a casino across the border in Michigan - Hollywood Toledo would GO OUT OF BUSINESS !! Nuff said…..
