Full disclosure: I worked here as an attendant in my senior year at the nearby Divinity School. I loved working there and I will always love the chapel, especially the crypt, modeled after those where Christians used to meet when they suffered persecution under various Roman emperors. The stained glass in the chapel is outstanding, on par with the best windows found in Europe. A little Easter egg you can have fun looking for is a little mouse looking out over the congregation every Sunday (hint: there are two, both of them fashioned in wood). Ask the current attendant if you need help finding them... If you get on their good side, they might even let you walk up the 300+ steps to the top of the tower!

Walking the well landscaped grounds of one of the most prestigious universities in the country is enjoyable enough, but being able to admire the remarkable architecture of the University Chapel is heightens the experience. While Duke has done a great job constructing buildings of many different architectural influences, the predominant style is gothic. The chapel is built in this same gothic style and reaches into the sky, welcoming visitors from miles around. The chapel is well worth a visit if you’re a student of architecture, enjoy art, or like to see unique buildings. While there are many things to do and see at Duke University, make sure you take the time out to see the chapel.

One of the more picturesque churches on the coast. An incredible spot to stop in and just take the place in. Concerts are amazing with an organ thats seriously amazing! Going when the sun is out makes for some incredible pictures inside and out. Worth seeing more than once if youve got the chance!

The Chapel was an icon that you always referenced while attending Duke. I loved the story of my wifes grandmother how she stopped there on her honeymoon while they were building it. You of course have to approach it down the long road leading to the front doors.

gorgeous gothic architecture est. 1930 but nevertheless its not to be missed. they do have a crypt but I didnt get too see it because there were apparently too many people and only one staff present. but call ahead and you can be taken downstairs...

Stunning facade. We werent able to go inside since its closed for renovation. People are camping in tents outside for a spot to get married inside the chapel. The waiting list is more than a year(???)

Duke Chapel is where the university proves it has more money than sense. If you are part of a religion that routinely kills Christians, you can meet in the Chapel for your meetings!
