From the moment you reach out talk to Canvas Tattoo & Art Gallery to the moment you leave their doors, you know that this is a tattoo shop that is like no other. I was coming from out of town and getting matching tattoos with my best friend and had heard some great things about Canvas Tattoo. They were EXTREMELY responsive via email and phone, and I love that they have a confirmation system that sends texts. Mary Jane, the artist, was easily accessible via phone and email and was so responsive and open to my "vague" idea. :) When we arrived, the modern and trendy location was very welcoming. There was a great waiting area where we had snacks and beverages and had the chance to chat freely with Mary Jane. The shop itself is beautiful - exposed bricks, high windows, artwork of different types all over the walls - you could feel the creative vibes bouncing off the walls. Mary Jane was extremely patient when we talked through the ideas and placement of the tattoos. We went through a few iterations and design ideas and finally settled on one. She was given pretty much creative freedom on the design, with a few ideas from me. What she came up with was PERFECT. Throughout the actual sessions, the owner Jason came out and chatted with us as well. He is extremely welcoming and just such a nice person. He spoke about how we wanted the feel of the shop to invoke in its customers - welcoming, inviting, open, and creative. He did just that with the shop! Mary Jane put both of us at ease during the sessions. Even though both of us have had tattoos before, theres always a nervous excitement before you get one. She was so patient and comforting during both sessions. After we were both done, she gave great instructions on after care as well and showed us how to properly care for our tattoos. Overall - amazing experience, amazing people, and amazing work! Im looking forward to planning another tattoo with Mary Jane and traveling to Charlotte just to work with Canvas Tattoo and Art Gallery again!

There are two key factors in tattooing: the customer service and the art. Canvas excels at both which was important for a first tattoo experience. I corresponded with Sarah, who promptly and professionally answered all my questions and gave me a feeling of confidence that I had made a good choice. The shop is clean, comfortable and welcoming, with music and snacks. Conan is a remarkable artist who took my rough idea and transformed it into a unique design that captured both the image I wanted and my emotional connection to the image. He is in high demand and for good reason. He stayed late one evening to fit my schedule, worked on the final design until I was happy and he put me at ease with the process. He has an amazing ability to focus on the work and still carry on a witty conversation when I wanted to talk. Hes also sensitive to those times when I was just dealing with the pain and needed some quiet. He is worth everything he charges. Im still healing but from what Ive seen so far I am wearing a masterpiece.

I could not have asked for a better experience. I have been to a few different shops and worked with a few different artists in the past, and they simply do not compare to Canvas Tattoo. The first time I visited Canvas, I was greeted by Sarah; she could not have been any more welcoming! Considering my prior experience with other shops, I was so relieved to have been greeted in such a genuinely kind manner. Prior to my arrival, I spent years researching local artists, hesitant to proceed with what I thought to be a major cover-up job. My research led me to Conan. I just completed my first session with him and I could not be any happier. Not only is he an absolutely AMAZING artist, he is also just a genuinely nice guy! Words cannot describe how grateful I am to have the opportunity to work with such an awesome team. I have found my artist for life. Please visit Canvas; you will not be disappointed!

must say, that when I first walked into the studio, it reminded me of an upscale salon. Very nice lounge area, very open, and very clean. The artist was Mary Jane and was as pleasant as could be. She patiently worked on some sketches for my friend and I (my friend got me a tattoo as a birthday present) We really liked the little touches she had come up with. Shortly after that, Jason (the owner) came in and chatted us up. It was great to talk to a fellow veteran about his shop, and the stuff he does outside of the shop for fun (Spartan races, etc.). The tattoo came out great and we both were also pleased with the bandage/instructions we were given for the care of our new tattoo. This is the 3rd tattoo shop I have now visited in 3 different cities, and I must say I, along with my good friend, was very impressed. This is definitely a place I would come back to for my next tattoo!

I have been going to Conan McParland for over a year now and have been nothing but pleased with my 40+ hours of work he has done on my back. When I was younger, I got a back piece that was beyond horrible. I went through 10 laser sessions and when it was finally light enough, I was ready for a cover up from a talented artist. I went to several shops who were not sure if they could take on such a challenge, but Conan welcomed it. We both worked together on ideas that would work and he created a beautiful piece. Im not quite done with it, but it is so close. I cant wait to see the finished product! His pricing is very reasonable for the talent and courtesy he provides. He is so friendly has a warm "bedside" manner. I would recommend him and the other artists in this shop hands down. Mary Jane is another fantastic artist that has amazing work. You cant go wrong here!

I couldnt have imagined a better tattoo experience. The shop is classy, artistic, clean, and comfortable; great place to chill while getting ink or tagging along with someone who is. The staff is incredibly friendly and inviting, definitely not one of those pretentious "too cool for everything" vibes. As for my artist Conan Mcparland- this dude is the real deal. Just finished my second 6 hour session and the piece exceeded all expectations by a long shot. From our initial consultation and ongoing email conversation he helped me formulate my disjointed ideas for what I wanted into a cohesive and masterful piece of art. As you walk in the door of this shop it is evident that the owners and artists take pride in everything they do. I will be back without a doubt and hopefully sending people their way. Ive been recommending Conan McParland to anyone whos looking for quality work for years now!! Ive been going to Conan for 2 years and have 4 large pieces done by him- I personally trust no one else with my tattoos! Hes the type of artist you can go to with any idea or even fragment of an idea and he has the experience and the talent to make your idea a reality-no matter the style your looking for. Hes also very friendly and easy to get along with which makes the whole 5+ hours of pain way easier to handle! I havent been tattooed by Mary Jane personally but Ive seen a good amount of her work in person and have always been impressed. I think these two together in a shop are going to be a dream team! I cant wait for Canvas to open and am so excited to see what these two will create together!!
