The tasting room for this winery is about the smallest Ive ever seen. So much so that on a slow day, they will take just one couple at a time for the tasting. At max capacity, the counter could likely only take about four total people. They have some picnic tables right outside the tasting room, but they do not offer wines by the glass, as they do not allow you to drink by the glass on their property. That part was a bit of a let-down. Thats the bad, but then there is certainly some good. Usually, I have found that New Jersey wineries have pretty solid sweet wines, but the basic wines are unimpressive. That is certainly not the case at Ventimiglia. We spoke with Eugene, who seemed to own the establishment, and he discussed how sweet wine is not really what he considers true wine. He does offer a sweet white wine, but it has 4% residual sweetness, unlike the 12% punch of syrupy sweetness that can give you a headache at other wineries. The rest of the wines there are not sweet, and we were impressed. We did not particularly love the Chardonnay, but we arent white wine drinkers. The reds were all good, including a Carignane, Cab Franc, and Merlot. We liked the wines and the service was nice for us, so this place is worth the visit. However, its so small that you could end up with a wait. Additionally, the inability to enjoy a glass of wine on the premises leaves me unable to offer it a 5-star rating.

My wife & I frequent the Montclair Farmers Market where we initially met Gene. Not only were his NJ wines phenomenal, he was a genial and passionate guy. So we decided to make the trek to his Wantage tasting room. The drive north itself is quite nice, however be aware to get a nice lunch or dinner on the way back may take some searching. The tasting room itself is situated close to the grape vines (which are walkable). Its not an intimidating setting. You do feel like you are in an extension of Gene & familys home, tasting through the bottles. Our personal favorites have always been their reds - Cabernet Franc, the Fratelli, and Chambourcin. But even their whites are delicious. Personally we like the Buon Giorno.

What a nightmare! Place is tiny little room in the back of a house, dirt driveway, crap all over the place. Tasting room is the size of a large bathroom. There were five people there, but somehow they were backed up. Women took our tasting money. We stood around for 15 minutes in the corner, and then the nice older women asked us to help her put away some wine glasses so she could check someone out! You have got to be joking me! DO NOT COME HERE!!! PLEASE. we walked out, i would like my tasting fee back. Seriously, do not go here!

Some of the best wines Ive had in NJ, from a tiny family-owned winery. Do not come here if youre looking for the machine-like in-and-out tasting room experience you may get at the big boys, its more like visiting a friends house and being told history and facts of the wines on display. I personally have brought some of their wines to events where they stood head and shoulders above $75 bottles from CA or Italy. Theres a reason theyre on the short list at Restaurant Latours 100,000 bottle wine cellar.

The pourer was very nice to us and our kids and they had blocks for them to play with. The wine was delicious and each bottle had a short intro to go with it. Overall a lot of fun!

Had a pleasant experience here. The folks were friendly and they knew a good deal about the wine. The tasting room was small but well set up.

One of the best family owned local wineries in NJ. Amazingly delightful wines and lovely owners. Gene is just a font of wine knowledge.
