Art Seeker My restless spirit sent me searching for something to do on a gloomy and later, rainy day. A drive to Omaha, NE to visit the Joslyn Art Museum was needed. The fascinating Art Deco exterior of the building is constructed of Georgia Pink marble. Inside you will find many pieces that are part of private collections and those belonging to the Art Institute of Omaha and the Friends of Art. The general admission is free with the exception of special exhibits which a fee is charged. Currently, Bijoux Parisiens, French Jewelry from the Petit Palais, Paris is being shown until September 10, 2017. Two of my favorite pieces in the exhibit were the Amethyst and gold jewelry set (1820-1830) of chiseled gold that looked like delicate flower cups, and a bracelet (1875) with painted enamel panels of an ancient Greek procession based on the Parthenon sculptures in Athens. With so many halls to choose from, I decided on the Art of the American West/19th Century, Neoclassicism & Romanticism and Impressionism. To look upon the work of Daniel Ridgeway Knight, Paul Cornoyer, Thomas Hill, Monet, Degas and Mary Cassatt is amazing. To view the brushstrokes, feel the sense of movement and purpose that each artist intended, is a joy. The Joslyn Art Museum is like a small jewel case. It’s filled with priceless treasures that offers a little something for anyone. Overall. There is a café on the premises but was very busy so I was not able to try it out. The Hitchcock Museum Shop is well organized and offers an eclectic collection of scarfs, totes, books, posters, journals, children’s toys as well as other items for purchase.

We went to the Joslyn museum this morning for the story hour done for children. The first experience with the staff(front desk) was pleasant. As we walked upstairs to the second floor, the staff got unfriendly. We had gotten there a bit early so decided to walk around. My daughter(2) saw a picture of an animal and automatically touched it. One of the staff(black man)came over, very rudely and said dont touch that. I completely understood. Talked to my daughter about and then continued walking through to the other exhibits. Then he started following us into each gallery. Story time started so we made our way back to gallery 1. A women came in(looked like a manager) and kept talking to this man who had been rude to us about touching the painting. They both kept looking at me and I felt very threatened and uncomfortable. As soon as story hour was done, my daughter and I got up to leave. The women followed us through every exhibit for the next 30 minutes, making me feel like I was going to do something. Worst staff experience EVER. The only thing good about the Joslyn museum is the story hour for kids as well as the outdoor pond, sculptures, scenery and free admission. I would rate the outdoor with five stars. But the indoor gets one star.

This place is amazing. Admission to the main museum is free(they do accept donations) and you can see works by some major artists i.e. Rembrandt, Matise, a few others. The building itself is quite a marvel, with one giant indoor court yard that has a beautiful fountain with what looks like Spanish tiles. They do have a revolving exhibit section that charges an entrance fee(about $10) that features some pretty big name and interesting work. I think that changes every month or two. Even without paying for the traveling portion of the museum there is plenty to see and do. I recently brought my brother in-law who was visiting from out of state and he loved it. We actually came back a second time the next day with my wife and son. 5 stars not quite enough, in my opinion

For 8 dollars per person its pretty good, maybe even very good but for free, which is what they charged us, it was awesome. But seriously, this place was beautiful both inside and out. The nice thing about this kind of museum is the broad collection. That means therell be something for everyone to enjoy, and something for everyone to make fun of, too! Me, I dont particularly care for Medieval and Renaissance paintings. But I love Impressionism. The Joslyn has galleries dedicated to each, as well as sculptue, ancient Greek pottery, American portraits and landscapes and a freaking HUGE colored, hand-blown glass installation by D. Chiluly. Go. Have fun. Learn something. Mark in Iowa.

Half of the museum was closed for renovations which left very little to see. This would have been OK considering the free admission had some of the staff not been so rude to us. My elderly mother who cannot see very well leaned in to look at a painting in better detail (nowhere close to touching it) when when a young woman working there rudely yelled at her to back away from the paining and to stay three feet away. She then proceeded to follow us around for the rest of our time there as if we werent to be trusted to be left alone. Wont be back here.

Beautiful, beautiful pieces, beautiful garden. This Museum features mid-western pieces, often undervalued by us of the mid-west. A commanding tribute. I took my year old daughter, accompanied by a friend and her 18 month son. The staff made me feel very comfortable with the children. I enjoyed the adult time and the honor of viewing these works (esp. Degas Little Dancer!!), I will be saving time with the children for the Childrens Museum--parenting museum-quietly and keeping little ones museum-mannered is exhausting! :)

Being new to Omaha, The Joslyn Art Museum was my third leg of my Omaha art tour. As I entered the museum, I felt like I was transformed into a past century. Everything looked old, no contemporary art and no one knowledgeable about where to find it. The people working there looked depressed. The collection was interesting, a little bit of everything, but nothing notable. Big out door sculpture garden with lots of sculptures scattered all over the place. A very weird experience. local art galleries.

Was a great experience. This is my first time going there. However we were just about done, we were walking through the contemporary exhibit when the employee walking through that area told me that backpack arent allowed. He was the first and only person to call me out. There were multiple curators that have walked past us not calling me out for it. There were also no signs saying that backpacks werent allowed. Besides that was a wonderful place to be.

I have grown up to this place. I love the fountain and I actually save pennies to go on a early Saturday (free) to just have fun walking around. I like how there is that one area just for children. I do wish they had newer items in the upstairs area that doesnt have a lot of things to see. Food there is good and I love the music that happens there at the food court. Many memories happened there and future memories will come.

Free! This place is free. They have a few incredible pieces and some of the friendliest docents Ive ever witnessed. We went on Easter and had the place virtually to ourselves which made for a very magical day. Its also not so enormous that youre overwhelmed and cant take it all in. We made it through most everything in a couple hours and left content. Cant wait to go again when the European wing opens again (May 20).

This place has some really neat exhibits. I love that it is free admission for most of the museum. However, if you have children, dont bother trying to take them to enjoy the art as someone will be constantly following you around and reminding you to step back if you are within 3 feet of the exhibit. They do have a kids corner where kids can play (with adult supervision).
