Heather Hills is just like the name suggests, hilly. So much so that its tough to see over the hills on a few holes. This can be a problem when its busy, but you should know that before you book a tee time. I play from the white tees. From there its 6,108 total posted yards and you can see the fairways go significantly up and down and back again all the way to the green. There are a few ponds in the middle of the course that come into play on a few holes and theres also a thin stream with some high heather that runs across some of the same holes and a few more. I dont recall there being any sand on this course and the the front 9 is pretty wide open fairways that run adjacent to each other. This makes it pretty friendly to any player who loses balls severely left or right. The back 9 is more difficult with tree lined fairways and a long par 3 that is unforgiving to anyone with a slice, but its still a very fun and scenic 9 holes. The greens are not too difficult. They can be fast in peak conditions and there are a few pin positions that can be tough, but overall I would say they are on the easier side. Carts are bare essentials gas carts. That means no ball or club washers, rain hoods for your clubs, or even a windshield. There is at least one ball washer on every hole though. Extra scorecards are also available on holes 2 and 11. Tees are clearly marked. Some tee boxes are a little crowned and have excessive divots, but thats a minor gripe for me. The course quality and enjoyment are right up there with other nearby courses such as Devils Ridge and Boulder Pointe, but youll spend up to $23 less on the normal Saturday morning price at Heather Hills. At $42 or much less with a hotdeal on Golfnow, Heather Hills is a great value and is a big part of what makes this course a hidden gem. Off course amenities include a putting green and a range. They only offer small buckets at $4 each and the range is only about 200 yards. Food options at the turn are the typical hotdog, bag of chips, etc. They do have a cart girl. The clubhouse is small with a few irons of balls, apparel, and accessories. Overall, I love this course. Its one of my favorites. I just wish I lived closer to it.

Called prior to booking to ensure that my 3 year old would be allowed on the course. Was told "absolutely, no problem," Drove 30 minutes and was told by the staff associate and manager he was not allowed; even after I assured them he wouldnt leave my side and we are very cognizant of our surroundings, weve gone several times before. The manager stated, "a golf ball could hit him in the head and youre a bad father for taking him out there regardless that its not busy... policy is 8 and up." A golf ball hitting a 3 year old has the same impact hitting an 8 year old or a 30 year old. Everyone takes that risk going on any golf course regardless of age - its an unspoken rule. She might as well as called me a bad father for taking him outside with a rain cloud in the sky, he might get struck by lightning - the odds are even less with the golf ball considering how slow the course is and the layout. I will never go to this golf course ever again and do not recommend it to anyone on any level.

Played golf here yesterday July 3rd. Three of us got to the turn (10 tee) and the starter/ranger told the foursome in front of us to hold up and let us tee off to go ahead of them . I guess he noted there was a large gap in front of this foursome. Then we actually saw him riding thru the course and monitoring play also. Great work by the starter/ranger. We finished 18 holes right at four hours. My experience is that starter/rangers are either useless or pricks. This guy was on top of it. We will certainly come back because of this guy. BTW - Course was challenging and in good shape also.

This course IS THE BEST value in the area. Tucked back off a dirt road keeps this gem from being overplayed. Greens, teeboxes, and fairways are in great shape. The blue tees are set back far enough to make it challenging for the advanced golfer, but there are plenty of places to score for the novice. Great landscape, lots of views from elevated tees, and friendly staff. I highly recommend this course.

Had a great experience playing Heather Hills. The course was in terrific shape and the greens were posed good challenges. Not overly difficult, but just a fun course to play. Very picturesque with great views. Definitely will be going back for another round!

Ive been playing this course since it first opened as a 9 hole tough track. It presents all the challenges any level golfer would want, in spite of no sand traps. Always in fine shape!

This has always been my favorite golf course. Beautiful scenery, well-maintained and exceptionally friendly staff. Doesnt hurt that there are no sand traps! :-)

Remains a mostly hidden gem. My favorite course in Metro Detroit. Lots of rolling hills and adventures on the greens.
