Ive been here many times and every time I come I dont want to leave. I am fortunate enough to live just minutes away from this place, so its barely a drive for me which allows me to visit this place many times a week. For the Portage/Kalamazoo area, this is an amazing area to escape and enjoy nature for a bit. Even during their busy hours, due to how large this preserve is youre able to still avoid people if you want. I bring my dog here as its a wonderful place for me to train her with so many distractions, but also because she loves adventuring as much as I do. There are some gorgeous lookout points and the trails are just amazing. While yes, the parking lot is a bit small, rough to get into, and not the best, its fine for me because I come for the nature. During their busy hours Ive had to sometimes park on the street, however, its no real biggy. Overall I absolutely love this place and highly recommend this preserve to anyone wanting to escape into nature for a bit.

Great local land preserve to fulfill your nature needs. Tons of established trails, boardwalks through the marsh area, and a couple overlooks. Hopefully they will not add anymore paved trails through the area as it detracts from the whole philosophy behind preservation of a natural space. This area always has been extremely accessible to most people. I am glad that more people are using the area versus ten years ago, and the area with the trail is small and doesnt effect most of the area available.

Some very nice trails, nice pines, a little elevation. Pretty place to hike. Unfortunately, trails are very poorly marked. Occasional maps show trails with numbered intersections. Sadly, theres not a number or a "you are here" to be found at the intersections. It doesnt help that the "Lookout" trail seems to be everywhere. Your best bet is go often enough that youll figure it out and thus become one of the helpful people who tried to explain the trails to first-timers.

Beautiful Trails - very fortunate to have a resource like this so close to our city. There are miles of trails - be sure to study the map at the entrance before heading in. If you stay on the main, marked trails youre good but be sure that you are comfortable where you are if heading off on one of the many side trails. The good news is that you cant get lost for long, and there are plenty of friendly people to help you out if you do. Enjoy!

Love these nature trails! Just be sure to print out your own map as the one at the beginning of the trails isnt entirely detailed. My friend and I had an interesting time getting out and ended up walking in many circles, but I guarantee that an online map would be beneficial to walkers!

I LOVE Al Sabo. Its a really wonderful place to hike, and even though Ive been many times, I still find areas I havent explored yet. Tend to always see other people there somewhere, but you can at least get to areas that youll find some peace and quiet (and lots of beauty).

Location is great! A variety of trials with different surroundings- you can be on pavement walking through a field or on a skinny dirt path through the thick woods. The trails are labeled but it is very hard to navigate if you get caught in the middle- bring your phone!

I have been here many times, since I live relatively close by. There are a decent variety of trails and only one of them is paved. There is parking at the entrance on Texas, near Roto Kiwan, and there is another entrance farther north on the same road.

Wasnt a mexican restaurant like my friend told me. He lied lol! Literally we dignitively strolled around the grass and literally no meclxican food.lol!! Like, they had no traveler shops around to buy the market.

A great place to hike, run, or mountain bike. All dirt, some sand, lots of tree roots. Hidden trail through the marshes to the back side of Kalamazoo Valley Community College.
