We decided to try out some kayaking and wanted to see Blackwater and this turned out to be a perfect way to do it. Matt was an excellent guide and we saw plenty of birds, and Eagles were definitely visible. He also talked about the area from a historical slant, and the watermen/hunters perspective as well. His family has been in the area for over 300 years, so that extra history as passed down really added to the depth he could offer. He was particularly good with my 10 year old ADHD son, and if you have any concerns, there was no problem at all with pacing. Worth every penny!

Matt is a great guide. He knows all the birds and knows the Harriet Tubman history as well. Hes as local as you can get, his family has been in Dorchester County many generations. He knows his stuff and was generous with his time. Just make sure you get directed to the new location, its not 4303 Bucktown Rd anymore. You could just hire a kayak but youd cheat yourself. Hire Matt. Our two hour tour expanded to include the country store by our choice. We were all impressed. If you like both natural and human history this is a great tour.

This is a rustic place to rent a kayak or a bike and put in at the Blackwater Little River. The staff is helpful and kind and they have life jackets and decent kayaks. Its a little expensive, so be prepared for that. I suggest the half day or full day rental, so you have time to really paddle around Blackwater NWR, which is to the left under the bridge from where you put in.

My husband, my nephew, and I wanted to try kayaking for the first time and went to Blackwater paddle. Kacie was great, she helped us with everything we needed to feel comfortable and have fun. We are hooked! Beautiful views and calm water! Love it and we highly recommend going there! If you are a local...make sure you let them know!

Friendly people, great service, and beautiful Chesapeake scenery! We paddled around the calm water for over an hour and spotted osprey, blue heron, and a nesting pair of bald eagles with their young. Staff were pleasant and helpful, and gave us a locals take on where to get the best crab. Highly recommend!
