?What is Fourth Street Live!? In the heart of Downtown Louisville, and moments away from The University of Louisville, lives a hot spot for travelers to celebrate when they are in town for events, a "hodge-podge" of bars that vary to cater to a larger target audience, and a place for the anyone of any age to visit and mingle with people from all areas of town. I, personally, have only been to a couple places on this "one-block-street" lined with nightlife like Sullys (permanently closed now), PBR (more of your Southern feel with cowboy boots and ladies dancing on the bars in "assless chaps"), Tengo Sed Cantina (more eclectic bunch that is very college -aged, but upbeat and has quite a bit of energy), Sports & Social Club (What about can go wrong with bowling and drinking?), Howl at the Moon (Where else is there a nearby dueling piano bar?), and finally The Tavern on the 2nd floor of Sports & Social Bar (Where you can find arcade games, brighter lighting, backyard games, billiards, and more). The reason I rate 4th St Live! as a 5 star is because it completely serves its purpose. Its an interactive environment for multiple ages available for booking events at certain locations, live music is free to the public on specific nights (listen to local radio stations to catch the current local events), is in a secure area that is monitored so that families may feel better when their college kids are roaming around Downtown Louisville. You may find yourself potentially celebrating with locals around the holidays; which may encourage you to peek about the rest of the nearby nightlife areas as well (like the Highlands, 8UP, Meta Bar, 3rd St Dive, The Louisville Palace, The Brown Hotel, Actors Theater, and so more). $Pricing$ Some nights, they may charge entrance fees into 4th St Live! based on any known artists that may be performing/ visiting. (Check for flyers around town at coffee shops or just keep your ears open. Louisville is ALWAYS buzzing with SOMETHING to do.) For those looking for a laid back evening, I recommend a comfortable $40 bucks to spend on yourself alone for this festive location. The dress attire for women is whatever ladies usually like to wear (heels or a nice outfit with a nice pair of shoes); however, it has been observed that women who tend to dress more like the men dont get special treatment like those who are "dressed to the nines". Gentlemen: I have witnessed men being turned away for not complying with dress code. I can only encourage those who associate themselves as male (specifically individuals preferring to don male attire) to dress without any hat on your person whatsoever, to make sure you are wearing a belt/no undergarments visible to the naked eye, and dress comfortably while wearing neutral tone colors. For those "males" who expect a touch more of themselves regarding "their style", a nice shirt with with dark wash jeans may be a safe default for this scene. Now, dont just take my word for it! Try out out yourself to see if the shoe fits! Enjoy!

HORRIBLE PLACE!!! Went there on a Saturday night had a reservation for four at Gordon Biersch. BUT I WAS BARED FROM ENTRY because I look under 21 even though Im a grown man in my late 20s! All I was going to do was walk through the this place to get to the restaurant where we already had a reservation, but youd swear I was a North Korean spy trying to sneaking to the Oak Ridge Laboratory in Tennessee! Had to cancel our reservation at Gordon Biersch which ironically NEVER has given me any trouble even though its a pub /micro brewery! DEFINITELY NOT A FAMILY FRIENDLY PLACE!!! If you plan on bringing your kids here and they look like teenagers or you or someone else in your party looks like a teenager, prepare to get discriminated against like a person of color during Jim Crow! THE EXPERIENCE WAS HORRIBLE AD I WILL NEVER NEVER GO BACK HERE AGAIN. Which is a shame to any bushiness located here. T.G.I. Fridays might as well axe their kids menu and coloring books because NO person under 21 would probably not be be able to come. If you are visiting Downtown Louisville I recommend The Old Spaghetti Factory, Joes Crab Shack or any place on Main Street over this PREJUDICE HELL! But my case is not the first. When this place originally opened as Fourth Street Live it had a very strict dress code to keep out the "riffraff". Security would actually turn people away if they were not properly dressed (Just as I was for LOOKING under age!). I remember one of the rule was "No backwards hats". This ended up inadvertently keeping many young black males from entry so the practice was doped after the city was accused of racial discrimination. NOW THEY PRACTICE AGE DISCRIMINATION AND CARD ANYONE WHO DOESNT HAVE GRAY HAIR!

This place is hit or miss depending on your age and personal interest on what kind of scene you want to enjoy. There is a wide range of people from all different ages, social classes, personal styles. It has great potential and could be a world class spot for entertainment. But its going downhill. Its so popular of a bar scene that everyone coming to Louisville, as well as people who live in the outside counties all come here. Every 21 year old birthday party, bachelor and Bachelorette party, all the way to your lower class drunks and ignorant people just coming out to find a hookup. It is pretty sloppy, and Ive seen too many drunk drivers downtown leaving the bars. I work at a close hotel and we are always getting guests who come back asking for better places to go saying that 4th street is lame, boring, or just dirty. Which is such a let down because it has a great potential to be such an awesome place. THE TAVERN is a great social place to have a few drinks and play some games. SPORTS & SOCIAL CLUB is a great place to come and watch the big match on any of the huge televisions. Theyre always having some fun games or events going on as well. So I rate this venue a solid 3 stars because it does have some good attractions and hosts some great musicians and events. They are steadily making changes and it is getting nicer and nicer. But if you are a mature adult wanting a good time with other responsible people and not much crazy unnecessary drama, then this is not where you want to go to enjoy your evening.

Cool area for out of town guests. It used to be more dedicated to bars and nightlife but recently things have changed to unique and/or local restaurants. Guy Fieri opened his first Smokehouse here on September 10th, 2016. A couple of the other local restaurants include Birracibo (Italian), The Sports & Social Club (voted one of the 29 best Sports Bars in the Known Universe by ESPN Magazine in 2011) and Bourbon Raw. There are other local restaurants opening soon as well. Then there are some national restaurants such as Hard Rock Cafe Louisville and Gordon Biersch. One of my favorites Brazeiros Churrascaria is not technically local but also only has one other location in Knoxville, TN. It is a Brazilian steakhouse. The street is shutdown to traffic for the couple blocks downtown that make up 4th Street Live! and there are lots of live events during the day and night. Some of the previous events include the Bellator Fighting Championship (This was the final Bellator Fighting event of that season and was televised live on Fox Sports), Vault in the Ville (yearly pole vaulting event in the streets of Louisville), Boxing Events ( Evander Holyfields the Real Deal Boxing sparring event with a ring setup in the middle of 4th Street Live!) and lots of other cool events. There are also a ton of concerts setup on 4th Street, which sometimes are free and sometimes charge a cover. If you are visiting Louisville 4th Street Live! is a safe bet in terms of dinning and entertainment.
