The zoo itself is great and we love it. Not too big lots of shade, bathrooms could be better though. Great for small kids with a playground and superb gardens. We also love the day camps they offer. The rest of this review is about the daycamps: Unfortunately despite being polite and nice, to them, they lack the propper training in customer service and in dealing with problems. Some of he people there help work on the parks and rec website specifically Tammy Jones. On several occasions the system they use to book classes came up with an error that said that the age range for the kids was wrong - this happened in 2014 and now in 2017 - even though it was correct - for example I tried enrolling my daughter in zoo camp when she was 9, and the class was for 8 - 12 yr olds. I reported it and she was extremely condescending, talking to me as if I had never used a website and telling me I had not entered the birthdays. I told her many times that I had, but she insisted that I was at fault. The propper response would have been to say : "I am sorry you having these problems mam and I will check in to see if nothing is wrong with our system". In the meantime is there any way I can help you register manually?". Instead she said "well you did not enter the birthdays and you even have the kids in there twice you really should not do that." When I told her that I had entered them twice because I could not see birthdays after saving, and that I wanted to be sure - she said that was not true. Even after sending her screen shots it was all my fault. Then she hung up. I called back and asked her what to do if it happens again - she said it wont - when I pressed her she became even more hostile. She has hung up on me 3 times now in 4 years and i was being calm, not shouting, or being rude myself. Noone knows why she is unable to deal with problems, frustrated customers, and why she consistently is condescending or unable to reply to questions (like when I asked her whom to contact if it happens again, she hung up) - but it has happened so many times now, that I just dread talking with her. Some of the other parents are having the same problem and we hope she retires soon....or that they fix the parks and rec site to work properly soon! The other thign we find SO frustrating at the zoo is that they seem to have no concern for the environment. Every season we have to photocopy all our registration forms, r re-fill them out (10-15 sheets) and hand them in AGAIN - they apparently do nto KEEP FILES but throw everything out and start again every school year and every summer. They say it is the accrediting agency that requires paper, but there is NO ACCREDITING AGENCY listed - confusely the Discovery Center does not require this. Some one there is very backward and does not know about Pdfs....keeping files...they could have a from asking "has any of your info changed"....apart form that we still love the zoo - the animals and program - but on the admin side the place seems to be a disaster.

The Sunset Zoo is very beautiful lots of trees and plants and flowers. There are many opportunities to interact with the animals which I wasnt expecting! There are a smaller amount of animals than I am used, because I am from Omaha, Nebraska and we have one of the largest zoos in the nation(the Henry Doorly Zoo). I was pleasantly surprised though. The small clawed otters were very sweet and fun to watch. The kookaburra and the new bob cat kitten Millie were my personal favorites. We were able to walk around for close to three hours and we werent bored at all. You are able to get very close to the kangaroos as well as the prairie dogs. They have quite a few animals that we do not have at the Henry Doorly Zoo,red pandas, a hyena, maned wolves and chimpanzees!!! It was very quiet and not a lot of people around, we went on a Thursday afternoon. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at the Sunset Zoo! It was clean and the staff was friendly. I highly recommend going to this zoo!

Wonderful experience for all! After reading some reviews I feel the need to state "Do not go here if you want the animals tortured for your viewing pleasure"! This is a beautiful small zoo that allows the visitor to have a better connection with the animals rather than a circus side show some like to see. The atmosphere is relaxed and the animals feel relaxed, which makes for a higher quality experience. Staff are caring for the animals and love to take a minute to answer questions about the various animals. Peacocks are allowed to roam so children can see them all over and love to discover where they are at different points in the day. Butterflies are abundant in season and plants are added all over to give a more natural environment.

04/23/2016 My boyfriend and i drove by a sign about the Sunset Zoo & decided to visit. I am an animal lover and have been to several zoos in the surrounding states. The encounter we had with three of the Chimpanzees that live at the zoo were so sweet and memorable, the pictures we were able to get are great. Peacocks roaming the grounds & were also great for photos. Might be fairly small, but impressive. Monkeys & Tigers, flamingos & kangaroos.. Definitely a great place to spend a few hours! {Very affordable $5/adults- awesome}

Not too many things to do in Manhattan and yet they have a zoo. A small, but one with a very personal setting. We felt like we had the place to ourselves. All the animals were out - really no where else to go. The price at $5 bucks a head was great - coming from Columbus, Ohio - were we currently have the No.1 zoo in the nation and enter fee reflects that. Really enjoyed this little gem. Loved the peacocks just strutting around the place. Perfect for kids. Even bought some honey made by the resident bees.

The Sunset Zoo is a really nice small zoo. There arent a ton of animals to see, but the zoo itself is beautiful to just walk. I spent about 2 hours there just walking, looking at the animals and enjoying myself (great views of Manhattan). I would recommend this for anyone who wants something to do for a nice afternoon out. It wont consume your day but you have the option of going through at your own pace. The admission is very reasonable at only $4 for an adult ticket.

We were driving through Manhattan on our way back from a day trip to Nebraska, saw the sign for the zoo, and decided to stop in. Admission is $5, there are some pretty impressive animals, and you can see the whole zoo in about two hours. Definitely worth your time!

This zoo is pretty great, $5 to get in, a good amount of animals, and something that pleases me is most of the animals have a decent sized space to live in. Theres a nice big play scape/ area and the price is just unbeatable.
