Let me get one thing straight, the atmosphere at this theater is perfect. Its a classic theater, and boy do I miss the days when all theaters were like this and you could watch a nice silent movie for only a nickel. Although it costs a bit more than a nickel now, it is still a much better deal than those robber barons in the big city of Dubuque. You can watch the most current movies and boy did the concessions get me excited! Fresh popped popcorn, a wide selection of candy, and my favorite: dippin dots. However I did have one complaint. My SPAGHETTI was far too buttery and salty! At first I was excited that they served it in a classic popcorn bucket, but I soon realized they didnt give me a fork! My SPAGHETTI quickly became cold and nothing is worse than man handling cold SPAGHETTI! All in all a great restaurant with a neat concept, but their SPAGHETABILITY is severely lacking. Overall I give it 5 and 13/16 starfish.

This is a local business and we like to support locals. This theatre is the longest running theatre showing motion pictures in the country. It has been revitalized to as much of its original grandeur as possible. The seating and sound system are top notch and just setting in the theatre takes one back to a simpler time when life was slower and sweeter. This theatre is nostalgic and melancholy and the decorations are from another century that was part of Washington county and Iowas heritage. It just feels good! Management is friendly, and who doesnt love movie popcorn!!

Best home theatre hands down. Its a single original theatre with great sound quaility. Unlike the boxy new multi theaters in Iowa City that have terrible audio that is usually turns up way too loud . This theaters audio is always on par and you cant not love the theaters beautiful original charm.

Much more than I expected from "the oldest continuously running movie theater." Ambience is nice. From time to time the front staff have been a little grouchy, but its easy to overlook, considering they always have great, current films playing here.

I love old theaters, especially this one! Also, they have a Guinness Book of World Records Record for the oldest operational theater! Now I guess it can be a tourist attraction if you ever happen to go through Washington, Iowa.

Definitely worth a trip. Beautiful renovated theater. One of the most comfortable and spacious facilities for movie watching. It is the oldest continually operating movie theater in the world according to Guinness records.

State Theatre in Washingtion Iowa is the oldest movie theatre in the WORLD! It has been completely remodeled and it is beautiful inside and out. Reasonable prices as far as quanity/value go. They offer 2D or 3D movies.
