Visited Hoyt Sherman Place for the first time this week. Great old theater with good sound. Not a bad seat in the house, really. About a 20 minute walk from the trendy downtown restaurants like Fongs Pizza. From what I saw there was only beer and wine sold there for shows. Will call window and box office are on the lower level on the east side of the building. There is parking on both east and west side of the building. Westayed out in Urbandale and an Uber was about $12 on a Sunday night. After the show was over though rates surged to double the regular rate, which may be typical for Sunday events due to the number of drivers available.

My late husband and I were married at Hoyt Sherman Place on July 15, 1989. As natives of Des Moines, and because I had attended several functions at Hoyt Sherman, I just KNEW that was the place for our wedding! Because of the beautiful decor, we didnt have flowers! I simply had a local florist provide greenery for the area where we got married. I lost my husband in July of 1999, but the memories and pictures of our wedding will always remain in my mind and in my heart! Susan (and Frank) Wolf

I ♡ the beautiful building, the paintings on display, the auditorium (beautiful sound). As well as the outside of the building and the lawn. The only negative is the old sits in the auditorium are not very comfortable. Unfortunately they will probably not be replaced.

A really cool older style theater. They definitely get a cool variety of shows to come through here, and we always enjoy coming to see them. The seats can bea little crowded at times, but its worth it for the quality of entertainment and uniqueness of venue!

Quiet, comfortable, clean room. The only negative is, the room should be ready to use. We werent observant enough to notice that the shower head should point toward the tub (or did someone play a joke?). Also, set the stupid clock radio to the correct time.

Beautiful and intimate setting for any type of performance. I have seen live music, comedy, and spoken word here. Acoustics are great. Do your best to get floor tickets. Sometimes difficult to see the stage from balcony seats.

A beautiful, well preserved house. A must see. Self guided tours. 19th century art collection. Built by Hoyt Sherman, brother of William T, civil war general. Home of Des Moines Womens Club.

Beautiful theater and a great place to see Ben Folds play piano! My only gripe was the lack of Mens restrooms. All I found was a single stall that always had a very long line.

Beautiful theater! They book a wide variety of shows so theres always something different to see. Downside is lack of parking but thats really out of their hands.

Very small seats and rows. No leg room and Im 55". Very hot, no good air flow. Was not comfortable, I left during intermission.
