i do not recommend this venue, and ive been to pretty much every concert venue in atlanta at this point. I went for a Red Fang concert and had no complaints about the bands, but I ended up leaving before they were even on stage. People were moshing in front of us, and there were several rude people who were actually pushing people into the mosh pit who didnt want to be in it, overall just being assholes. Theres no security or safety precautions to prevent things like that from happening. The structural integrity of the building was pretty scary honestly, and I was afraid a beam would fall down from the ceiling with one strong jump from the crowd. The bartenders were a bit rude as well. There were several people in the actual concert room who I swear were homeless, they smelled like rotting garbage, and the lack of air flow in the room did not help at all in that aspect. Im surprised they were let in at all smelling so badly. Overall I left before Red Fang was even not the stage because the people were rowdy, rude, and overall not courteous at all towards other people there, and no security there to keep things in line. Ive been to plenty of concerts, and theres an unspoken rule about mosh pits and helping people around you if they fall or do not want to be involved in the pit, Ive even lost my wallet at the Tabernacle and had it returned to me by the end of the night; the people here were totally ignorant to all the concert etiquette rules that Ive learned over the years. The masquerade, with all of its issues, at least has security to watch over the floor. Overall, I would definitely skip out on this place and wait until the bands come back to a different venue. Do not recommend.

I started going to MJQ 5 years ago and loved it. Even then, people who had been going there before me said it was dying. For the last year or so, I have tried to have faith in a club where I have had such good nights out, but I have come to realize that MJQ, which was a different kind of club where you could dance with good, laidback people to good, dance-able music, is no more. The bartenders have always sucked. They are inattentive and rude, but I put up with them because the drinks were cheap and the music was good. But even now, drink prices have gone up, and the music sucks because...the DJs suck. Someone needs to tell the DJs that they are not celebrities and that they should listen to the crowd and play music people actually want to hear. Plus, there are now goons acting as body guards or something for the DJs, keeping people away from the front stage (why did they move the DJ booth anyway?). Everyone who works at and runs MJQ should realize that we are in Atlanta, not L.A., not New York. The people who make the club are the people dancing in it, not the DJs who are too busy soaking up their own awesomeness. Maybe it is because MJQ has become more popular lately, with lines around the shack (people, the club is not worth the line), and they feel like they need to be standoffish and rude. Its no longer "all about cool" or a "music lovers paradise." So, if anyone reading this knows of a better place to dance in Atlanta, I want to hear about it. I need a place where the music is good, the atmosphere is laidback, the drinks and cover are cheap, and the service is not rude and condescending to the people they are serving.

Theres nothing quite like going to a concert of a band you dont know at a venue youve never been to. This way the expectations arent high and you wont be disappointed. Case and point: The Generationals at the Drunken Unicorn. A dark, dingy, seedy venue with graffiti on the walls and stickers as far as the eye can see. The acoustics were good and the staff were super friendly (local). Cheap beers kept me there longer than anticipated. Jake was nice enough to hold some tickets at the door for us. For all these reasons, I will be going back. Hopefully to see another unheard of band! Definitely off the beaten path, but those are the ones you want to try!

best music. best place to dance if you want to get all sweaty. dont wear open toed shoes if you are female unless you like crap on your feet. the crowd is starting to dwindled compared to two years ago. everyone ive taken here has loved it unless they like shiny clubs like the former vision. you will not meet ballers here but you might run into an emcee...they make regular appearances.

My first experience here and it was awesome...Granted it is not the most glamarous place to be but the atmosphere and music (real Hip Hop on one side/house music on the other) made up for it! I hear it the only underground club like it in all of Atlanta. I would definitely go again..

mjq, aka mods, jocks, and queers. mostly every night is crowded but for some people thats a plus. its also located close to a kroger to stock up on energy drinks or pregame before going in. always a party, and always full of an enthusiastic crowd!

Visit here when they have their "sloppy seconds" party on the second Saturday of the month and you will have a great time. Drinks are pretty cheap and strong too, but it is a cash only bar.

What is there not to like about MJQ? Good music, nice crowd, people actually dancing. Its always a good time. MJQ has been around for a very long time. It seems to be here to stay.

Funny place to go for clubbing. Theyve got a great deal on Wednesday--cheap PBRs. Dont wear nice shoes--the floor gets really gross.
