Im sorry, I have to reply to this post: "this place is a joke, most of the reviews are put up by people that work their. dont wast your money hear. o and if you are looking for fish go somewhere else. Aquarium Outfitters use A LOT of chemicals to make the fish look good. just buy one and wight a few days it will die. trust me i work their right now." Whoever this person was clearly did not work for Aquarium Outfitters. If they did, they didnt last long. Horrible spelling and penmanship aside, there is simply no truth what-so-ever in anything they posted. Im currently on staff at Aquarium Outfitters and work one day a week or less at the store... for store credit, not a paycheck. No one else who has posted a review is working, nor have they ever worked, at the store ...or at least not since Ive been a customer since 2006. Please take reviews with no name posted on them for what they are... trolling propaganda. My experiences as a customer have always been positive. Most of the employees are hobbyists who really care about the life of your fish as a pet and they are not there to just sell fish. No "chemicals" are used at the store outside of normal products (calcium, Ph buffers, coral food, nitrate remover, etc.), feel free to ask in more detail what is added to which systems and why if you want to know more. Theres at least 1 fish that I know of that has been in the store for almost 2 years... so dont hold your breath if youre tank is properly set up and youre waiting for the fish you bought at AO to die in a "few days"... its simply not going to happen.

I visited for the first time today, and this is a pretty solid fish store. They have an excellent selection of both salt and fresh water fish, and they have an wide variety of supplies including tanks, filters, chemicals, salts, tank decor, plants, food, and any other supplies you could need for an aquarium. The one thing that did upset me was the condition of their betta fish. Ive seen betta fish at Wal-Mart that were in better condition. The fins were horribly torn and they were kept in tiny little bowls. Im a betta owner and to see these beautiful fish in such poor condition (and a grandmother walking out having purchased a fish that was most likely Ill for her grand daughter) just broke my heart. DO NOT BUY BETTA FISH HERE. Fin Alley on Baxter Street has the best quality bettas for a good price. All of the other fish seemed well cared for and the products were decently priced which is why Im not giving it a lower review. I will definitely return for some decor for my new tank.

Visited this store today. They seemed to have a wide selection of animals, although I cant say the store was appealing. Noticed more then a few tanks with many cracks, and was shocked they didnt have water coming through. Noticed one string of tanks with ich, although the other fish looked healthy, and everything seemed free of any other pests. The thing that honestly threw me off was that I drove 30 min to this shop, and was told I was unable to use the rest room. With the local "Walgreens" as the suggestion, I was not willing to return. One man was willing to bring me to their restroom, but was instructed otherwise by the women in this store. I was interested in more information on a few fish that would work with my tank, and maybe finding a shop for RO salt water. With a very nice shop the same distance just off Pleasant Hill, and an owner more then happy to accommodate any customer, Aquarium Outfitters will not be my fish store.

The shop itself leaves something to be desired... every time I have purchased fish from this location my tank has gotten a bacterial infection, if you get any freshwater fish from here make sure you do not mix your water and theirs and also treat with mela-fix whenever you add fish. Their freshwater selection is not stellar. If you are looking for South American fish go to Petland in Athens. Every now and then they have nice freshwater fish. Their African Cichlid selection is very nice. If you are looking for large African Cichlids this is definitely the place in Athens to get them. Their selection of decorative rocks is pretty good. I have had great customer service from "Justin" in the store. He is a great guy who is very knowledgable and has always helped me a lot. The store is worth the visit, but dont expect to be blown away.

Aquarium Outfitters is amazing. They have a wide selection of aquarium supplys and fish that cannot be beat. The staff are extremely nice and very knowledgeable. Whenever I have a question about my tank or what to put in my tank they always have the answer and I am always greeted quickly when I walk in. I will continue to go to Aquarium Outfitters even after I move out of the area due to the great service and amazing selection of rare and unique fish and plants. If youre in the Athens area and you are looking for a place to buy aquarium supplys whether it be a beginner or an expert in the hobby then Aquarium Outfitters is the place to go.

I have purchased all my fish (1 Yellow Tang, 2 Firefish, 2 Clownfish, 3 Banggai Cardinalfish) and all my corals from them and everything has been healthy from day 1 for months now. They have a great coral and fish selection and I feel pretty lucky to have them here in Athens where I live. I cant say Ive ever experienced poor customer service from them unlike what others on here have said. Ive had to get the attention of an employee there a couple of times when they were busy (which is to be expected) but otherwise Ive never felt ignored or had to wait what I felt to be an unreasonable amount of time.

Absolutely the most ridiculous customer service ever! After 20 years of keeping fish, and purchasing not only tanks and supplies, but dozens of fish from these guys, I try to have ONE dead fish replaced and am told its my fault! Apparently, my water isnt up to their standards. Of course, my fish disagree and my test kit disagrees as well. When I asked to speak to the owner, "Oscar" told me to leave or hed call the police. What great guys.... Oh well, Ill do my Koi biz with Wet Pets and will go to Atlanta for my tropicals and cichlids....

The staff are condescending and the prices are very high. On almost all livestock, it is cheaper in Petland or Pet Supplies Plus (especially the latter). Ive shopped there quite a few times but their freshwater stock is almost always diseased, at least the ones Ive bought. Saltwater livestock health was decent. Ive been managing aquaria for years, and I give this store an average value for decent service but low value (bang for buck) on their stocks. Their dry goods are also overpriced, and youre better off buying it online.

I have recently gotten back into being a reefer. I went there for live rock sand and lighting. I was very happy with the staff and selection. Ive been there only 3 times and they know me, even remember my tank setup. Oliver and the rest of the guys and ladys are great. I will soon be buying a 60 gallon rimless tank from them. Im well aware I could buy the stuff I will need online but I would rather support a local business and pay a fraction more. If I have a problem they will help me.
