Before I tell you about my bad situation (that was remedied in a BIG WAY by the General Manager), let my tell you about our stay....which was excellent. We spent 7 days at the Sanibel Harbour Resort and Spa and had a great time for our family of five. My three boys (6,8,10) really loved the swimming pools, and in fact there are 5 of them with hot tubs. We took advantage of their fishing pier many times and my kids caught both sheepsheed and angel fish with live and frozen shrimp, that is available at the bait shop just before you enter the resort. We stayed in a very nice 2 bedroom condo, that features a very spacious screened in porch overlooking the bay with beautiful sunset views of the bay. The condos decor was a tad dark, but that was remedied by opening all the windows and sliding glass doors and letting the light and breeze flow through the condo. At first my wife and I felt a little isolated in the Condo (which is a 3 minute walk to the main hotel) as the focus, services, shops, and activity in the Resort is clearly centered around the main hotel. However, we ended up really enjoying the condo - it was private and quiet; it gave us all the space and amenities we needed for a family of five (washer/dryer, kitchen, dining area, etc). The grounds are remarkably maintained and feature paths, mangroves, flocks of birds - surprisingly well maintained. The service is exactly what you would expect of a 4 star resort - everyone is very attentive and pleasant....and from what Ive seen of the Sanibel/Ft. Myers area, I truly believe that this is the only 4 star resort in the area. However, on the downside, you do pay for this service with $13 Cheesburgers, $8 Drinks, and 4$ coffee. So now for my story - it happens that the company that owns the Sanibel Harbour resort was having their annual meeting during our stay....On our first day the main pool was closed to guests for a Company function (a bit irksome), and then I came to find out that the Kids Club (one of our key criteria for choosing our Vacation Destination) would not be open on the weekend. Since this was one of the selling points to the Resort, I found the General Manager, relayed my frustrations and let him know that I was NOT happy. Immediately, the General Manager apologized and asked me to give him 10 minutes. Ten minutes later, the General Manager found me (on the fishing pier), apologized again, give us 2 free dinners to their Steak House (appetizer, entree, desert) AND they provided a babysitter (again, on the house) for my three kids. The baby sitter was great, the kids had a great time, I had a romantic dinner with my wife, and some much needed "alone time". You cant ask for more than that! It is very rare to see this type of attention to detail and service - I have never written an Internet review for any hotel, restaurant, or anything else....but felt compelled to share my experience at Sanibel Harbour Resort and Spa.

We decided to stay here and bring our boat as a last minute deal. Called the night before to make reservations and told them we would be coming by boat. We were told that it was the same price as parking. (I should have known that was to good to be true.) We arrived to check in and the guy at the dock (VERY NICE AND HELPFUL) told me that they were a separate company and should have reserved a slip. We came by boat only and told him that we notified them at the time we made the reservation. Long story short he figured it out and got us into a different slip. Only three slips available and the condition is fair. We live in the area and have stayed on the water many times at different resorts. (Tween Waters, etc.) I was always directed to the marina to reserve dockage when making a reservation. The staff did upgrade our room which was nice but what a hassle. The rooms are nice and hotel and pool is great. DINNER AT THE COURT SIDE: was not the most pleasurable experience. First the shuttle took us to the wrong place and had to come back and pick us up again. Portions were uneven in size when it comes to the steak. Sides and food were great other than having a 6oz filet that looked more like 3-4oz at best. I asked the waiter about the size of the steak and he got snippy with me. The atmosphere doesnt mirror the pictures advertised. More like an 1980s early 90s club house. I know that Im getting really picky at this point but with all of the aggravation I noticed that every table cloth was wrinkled. (When your going to a resort like this and the menus price range.; I expected more. (TERRIBLE VIEW FOR THE TOP RATED RESTAURANT) POOL SIDE BAR: Probably the driest grumpy bar tender in history. He was not inviting and looked pretty miserable. Went back a second time and there was a different person working and she was very nice. Overall, I would recommend going somewhere else. Most of the staff was very nice, but they have several bad apples. I would recommend Tween Waters for a resort style and if your looking for no frills type place Id go to Matanzas INN before I came back here.

After weeks working hard my wife and I decided to take a short getway. We showed up at the hotel by 11:00pm on Friday and to our suprise, they couldnt find our reservation booked via Expedia. Mind youwe has received an email confirmation saying it was booked and we didnt need to contact the hotel or anything. They were able to give us a room, now completely booked due to Veterans weekend holiday and we were appreciative it was a king bed with water views. As we entered our room we were greeted by the smell of fumes, water liking in the bathroom floor, construction materials and a ladder. We called the front desk and they said they didnt have any other rooms available for the night, then they send a few workers to patch up and clean the best they could, it was midnight by then. Apparently work was supposed to had been completed and never was but they put the room back into inventory. The next morning they moved us to another room. However, this is not the worst, Saturday at 9am we were woken up by loud drilling and hammering. They are undergoing renovations which wewere never made aware of. And same thing on Sunday. Our romantic getaway which was meant to be a chance to sleep late and a relaxing atmosphere was anything but.... We were hoping to seat in the balcony and enjoy the view and read a book which was impossible because of the construction noise. We stayed at Captiva Towers which has very nice water views, room decor was updated, nice bedding, mattress, linens and toilettries. The personnel was courteous and ready to please. It is a shame that we had a bad experience because we only had 2 days to enjoy some R & R and left just as stressed out as we came, feeling we paid Marriot for the pleasure of waking us up early and ruining our stay. We left on Sunday without even staying for brunch as we didnt want to spend more of our hard earned money there.
