We signed up for this from out of state, not knowing what it was. We thought it would be some star viewing basics. Turned out to be a very strange class-room style speech, and then a trip up to the telescope. We had bad luck and total cloud cover, so we basically sat through a class about Star Trek and star units... with no payoff

I absolutely loved visiting this observatory because everyone was friendly and explained what I was seeing in the sky. I genuinely felt welcomed even though I am from the west coast and dropped by for only an hour before going back to my travel companions. I was lucky to have been in the area during their open house.

Public nights are great there. The local astrological society puts on an informative presentation, then weather permitting, gives visitors the opportunity to peek through the historical 20" refracting telescope.

Back in 1979, I was graciously invited to spend the night observing. With my advanced degrees in High Energy Astrophysics. A real blessing !!

Beautiful old observatory. They have regular open house events and theyll even let you look through the telescope.

The telescope is over 100 years old so obviously not state of the art but public night was fun.
