The trails in Hellman are a little harder then they look. Minimal shade, strait dirt and steep hills. The view at the top of mountain is amazing though! You can see LA in all of its glory. The sunset is B-E-A-UUUTIFUL. One mountain has a cool water tower with graffiti all over it which is a dope spot for photo ops if youre down with that. Theres also a Buddhist temple near by thats really nice to look at as well. Worth the hike and sweat for sure! Bike up/down the trail if youre a crazy mutha and youre down for that kinda thing - I see a good amount of locos doing it and they seem to enjoy it. Its also dog friendly! Keep those puppies on a leash and bring them water too. BRING AGUA... and maybe a snack. :)

For some, a good hike is determined by the difficulty of it. For others, it is determined by the scenery and the view. Luckily, for this hike, you get both! The path up can be pretty steep at times meaning youll surely get a leg workout and barely be able to crawl out of bed the next day. At the end of the hike, youll witness a graffitid old water tower and an excellent view of the LA skyline, hills, and some cities nearby. Parking sucks, but who cares, street parking is decent. Since this is a hike, you can use the walk from your car to the start of the hike as a warm up!

Watch when u are coming in ur way out, if is ur first time check u are in the right path. I got lost getting to the right & was a dead end, over all a great experience. Highly recomend it.

Popular and convenient for both dogs, humans and mountain bikers; its a busy trail with plenty of bagged dog crap left behind, both bagged and out. The allowing of mountain bikes on the narrower paths along the ridge makes for dangerous meetings around blind curves; thankfully only a few accidents with everyone okay. Few to no facilities (water fountain?) on premises with trash patrol adequate.

I love going hiking here!! :D It has lots of great trails for a workout! Trails have tons of beautiful wildflowers along the sides of them and they also cover the breathtaking hills! Once you get to the top of the hill there is a great view of the city! :) Only down side is there are only like six parking spaces, but there is also street parking so its not really that big of a deal! :)

I tried it out for the first time and its a great workout if you are looking for a challenging hike. The hills are steep and requires some endurance. It has beautiful views when you reach the hilltops! You can even see the Buddhist temple. The only downside is parking sucks, even if you go early. Its a residential area and requires a permit on most streets.

Great hiking trail. The top is rather steep so its great for a workout, even a leisurely walk will get your hear pumping. I take my dog here at least 2-3 times per week. Many different paths to take. You could spend 15 minutes or hours exploring the trails. Parking is limited though.

If you like outdoor hikes, this is a great place. There is something for all levels here. Parking is tough, though. Its very limited so plan on parking on the street (avoid permit only areas!) And expect to walk in. I suggest early morning hikes to avoid the heat of the day.

Well groomed wide trails for hiking, biking and trail running. Its a very popular area, parking can be challenging, expect to hike an additional 1/2 mile to get to the trail head. Parking at Sycamore Canyon is easier and a 2 mile hike will get you on the same trails.

Cool place to walk your dog and trails can easy or a little difficult; but either way its a nice view at the top. Beware of parking maids! They start giving those tickets as soon as the sun goes down, also PARK IS CLOSED for 2 days after it rains.

Interesting and awesome place. Turnbull canyon is amazing, as a resident or Whittier super lucky to live right next to the entrance of this trail. You can see downtown Los Angeles from here and the mountains that surround us.

Great place to come for a hike. If you have an active dog hellman trail is the place to go! Brought my rat terrier who is very active and is always barking throughout the night and upon completing trail he knocked out in the car.

Fun place to walk and see some wildlife. Beautiful gate and fence made by artist in LA. The park is always closed for 48 hours after rain to minimize human affects on the trails. Get out and walk in this peaceful space.

Google directions to this place is messed up. There is a parking lot at the beginning of the trail but the maps tells you to drive straight to the top which is not possible because its restricted to cars.

Always come here for a relaxing walk or a challenging hike—the trails are diverse and perfect for any level of workout experience However today there was a dead boxer on the trail so it gets 3 stars

Awesome, and beautiful views of the city. Has a trail for all skill levels, I took my kids recently who are just 5 and 4, and although we didnt nearly do the whole thing, it was very fun for them.

Great way to get into shape! The steep hills are challenging the first couple of times, however amazing views make it all well worth it...you can even see Downtown Los Angeles on a clear day.

This is a killer Hike. Its basically straight up the whole way. The plus is that there is a few parking spaces and it seems a bit easier to get a parking compared to turnbull canyon.

Easy short hike great for beginners and others alike and you can bring your dog. There are several different trails that connect making for a more intense hike if you are up for it.
