Dont know what you can say about a historic neighborhood, but a few key things that might help you if youre visiting: theres lots of little trinket shops selling basically the same thing. If youre savvy you can bargain, but things are still really cheap, so its good place to stock up on souvenirs and cute, kitschy gifts. There are authentically Chinese businesses operating, but fair warning, some are still little ethnic enclaves and the menu may not be in English. And asking for an English menu might get you a Look. There are some great restaurants, both fine and casual, including the famous, but not Chinese, Phillipes along the eastern side. Try the beef dip. Delightful. Okay. The big thing- parking sucks. If youre driving, get there 30-45 minutes early to find a place or expect to pay dearly for a lot. And -then- watch out for the weirdly arbitrary parking rules because the Parking Enforcement will pounce the minute you pass the time limit. Save yourself the headache and take the bus or the train in. Chinatown is walking distance from Union Station, and Olvera Street is in between the two. Get two historic sites for one. But dont drive. Seriously. Tiny streets and no parking makes for high blood pressure.

Sadly not as vibrant as it once was. Still fun for a quick visit. Shops with things like paper umbrellas and lucky bamboo. Some Chinese herbal pharmacys, green grocers, kitchen supplies (which is great...I got a bamboo steamer) Some great restaurants here. We had already eaten burritos so gave it a miss. But I miss the ambiance I remember from my childhood. That said there was a festive Santa playing an Erhu...but that was about it.

Lots of great eateries, Phoenix Bakery and all the rest. Anamatronic rides for the little ones, bring dollar bills or lots of quarters. Some of the old time buildings left to marvel at, original gateway still there, stop in at the plum tree inn for the lemon chicken or any of the numerous wonderful dishes. Large servings, always leftovers to take home. Easy parking and easy on/off the freeway. Love it, great for the family.

Old Chinatown is incredibly interesting to me. Its still part of the Chinatown of LA, but the streets and signs feel almost like an outdated theme park section. It honestly makes it seem even more interesting. But Ive noticed a number of shuttered shops, spaces for sale, or businesses that seem out of place. I still highly suggest taking a stroll here to get a sense of the ebb and flow of a city-scape.

Great place for shopping for some random nic-naks, nunchucks, oriental clothing, backpacks and luggage available as well. Some of these vendors or shop owners can be a little rude if you arent use to it.. food isnt so bad.. some of these businesses are running with grade "B" on it. I dont recommend any of the pho places. And beware of the homelessness around the corner of downtown.

The boys thought it was boring. I guess teenagers now days think everything is boring. But it could be due to the fact that we were ther at noon during weekday and half of the stors were closed. The other half was tourist junk. We didnt get the special feel the place had five years ago. Or maby its us getting jaded over the years.

Seems EXCESSIVELY touristy. It didnt help that they were setting up some sort of stage while I was there, with excessively loud music playing off the radio from the speakers they were setting up. This was happening right outside the Hop Sing Tong Association while they were doing some sort of musical performance inside.

Un buen lugar para caminar y comer a un precio bueno, la fuente donde avientas monedas es un must para divertirte con tu familia o persona especial.

Its a nice place to take a stroll and look at Chinese knick knacks. Things are pretty cheap and affordable. Older generations of Chinese still live here but the majority of the Chinese immigrants have moved over to San Gabriel Valley. They usually have a Chinese New Year Parade in Chinatown every year.

This place is lots of fun. There are tons of restaurants to choose from and shops where you can get souclvenirs or cheap clothing. In the summer they do Summer nights with live music, food trucks and other fun activities. I like participating in the food contests.

I always start me Chinatown exploration here as the stores open the earliest on the weekend. Lots of parking in the area, I usually park in a lot just to the east across the street. Explore the Wishing well and fountain and statues. Then head into all the shops.

Historical Culture with great food, treats and fun for all ages. The Year Of The Rooster - Gung Hey Fat Choy and a wonderful Happy New Year Golden Dragon Parade every year. I Love it there and will continue to go as long as I am able... Go METRO!

I love going to Old Chinatown. Although Monterey Park has surpassed old Chinatown in terms of size and variety of goods Chinatown is still more cozy and interesting. Favorite place to visit is Goldstream Village between New high and Broadway.

Wanted to show a friend something different and have some Chinese food. It was Sunday lunchtime and most of the restaurants were closed or closed for renovation. The whole area seemed like it was dying but we did find a good place to eat

This place is a party all Summer with DJs, confetti, shopping, and dining, both at restaurants, and the very Angelino food trucks. Chinatown hosts a fun multicultural Lunar New Year Parade annually also. You should join in the fun.

Muy lindo barrio lastima que a los vendedores de allí no les gusta que tomen fotos a sus comercios.

We love China and the Chinese people. The advantage of a pluralistic culture, is that everyone is represented. So much to do, and so many authentic products. You will save a ton of money on airfare, because it is right here.

Nice architecture throughout. Nice vendors and very cool stuff. You can buy ninja swords with hidden blades and ninja stars if your into that sort of thing. My wife said i wasnt into that sort of thing.

This place has come a long way from what it was a few years ago. Its cleaned up pretty nicely, but hopefully it doesnt lose its roots with all the new trendy restaurants coming in.

It is Chinatown like any other. Most Chinese food is not gluten free so hard to find good safe options here. If you need anything Chinese though you can find it here for sure.
