best place to go hiking and shed some pounds , one of thee best workouts and my favorite place to hike and workout. lots of chicks also in the summer hiking as well. and lots of field trips with lil kids which gets annoying especially if your trying t see the waterfall , cause you must cross small streams and the lil kids just take to damn long to cross which makes me always turn back , very popular place and beautiful . take the trail headed all the way up to hedinger flats. make sure to take lots of water , and take breaks at the four benches youll see on the way up if your starting off as a beginner hiker. watch out for snakes as there are many , and stay on trails. theres lots of wild life out there . also a good place for night hikes and sky gazing , just make sure you have flashlights and an axe and first aid kit , cause you never know what can happen in the night . the bottom trial is good to take a date or for the lazy people not really trying to workout and just want to see the water fall. theres to ponds there one thats easy and safe to reach . the other , well, you pretty much got to go off the grid and rock climb and sadly but true many people have fallen and died this past year there so be careful if you decide to venture up the rocks to the exclusive second pond area . it is very dangerous up there with lots of loose rocks . overall this place is great and im happy its open to the public. another note ,i have seen many shooting stars at my night hikes and on a clear night los angeles looks amazing and you can see as far as palos verdes, longbeach, santamonica, etc... also seen a couple ufos "not aliens" ,but unidentified flying objects, flying in the sky that for sure was not a plane . all during my night hikes.

First of all, I am reviewing the hike that I did rather than the nature center itself. The most popular hike to the waterfall is frankly not worth your time if you are looking for a hike. If you want to walk your dog for an hour or have an under 7 year old child than it might be worth considering. The walk up is pretty much flat and uninspiring. The path and area is very crowded on weekends and detracts from the hike. The waterfall itself is pretty pathetic. It is only 25 or 30 feet high and the pool at the bottom was surrounded by 50 people on a Sunday. If you wanted to take a swim or pictures think again. Its not worth your time. We then hiked up to the campground at the top of the ridgeline. It was a pretty nice view, but the hike was essentially a dirt road, not even a fire road all the way up. While the area is convenient to Pasadena, if you are a serious hiker skip it and head further out where it is a little less traveled.

This is a great place for a short visit with the kids to see a small set of local animals and exhibits for kids. This is also the starting point for great hikes for a range of skill levels. Hike to the falls is a moderate to easy trail of about 3 miles out and back. You can also access the mt. Wilson toll road (trail) for longer hikes including to mt. Wilson approx 13 miles round trip. The falls and stream vary in water flow depending on time of year with a heavier flow in the winter, but even after a dry summer there is water at the falls. In the summer the trails get hot so starting early is recommended. The trails to the falls is crowded on weekends, and during the week you find a steady stream of people getting a quick hike, run or dog walk in. This makes the hike fairly safe for those hiking alone to the falls. The mt. Wilson trail is less busy, especially after you pass henniger flats camp ground.

Wow! This place was a disappointment. First of all, it must have been a beautiful place once upon a time, but not today. I went for the first time and enjoyed walking on rocks in order not get wet and some of the plants there were great, BUT then I started noticing graffiti. I also started noticing a lot of trash. Why disrespect such a beautiful place? Why not pick up your trash and take it with you. Okay, so that was not all my disappointment. I love dogs, but there were way too many dogs without leashes and it made it a little uncomfortable for me. The worst part of the hike, is when we got to the waterfall, some hikers up above purposely or not made rocks fall. One landed on my niece and made a huge bump on her head. She cried and was weary walking back. Oh! did I mention, there were a million people at the waterfall? I am not sure FREE is that great of a deal here.

As rookie hikers, it took us about 1hr and 15 min to make it to the fall. Mind you, the fall is not that enormous, but it is a very nice site. We found parking to be a challenge. There was an overflow parking area but the entrance can be easily passed if you blink. The trail itself was pretty smooth and easy, the last 1/3 mile or so was very rocky - make sure you have good shoes and steady balance. I would give 5 star rating were it not for the boom-boxes on the trail (who does that?). There were times when it felt like I was in a mall (translation: more than one person did this)... it was so noisey! Nonetheless, the scenery was beautiful and we enjoyed the outing.

Im from Houston so this was my first hike. My cousin (a local) recommended I go... its a beautiful and easy hike if you are in relatively good shape... I highly recommend going really early like 7 am when it opens to avoid the heat... 1 thing I will say that is a tad annoying is that people tend to play their music out loud as if they had never heard of headphones before, and because its such a nice place to hike to, it can get a tad crowded at the waterfall. If you can get passed that then this trail is a nice place to take the family or pups for a walk.

If youre a novice hiker like I am, this is a good hike for you. Theres a little bit of difficulty, but its still a fairly straightforward hike. You cross rivers, and see waterfalls... it really feels like youre in the woods. Be prepared for around a 3 hour round trip adventure, and make sure to wear sturdy shoes. On our way back, an ambulance had to be called in because someone slipped on a log and dislocated his knee. I also heard that there are fairly a lot of injuries on this trail. So just be careful, and youll have a really good time. :)

Very awesome place, Highly recommend it. Its filled with plenty of wild life and greenary with an amazing waterfall at the end. Like mentioned before the weekends are a bit crowded but there is a golden moment where it isnt too bad in the afternoon. Even though it was super hot when me and my girlfriend went , there was plenty of shade and when we got closer and closer to the waterfall the cooler and cooler it got so definitely worth going.
